Flower Boy Next Door E3

I think I figured it out –exactly why I love this drama. It was really hard to pinpoint cuz there were so many things about it to love, but now I know for sure what I like the most about it. You feel these character’s emotions very quickly. You get attached to them right away and pretty soon your emotions mirror theirs. Their anguish becomes yours. Their tears make yours flow. In a nutshell, the minute you care about them, they run away with your heart. More surprisingly – you are eternally grateful they did.

YSY is nailing his role as Enrique. He has just the right amount of cute when necessary and can also play serious at the drop of a hat. I am finding so much more to admire about him as an actor now than when he was on Kim tak gu. He is doing everything right in each scene with his expressions and mannerisms to make us feel for his character. I love the way he walks – so bouncy. He is like a super cute hyper chipmunk you could watch all day. I saw some BTS of him and he is so adorable.

When PSY was recording the song from the ost for this drama, I like what she said. “When I sing the song – I have to put in the emotions of the character into the sound so I think the emotions of my character are buried in it (the song).” It’s so true – you can sense the essence of who D is in her tone.

D: “I dont know if I spied cuz i was lonely or if I got lonely cuz I spied.”

Starts from D standing in TJ’s home looking at her home across the way.

E says you woke up ajumma. you can see your home really well huh? 

D: why am I here. 

E:  you fainted ajumma – you need to be checked out. my hyung is a doctor and it’s almost time for him to be home from work. 

D: I will be going.

But he blocks her way and says: ah this ajumma. you didn’t even say thank you so where are you trying to go.

D: thank you very much for a while ago.

she tries to go, but he holds her arm and says help me ajumma. I have to do something really difficult from now so it would be nice if you were with me.

TJ comes in and D stares at him.

E says this is the ajumma living in front of us – she and I became friends.

(that’s news to D cuz she looks surprised)

TJ says-ya how is she an ajumma. He introduces himself. hello – I am Han TJ.  

D has trouble making eye contact so E has to elbow her to speak. 

D: I was about to leave just now.

But E says: this ajumma-  if you heard him introduce himself – you have to introduce yourself. he explains to TJ how she is overly shy.

D has a hard time spitting out her name. I am Go Dokmi.  

E repeats it the same as she did with the stuttering. 

E tells TJ: ajumma is going to eat and then go.

TJ invites her to stay and eat cuz KaeGeum’s spaghetti is the best.

E: now that I think about it you dont know my name either huh ajumma? My name is Enrique. Korean last name Geum.  Enrique Geum. she doesn’t say anything cuz she finally looks at TJ so E says: what is this ajumma. making me feel bad. normally when they hear my name, they say it’s a foreign name. how pretty.  where did you come from? questions pour out. why is there no reaction? he nudges her playfully.

 

TJ is checking her eyes and asks her to look at his eyes. she cant do it so he gets closer to look. she says I am ok. I am really ok. 

E is sitting by her feet like a puppy and tells TJ she isnt ok cuz a while ago her face turned white and she fainted.

TJ: does that happen often?

she doesnt answer so he flashes the light into her eyes again to look.

E tells TJ to do a good job checking her out cuz she is my friend.

The doorbell rings. E says S came. he gets up to go open it.

TJ tells D to stick out her tongue.

 

S comes in with flowers and calls him KaeGeum.

E: KaeGeum? even if it killed you – you wont call me oppa huh?

S: I am so hungry I am going crazy. what about TJ oppa? did he not get off work yet?

she hands over her jacket and bag. he points with his chin where TJ is so she heads over.

TJ is explaining why he needs D to stick out her tongue and asks her to do it.

S goes over and sees how close TJ is with D.

D: no it’s ok.

TJ: dont be like that and just finish it by doing it once.

D: it’s ok.

TJ: just once.

D: no it’s ok.

TJ: say ah.

S throws down her flowers and says- what kind of home owner is so rude -it’s been a year since we saw each other so you should look at the guest’s face just once. what kind of greeting is like this?

E comes over and says S blew up again.

TJ: how are you a guest? you are my dongsang’s friend. he starts to introduce S as KaeGeum’s friend but S finishes by saying in a jealous rude way: I am Yoon S. let’s just say I am kaeGeum’s friend -are you Han TJ’s friend?

E tells S: this is my friend. the person living across from us. the one who met hyung for the first time today. she fainted a while ago so she came to be checked out.

TJ tells D to get checked out cuz fainting is dangerous sign. come to my hospital. (he gives her the name).

S bows to D and apologizes.

E explains to D that S has a bad temper.

D: no it’s ok. I think I had better go. she tries to get up but S says you can’t. if you go now like this these two men will scold/insult me. have dinner before you go. even though my first impression is awful, I am a good person.

D keeps trying to leave saying I didn’t come to eat dinner, but E stops her and pleads: don’t go ajumma. help me. please.

They stand so close to each other it’s almost like a hug.

 

* I just had a deja vu moment. it just dawned on me that PSY and this girl were both in the drama You’ve fallen for me and their characters were not friendly at all on that drama.

Jin remembers watching E catch D as she fainted. DH is stalking him and tries to break her heel on purpose to have an excuse to approach him. She finally does. Dong and W go over to Jin. Dong asks if Jin wants to “hit a bowl of soup” (slang for have a bowl of soup) so W doesnt get it. Dong tries to explain the word “hit” and “eat” rhyme -same thing. do you get it? W doesnt so Jin hits dong’s head and says “this is hitting.” now W understands. dong: that means let’s eat.  

 

DH comes over and asks jin to borrow a phone cuz she lost her phone. dong gives her his to use saying use it as much as you want, but keep the call short. She thanks him and pretends to make a call and says her phone is turned off. Dong says she is having bad luck cuz of her broken heel and lost phone. she says no I am lucky cuz I saved a cat. the cat suddenly ran onto the road so I used by body to stop it and this happened to my heel, but the cat lived. dong says her exterior and her heart is beautiful. how can we help you. She says I just need to fix my boot. they say it will snow later on tonight. Dong: it’s going to snow? the forecast is not correct-they were wrong in the summer too. these days who looks at the forecast. Jin tries to walk away but she keeps falling on him pretending to have lost her balance and hugging him saying sorry when he asks are you ok.

 

D and E are in the kitchen cooking. D keeps looking over at TJ. TJ brought over a vase like S asked for. S says she bought the flowers from the florist near his hospital. the florist unni knew you oppa cuz you went there often to buy flowers.  she asked me this and that about you, so I told her I was your girlfriend. D stops stirring the pasta when she hears that. S: (that I am) the girl who likes these flowers and the girl always receiving them. E looks over at them too so D looks at E. TJ doesnt look at S. E and D look at each other. E tells her to hurry and stir. quickly.

 

DH thanks them for their help. Jin leaves first. dong looks up at the snow and says the forecast was right this time. it’s different from the summer. dong calls out to Jin to go together. She goes in to get her shoes fixed at the cobbler stand.to just fix it simply cuz she is going to throw these away. he gives her slippers to wear for the time being but she asks for something else.

 

The 4 of them start to eat and D looks over at TJ.  

S acts like something is wrong.

E: why? does it not taste good?

S smiles and says it’s really great. kaeGeum’s spaghetti is totally the best. dont go to Spain and open a restaurant here. if you go to Spain, oppa wont see me again.

E says to D: ajumma – if you ate – have some kind of reaction. how is it? is it good?

D starts coughing and drinks all her wine. she nods and says yes.

E smiles.

S says to E: what’s up with calling unni ajumma when she is this young (S was also going to add “and pretty” but decides against it)

S says to D: you are young. normally I am sort of rude. how did you meet kaegeum?

E: we only met a few times.  it probably comes out to 3 types of drama. thriller, pervert, medical. this time I am thinking of going for melo.

that makes D choke and cough. she is about to drink more wine but TJ says at a time like this – drinking water is better. TJ gives her water. That makes her happy so she smiles and E notes that.

S asks D: unni – are you uncomfortable or is it your usual personality. if it’s your usual personality – you are the style that I find stuffy.

TJ puts down his fork and speaks to S in a stern tone cuz he thinks S is being too rude.  from the moment you came in till now – what is up with the way you are speaking. for a year – what were you doing and where.

E: if you are curious you could have met up with her yourself. how can you act like you dont know her for a year. when you know that she came to seoul cuz of you.

S tells E to cut it out.  S says sorry to D.

 

Jin and dong are walking and dong says how he is suspicious (of DH) cuz she was talking about the cat but kept throwing herself on Jin. Jin says she was just hurt and leaning on him so how can you call that throwing herself on him. dong: you wont let me even talk. Jin: where did W go? W waves and says over here. this is where I work. Jin: this is where you got hired? they head inside.

 

Dong says that woman from a while ago- bag, coat, dress, earrings, everything was new items from this season. Jin makes a sarcastic compliment about his ability to guess all that. Dong says a woman who only cares about new items – isnt it strange that she wore shoes that used to be popular a while back. dong thinks she approached them to go after Jin. would she? why though? when I was next to you. that beautiful woman. Jin makes a comment about his ability to judge women. Dong says #402 went somewhere a while ago holding hands with E. what is their relationship. did they spy on each other and lock eyes. (he pretends they were holding binoculars and locked eyes and their hearts raced)  jin says ya- even just imagining – is thinking like that all you can do. before I pack you off and kick you out – stop going around at night. you just do what you have to do well. got that? dong asks what is this sudden hysterics – right before we eat, i might get indigestion. W comes over with a tray full of food and says let’s eat.

 

they are all clearing up. D is going to the kitchen and TJ was in her way so he lets her pass. TJ asks when E goes back. E says 2 or 3 months. it’s not for certain. 

TJ tells S: when kaegeum leaves, you go back too.

S gets upset and cries. S: stop putting me next to kaegeum. we are nothing but friends. nothing is going on between us. Should I really go? should I disappear from your eyes.

D hears that and breaks a plate. E tells her not to touch it cuz she will get  hurt but she keeps picking up the broken pieces. E yells “dont touch it!” She remembers how E asked her for help. I have to do something really difficult from now. it would be nice if you were with me. 

S is still crying. E pulls D up saying softly- get up– you will get hurt.

He asks TJ: hyung you clean it up and talk a lot (with S).

E tells S: dont cry and talk. guys hate crying. he gathered D’s belongings and takes her arm saying let’s go. he leaves with D

 

as they eat, dong tells W not to put the sauce in and just eat cuz if you add that it will be too spicy. Jin asks why W came to korea but used a different word for “you” that W doesnt get so dong explains it means “you.” W says I am going to learn to cook. dong:  Korean cooking is hard. W: I am going to learn all the different kinds of cooking (like international cuisine). I am going to learn Korean cooking here and work too. dong says I am leaving first. Jin says how W is living hard for the sake of his dream. so where are you going out at night to set off what kind of fire. W doesnt get that but Jin tells Dong to pay the check and then go. dong: you are too much. W says let’s dutch pay but Jin says it’s ok dong comes from money and just ran away to find his dream. so he is rich. dong says don’t lie. I will pay but I am going in early in the morning so dont lock the second one.  he called it “belly button” and W says I know that word belly button but doesnt get what it has to do with locks so dong tries to explain it’s to lock twice but says just learn it. dong: I will be going. 

 

E is pulling D along so she pulls away.

E: sorry. you must be cold ajumma. He gives her coat to help her put it on but she does it herself.

He says sorry ajumma. I know why you spied ajumma– you like my hyung don’t you. since when cuz hyung doesn’t know at all.

D: I didnt.

E: it’s correct.

D: it’s not.

E: really?

D: really.

E: that’s good then. The two of them look good together huh.

she looks sad so E says: See you do like him. I ended your unrequited love.

D: I have nothing to end. your unrequited love ended kaegeum shi.

E: that’s not it – my first love ended. My over ten year long first love ended. it’s cold. the two of them have a lot to talk about and I cant go in and interrupt. he walks off shivering. it’s cold.

 

Jin is walking and sees D and E walking by so Jin hides his face. when they pass by he watches them

 

E turns and faces her. E: ajumma – wanna have a drink. your unrequited love ended and my first love ended so having one drink is perfect.

she looks away looking sad so he says cheer up ajumma. whether it’s unrequited love or first love there are memories of being happy. let’s talk like this and let it fly away.

she walks by him as he goes on that he feels -right now I feel lighter -free- cool.  

So she thinks to herself- you are lying.

E admits: yes that is a lie. I am not totally ok.

she is shocked he read her mind so she turns to look at him. She thinks in her head: you can hear this too.

E runs over and hops around asking: ajumma – let’s go on a farewell trip. I dont have much free time and dont want to be stuck in a room. isnt it a great idea? it’s cold. ajumma give me your phone. hurry. he starts to go through her pockets till she gets it out and he takes it. he starts to type and says there are things I did wrong so I am paying for the trip. you dont prepare anything at all.  got it? tm right here at 9am. ok? he hands back her phone.

D: I cant.  

E: what? he takes back her phone and starts to type.

He shows her a photo of a place called “tha-kun village” which sounds like “village at the end of the earth ” so he says “if I go to this village alone now in this mood -what will you do if I end it for good.  

His words about ending it triggers a memory and she has a flashback to standing on the edge of a rooftop about to commit suicide by jumping.

D: how can you talk about something like that so easily?

E: that’s why. let’s go together. I will call tm at 9am. take your phone and go inside. got it? I’ll be going. (he spoke banmal)

 

Jin heard all that and pretends to be taking out the trash. after E leaves, Jin watches D go in and runs in after her. he waits with her for the elevator. she is in a daze and doesnt notice him at all. She gets on and so does he. he pressed their floor. D gets a call and notices Jin and gets startled. she says sorry. He says I should have made a loud sound. answer it.

 

DH was calling D. DH: isnt this D’s phone. D: it is. DH: I had something to ask. how much is your down payment for the officetel you are living in now. D: it’s not me I don’t live there. I’m in the elevator so this call will be cut off.

 

DH tries to say I saw you go in there a while ago when she gets cut off. she cant  believe she was hung up on. her friend asks have you been rejected by D. they all laugh.  

 

the elevator door opens and they don’t get out so the door closes. Jin catches it in time with his hand and tells her to get out first. She thanks him and goes out and into her home

 

Dong is taking a drunk girl out of a club and says wake up unni. I will take you home. Just trust me. let’s go. it’s snowing out.

 

Jin stares at his illustration of D and says how shocked D must have been. someone who hasnt stepped out of her home all her life.  What is up with E anyway.

 

Guard asks why the woman is doing this -making fliers for #403 (W). she says cuz W cant speak our language well and asks the guard to put up the fliers where it can be seen well. the flier is about the cooking class and he wondered why she put her picture on it.

 

From her home, D watches TJ and S talking in his living room and remembers how E said his first love ended- his over ten year first love ended.

 

E is playing a computer game and crying at a computer room.

 

During these scenes, the song lyrics are: I am still nervous about you – your truthfulness – the way you speak -I want to forget…. I want to believe it was a dream one night… when it becomes dark at night, I am sad… so it can be erased like it’s black.  is this love? is this greed? even if I throw it all way like it’s black…if your heart was like mine – it cant be done. I get afraid… 

 

D sees E going home and says he cant go in now. S had pulled on TJ’s arm and is hugging him. D looks away like her heart is breaking along with E’s.

 

E gets off the elevator saying it’s cold. He is about to go in.

 

D watches TJ break away from the hug and walk off. D wonders where E is.

 

E is standing in the hall. He remembers his conversation with S that night. E:I should stop huh? S: I am sorry. E: love is not an assigned seat on a plane. just cuz I bought my ticket first you cant say that is my seat. also I really hate the words I am sorry. did you forget?

 

D watches as TJ is walking S out. she sees that E came home and says he must be cold. E is sitting huddled on the sofa.

 

D types: people who think they can grab the hand of happiness when it’s extended to them-how happy they must be. that girl gets nervous if she is too happy. to that girl – happiness is like playing with (soap) bubbles when she was young.  the moment you touch all those rainbow lit bubbles floating over  – they pop. In front of happiness -before she reaches out her hand – she gives up. (meaning she doesnt even try and just gives up like with TJ)

 

Next morning  D’s milk gets delivered. someone comes over to put a post it note on it. she left one too. thank you for the delivery. i read it well every day.  

 

E and D are outside. E: ajumma ajumma – we have to go on a winter trip. let’s go now. 

D looks right at him and says -We don’t have that kind of relationship to go on trips together–more than that we are not close enough for you to call me ajumma. (she yells) we are not anything to each other. she opens her eyes and he is gone.

 

D wakes up and says What kind of dream is like this.

 

She goes over and turns on the stove and gets her milk. She puts the post it with the others. She heats up her milk. She gets a text from E – 9am thakun village.  She is surprised and burns her finger. She goes and tries various ideas to text  “cuz I am sick -something urgent came up – I don’t want to go.” She doesn’t know what to send.

 

The doorbell rings so Jin wakes up dong to go get the door. dong: if you were up you should go out – what is this so early in the morning. dong opens the door. who are you? The man says Jin’s name and asks you are him right? dong: that person does live here but why?  the man said the owner said to move out. jin yells at dong to close the door. lock the door. jin ran over and locked the door. Jin checks his phone. dong asks what is going on. T Jin says it’s big trouble. it’s rent day and there is nothing in his account. did you spend that money already? dong: did I use it? it’s your account. also why all this trouble cuz of one late rent. would they really kick you out. Jin: he would really kick me out cuz that was the condition for my contract.  back when Jin got his place. the deal was no down payment and he still gets to rent (which is unheard of in Korea). just one thing – if the rent is late he gets kicked out right away.  Jin agreed to that. the man he is renting from didnt show his face and covered it up. dong: does that make sense? you didnt know his face or phone number but you signed a contract. jin says I did the contract cuz the rent was cheap. these days where is a $350 rent. I have $230 so I just need to come up with $120. do you have any money.  dong says no. jin: you do have money cuz you go around all night playing you only son (of a wealthy man) so Dong says -stop saying that -I’m not. Jin: nevermind if you arent.  

 

E is packing for his trip and TJ comes in and stands there looking at him. E gets a text from D. E asks TJ for the car keys and goes through his pockets till he gets it then runs out.

 

D texted: my grandmother is sick so I have to go. Have a good trip. she hears a commotion outside.

 

Jin is explaining to the men the exact time he signed the contract and stamped his seal – at 10am. so I still have two hours left. the guy says we have to work for the amount we were paid. he tries to get to the locks to change it but dong and Jin block him. dong tries to offer breakfast. normally when you move the movers eat black bean noodles so how about that – what kind do you want to eat. Jin asks dong how he intends to pay for the noodles. dong; the person moving has to pay. W calls out and asks what is up. he walks over to them.

 

E is waiting for the elevator when the guard comes over. E rides up with the guard and presses 4th floor. E asks which floor are you going. Guard says I am going there too. trouble broke out. which room are you going to on the 4th floor? E: 402. guard asks why. E: to meet my friend. guard: friend? the young lady in 402 is your friend? the guard’s spittle sprays E so he has to turn away.

 

dong asks are you really going to kick us out cuz the rent was late a day? the man says the contract said that.  W says it’s cold outside. the man asks why take it out on us. just pay the rent on time then. dong says to jin: this is embarrassing. the people in the building will all come out. how much are you lacking? Jin:$120.  Dong takes off his shoe and gives Jin $50 out of it. Jin: look at this – I knew you would have it. what is this – is this all? dong nods yes. Jin: are you kidding? I said $120. take off the other shoe. dong: I dont have it. Jin doesnt believe it so dong takes off his other shoe and shakes it – I dont have it.  

 

D listens from her door and says they really are getting kicked out.

 

the man tries to get to the locks but jin says I have 2 hrs left. W asks should I lend you money? dong: yes. W: you have to pay it back. dong: already? W: you have to pay it back. dong: you have to give the money (first). W says but I only have $50.  dong: it’s ok – thank you. it’s $100 now.

 

D counts the money she has and it’s exactly $20. you can hear Jin asking-is this really all you have. dong: what is that – we each paid $50.   Jin: you each paid $50 but you dont have $20? are you a bum? dong: (for) someone who doesnt have $20 – who are you calling a bum? dong asks the man to just overlook the missing 20 but the man is not going for it.  guard comes over and tells the men to hurry and do their job. jin sees E and asks why did you come here again? the guard thinks Jin was talking to him so he says I dont know – the owner told me to open the door.  I have to do as ordered.  the woman comes out asking why it’s so loud out here these days. Guard says I am sorry – I will take care of this well. E tries to walk by, but cant find a space to walk through.  Jin says to the guard- let’s be exact. this is against the law cuz my time isnt up yet. guard says I dont know – I am just doing as ordered.

The door opens and D gives 20. Dong says money and goes over and takes it from her thanking her. dong runs out to make the deposit and tells Jin to keep watch here. D closes her door. Jin knocks and says I will pay you back as soon as possible. E knocks and says I am here ajumma. let’s hurry and go. There is no time. I came ajumma – hurry and come out. there is no time. hurry.

 

DH comes over with her friends. the realtor says when a room opens up around here you have to grab it right away. the friends cant believe D lives here. DH wants to sign the contract to move in. he says come to the office. the friend laughs and says are you going to get a loan again? DH yells at her friends not to copy her fashion. it’s embarrassing. they yell we bought it from your website. she makes a fuss even when we buy it from her. DH says the building is nice.

 

*I dont get why DH is moving here – just for one guy?  

 

D grabs her coat saying “what is up with him.” she hears E knocking and calling out ajumma. D: grandmother. I am getting punished for lying.

 

Jin tells the men he just got the text that the money was deposited. so if you take one step closer i will report you for breaking the law. then he looks at E and says:  I could really report to the police people who loiter outside other’s homes.  E keeps knocking and saying ajumma. guard looks at the text and says it’s done. guard tells the men the money went thru. woman goes back in. Jin tells W to go back home. get that money from dong.  E: ajumma – Let’s go. She comes out and he says you came out. why are you so late. let’s see- you dressed warmly. let’s go. he pulls her out and takes her away. E says to Jin “hyung-fighting- Cheer up.” E and D leave

 

D is taken to TJ’s car. She mutters where did such a guy who enjoys everything show up (in my life), but E cant hear her so he asks what did you say. D: no nothing. he tells her to type in her grandma’s address into the navigation. She says just drop me off at the terminal and I can go alone but he says grandma is sick so is this the time to take your time. it’s ok just type in the address.

 

Suddenly Jin takes off running after them and chases the car. He yells “stop. I said stop.” E stops the car and they look back at Jin in surprise.

Jin is talking about D and says: I was first – I found out about her first (cuz Jin got interested in her first)

 

Dong wonders if E and their next door neighbor girl are dating – did something happen between E and “utility bill” (he is saying it like a nickname cuz she saves on utilities). Jin: shut your mouth.

 

E: like you saw the beach for the first time after 500 yrs- what kind of reaction is that.

 

D: Do you want to go see the beach one more time.

 

E models those baggy ajumma pants in the doorway for D and says “you smiled -you smiled” cuz D couldnt help it cuz he looked so funny.

 

DH says to Jin: Don’t you remember me. I dont know what meaning this has – yesterday and today.

 

D says to E: I have a favor to ask– when we go back to seoul – will you act like you dont know me?
