That Winter, The Wind Blows E9

I am a sucker for the written word. When there is a scene in movies or dramas where the lead characters write and exchange letters to each other, I fall pretty hard for the story. I bet when Young got that letter from Soo, it was her very first. It wasn’t just his kind gesture of tying that string to that wind chime alone that moved her so much. The very fact that he took the time and had the consideration to write out that imperfect note in Braille is going to mean something later on. It’s going to be tangible proof of his love. Forget the wind chime sound that is supposed to remind her of him after he is gone, it’s going to be that slip of paper. Each word in Braille is going to ring louder in her heart than any wind chime ever could.

I don’t think I have ever deliberately sought out a sad melodrama like this before. After watching that last scene, there is this dull ache in my heart. Knowing what kind of tragedy will unfold in the coming weeks sort of scares me. Is this the price we pay for falling in love with stories like this? Tears flowing before the rest of our emotions can catch up to our hearts, empathy washing over us as we see these characters struggling to stay together, and realizing that despite all that there still lies some remote part of you that wishes this love story continues and lasts for as long as it can. As much as we enjoyed the prelude to all that angst, somewhere down the line we get to revel in their joy of reconciliation right?

written before it aired: I could watch these two roll around in the snow forever. Now that I know their emotions are invested in this relationship, it’s time for the scam to come unraveled in the next few episodes. Young needs to know the truth so she can face it head on and deal with it so that she can allow Soo to make this up to her. You just know he won’t let her walk out of his life without a fight. He will prove that underneath all those lies were some basis of truth. I don’t know how long it will take for her to come around, but she will realize his words may have been false, but his feelings for her are genuine. If she digs deep enough within herself, she will realize she knew he couldn’t be her real brother from the start, but didn’t want to believe it cuz she needed this kind of happiness in her life for a change. If you think about it – balancing out the deceit with the love he showed, it’s not that bad of a trade off. That’s easy for me to say – pretty sure she won’t see it that way though. Compound that problem with the fact that her real brother is dead and you are going to have one woman really struggling with forgiveness. Her heart and her conscience are going to battle it out and no one knows which is going to come out the victor. Let’s just hope Soo gave her enough love and great memories to carry her through this dark time of accepting the fact that she may have fallen in love with a scam artist.  Soo is going to have to come up with an inventive way of showing penance that is both efficient and genuinely remorseful. I have every faith that he can pull it off cuz he has two things going for him – the determination and resourcefulness of a man in love.

I was so caught up by the main couple, I totally forgot that Kim Bum is on this drama and I didnt take any screencaps of him till now. shame on me. he was the reason I started this drama too.

She really did dodge his lips like she saw him coming. Glad he finally got to land a kiss – too bad it wasn’t where he had been aiming this whole time.

starts from Soo running in and going to her room first then his. he realizes the pill is gone and goes downstairs calling out for her. she drops the glass and it shatters. he runs to the kitchen and sees her slumped over the table. the pill bottle is empty. she looks at him and says who is it. he says it’s me oppa. what about the pill. she holds it close to her chest and says sorry oppa for not keeping the promise but I must eat this medicine. he cautiously goes over and asks her to give the pill to him. she says it’s hurts – I have to take it. I cant endure it. he says ok take it. I will give the pill to you. give me the pill for now. she asks for water cuz I am so thirsty. she lets go of the pill and he sees it as he pours the water. he knocks the pill out of the way as he gives her the water. he says the pill fell. I will pick it up. she hears him spilling out the contents. he gives her the empty pill and tells her to take it. there is a bell sound so he goes over to the intercom and it’s sora.

Young squeezes the empty pill case.

soo tells sora to go and stay near the house and I will go out. he calls mira and asks where she is. around our home? come to the house right now. he goes back to the kitchen and asks her to take the pill. she cries and eats it. he says let’s go to the room now. I will carry you. she says turn the heat up in my room cuz I am so cold. after that take me to the room. he agrees and goes. she gets on the ground and feels around for the spilled contents and gathers them up in her hand and puts them back in the bottle.

mira shows up so soo opens the door for her. she asks what is going on. he says young is not feeling well. young comes over and asks for help. mira says it’s been a long time young. young asks him to take her to the room so he offers to carry her. he asks mira to clean up the floor of the kitchen

he puts her in bed and says are you really ok? from what I can see you don’t look well at all. I have somewhere urgent to go to so I will be gone for a short time. let’s go to the hospital when i come back. she says I will be ok now that I took the medicine. does that pill really make you comfortable after you take it- so there is no pain anguish or despair – do they all disappear and make you feel comfortable. he says there is no medicine like that in the world. I lied to you so your heart would feel more at ease. that pill is nothing at all. young: nothing at all?  then it wouldnt have made any difference if I took that pill so why (did you go that far and )wouldn’t you let me take that medicine. she remembers how he said “ok for the will I will kill you. it will make your heart comfortable when you want to die.” (young had asked for it) so soo said “should I give you that?”  he says she is sweating too much and tries to touch her head but she swats his hand away. mira comes in. she tells him to go cuz he said he is going somewhere. he says it’s strange cuz you are sweating too much. young says that’s why I am going to ask mira to  wipe the sweat. soo says I am going to call wang. young: dont do that. soo: so that woman cant do anything to you –  I will stay by your side. but right now you need that woman. soo calls wang and walks out. he tells her to hurry and come home cuz young is sick

young asks why mira came. if it’s cuz of oppa’s request then go. mira says it was cuz of oppa’s request. everyday I wanted to come and apologize to you. reporting to wang it wasn’t just cuz of money and how you mistreated me when you were younger. I like the money but I thought if I told wang about you – I thought she would be even more good to you.  young brings up what mira did in the past. young: even that matter at the hospital when we were in high school? you heard it clearly too – the doctor saying my eyes werent like this just cuz of the brain tumor. mira: sec wang said that doctor was inept and didnt know anything. young: then why in front of lawyer jang did you say you didnt hear the doctor say that? mira cries and says I am sorry. young: are you really sorry. mira says yes I am really sorry. young says ok then stop crying and help me.wipe me down from head to toe and change my clothes and underwear.  mira agrees. young: for the last time I am going to trust you and say this. I wasnt in pain today. when wang comes back soon you have to tell her that “young wasn’t hurting that much. it was nothing at all” even if my brother comes back you have to say that.  mira says if I do that and you get more sick you will have to go to the hospital. young : if I go to the hospital this time I wont be able to come back to this home again. you remember too – after my father passed away I was trapped in the hospital due to a minor ache for over a month – you don’t want me to be trapped in the hospital like that time do you. mira says no I will change your clothes for you. young calls her friend SM on the phone

Soo tries to call Sora and gets a busy signal

Sora is talking with sec wang over the phone. wang:what is the reason for meeting me?  Sora: seeing how myung ho came to see me and asked me about Oh Soo –I thought it was cuz you were very curious about Oh Soo.  sec wang: when should we meet? sora: cuz I have work I will contact you when it’s convenient for me. I will give you one info in advance  – Oh Soo is dangerous for president Oh (Young). sora hangs up as Soo walks over to her

wang tells MH to drive faster

JS is following behind and says MH wont be meeting his woman today cuz sec wang is there. he looks over at HS sleeping and says she is pretty even while sleeping. he gives up following MH for today

soo asks does president kim know you came here. sora says I called Kim and said I just happened to run into you.  “you are the only one for me” that’s what I said (to him).  as always he believes me like when he believed me that the 78 uk he lost was with you and not me. why arent you asking me for that money.  soo: even if I die you wont give that money. cuz you know aside from the money there is no reason for me to stick to your side so you will use it till the end as bait. rather than getting old and dying next to you in misery, it’s better to go up against MC and Kim just once.  sora: I am going to meet wang. I will give you 3 days to settle your life here and call me. soo: arent you going to live as an actor like you like? Sora: yes I wont do it.  she starts to leave but he grabs her arm and asks what are you really doing. she says “loving you. that’s what I am doing. you might not like my way, but this is the only way I know how to stop you. i dont know another way. you have 3 days. you dont like that. should I end it now? it’s ok with me. but dont you have to say farewell to your pretty dongsang. she shakes him off and goes. Soo wants to hit something

Lawyer jang meets with that investigator/detective about Soo and shows a photo of him. cop says I know him well.  jang: how do you know him? cop: he is a famous gambler from cheongdamdong. now he doesn’t do it anymore (gambling). they say from a year ago he is a chef at an Italian restaurant. jang: Italian chef? the guy says: yes and there are rumors that he is the son of some group. but why are you asking about him? jang: no it’s nothing – you must have work – you can go.

a man comes over and asks why jang met up with that cop cuz he is corrupt and “holding hands”/in cahoots with the head boss (MC). (that means jang shouldn’t believe what that guy said)

mira lies and says young just has a minor ache. she already ate 3 bowls of porridge –this is the 3^rd bowl and ate half. if young was really sick how could she eat porridge.  soo arrives so mira says you can ask him. oppa young is ok right? young comes over to the hallway where mira, wang, myung ho, and Soo are gathered. young: what is so loud over here. wang: oppa said you were in pain and called me. young interrupts and says it’s just a simple ache. if I was really sick, would oppa leave me alone when I am sick and go out at this time of night to do what he needs to do. she looks at him accusingly and says: isnt that right oppa? he doesn’t say a word. Young: I took medicine and now I’m ok. she turns to go but turns back and asks: since when did you and oppa get that close sec wang. I thought you two weren’t close. seeing how you are today calling each other it seems like you two are getting along well. after I wrote the will, it seems like oppa is waiting for me to get sick. no one come into my room. cuz of the effects of the medicine I have to sleep early.   she goes inside. wang tells Soo: next time when you say Young is sick be careful. you know I am sensitive about her health right? she leaves. Myung ho says to Soo: also be careful of scandals- the board members saw you leave with sora.

soo goes in and says it wasn’t just a simple ache. young: sorry but every time you worry about me, I am reminded of the will. does it seem like I am rude, but what to do –  I’m sorry but I cant erase that thought. if you arent wanting me to get sick then stop. he says I will sleep with you today here and spread blankets on the floor but she says no I want to be alone so go. he says call me if you change your mind. I will come. after he leaves she has a hard time breathing cuz she was holding in her pain pretending to be ok.

the maid says young didn’t eat any of the porridge. wang says mira said she ate 3 bowls. but the maid says young wouldn’t even eat any so the maid gave young just half but young didnt touch it at all cuz the spoon hadnt been used.

wang calls doctor han. he says during the last check up there was nothing wrong with young so dont worry too much. wang says what if it’s the brain tumor relapsing. what do we do. as you know I cant live without young. he offers to come right away and take a look at young then tm if she is still in pain.

soo goes back to her room so young pretends to be asleep. he types in what he wants to write in Braille and it shows him how. he tries to make the punching sounds quietly. he makes mistakes. he touches her wind chime and smiles looking at her. he sits by her bedside and pushes back her hair behind her ear. then he ties a yarn to her wrist and puts his note on top. he leaves her room

she finally opens her eyes. she reads his note.  “even though I am not by your side – even though there is no wind blowing – now the wind chime will shake anytime. sleep well young.” she tugs and it chimes

at breakfast JS asks if young is ok. cuz hyung worried about you so much yesterday i thought something happened to you. wang says young is dressed (to go out). are you going to do charity? why don’t you rest a day. I have the porridge you like but young asks for rice. wang says yes rice is better. you are all well then. she tells her where the side dishes are so young starts to eat. maid says our miss really is better. sec wang couldn’t sleep all night and paced. she couldnt open your door in case you woke up. i felt so bad for her. young thanks wang for being considerate.  someone else – whether i have insomnia or not -whether i am awake or not – doesnt care and drops by my room. JS says who dropped by your room. I didn’t do that. hyung must have been really worried about you being sick. huh hyung? soo offers to go with young today and give her a ride, but young says on the way over there – dont you know that is my only precious time to be by myself. you interrupted my sleep last night so are you going to interrupt that too. Soo gets up and leaves. JS says you are too much. hyung was worried about you. never mind. he leaves to go after soo. wang tells her to eat slowly

outside, JS says it’s time to leave this home. what is up with her. let’s hurry and leave this place hyung. I don’t like her and this home anymore. like yesterday I am going to keep following MH with HS today. you meet dong and find out about what he discovered about sec wang’s family.  let’s hurry and end this and get out. soo watches young leaving so JS says what are you doing. I am talking seriously now. sora is after you and you are about to be found out. why are you just worried about young. aren’t you worried about you. Soo: I am worried. he chases after young’s car. JS: hyung where are you going.

soo follows her cab and passes her. he calls MC to meet now. young is holding the medicine bottle

MC is bribing that cop who spoke to jang. MC says if soo gets caught now I cant get the money. even if that person (jang) asks later on say the right thing. the cop says kim said he would get rid of you and soo. he doesnt like how you arent taking care of this matter with soo. there are rumors that sora is meeting soo again so be careful

MC turns and sees Soo below

young’s friend’s boyfriend says even though I am a doctor – looking at the medicine like this – I cant know what this is for. her friend asks what is this – who gave it to you. young asks is there no way to find out what the medicine is used for. the guy says I will find out. I will ask my friend who is in pharmaceuticals so if I ask he can try to find out. young asks him to do that

MC asks why didnt you pay me back the money still. did sora already spend the 7 million dollars. that cant happen. I told sora about you cuz I thought she would give you the money. then just feed your dongsang the pill. the deadline you promised is coming up. use the pill. if you dont use the pill there is no way for you to get the 7 million.  did you take that medicine. soo says I want to ask one favor. MS: what favor? Soo: I want to show Young to your older sister. MC: show her to who? soo says your sister is the best doctor in our country when it comes to brain tumors. the internet says that and so do others. my sister – my fake sister Young had a brain tumor when she was young and she is in a lot of pain. so please let me ask this favor. I will pay you back the money – somehow I will pay you back the money. MC throws the basketball at him and asks are you dating for real with your fake sister– putting your life on the line to date. you sure are putting on a show. soo: I didnt kill Hee Joo- it was an accident. it wasnt my fault. MC: all you can do is make excuses. soo: if I couldnt even make excuses I would have already kill myself – how else would I have lived. you pushed it on me that it was my fault cuz you werent able to protect Hee joo. isnt that why we are living like this.  we arent avoiding it. the two of us -we both made explanations that we needed for the sake of living like this. MC says you have 28 days left. Soo yells I will pay you back the money somehow but let’s save a kid who doesnt have any sin (who is innocent). convince Sun In noona somehow. please. MC says I saw you like this before too. when I said I loved Hee Joo. I will wait and see if after 28 days -when you have to die -even then if you are still thinking about that kid like now or like you did to Hee joo-find another excuse like “I couldnt help it.”

jang meets with that man again. jang asks if he is talking about Moo chul.  the man says that cop’s wife is ill so he is holding hands with MC. (working with him) the picture you have of Oh Soo – it’s correct he is a famous gambler in cheongdamdong. there is another Oh Soo who died but he was a chef at an italian restaurant. and the PL group Oh Soo used up  7 million of Kim’s money. kim is sponsoring sora the one who dated Oh Soo. there is talk that MC got Kim’s order and is strangling Oh Soo’s neck for the money.

the café guy tells jang how HS -the one going around with Oh Soo- HS told young that soo came cuz of money cuz he needed 7 million. then later soo came and said that wasn’t it. young cried a lot. Oh soo used that guy’s money huh?  jang says this isnt for sure so find out properly. the café guy is determined to go home and find that pic he took with soo when they were young (to prove which arm had the scar)

MC says to JS: I went to the restaurant to eat but your dad hurt his back. JS: you just pay attention to your dad. MC: why do you hate me. before you used to follow me around well. in the past you used to like me more than Oh soo. come and work for me.  JS: I don’t play with a guy who kills people. MC says if it wasn’t for oh soo I wouldn’t live like this. JS: fight me sometime without a knife. i wont be pushed around by you.

HS goes out and runs into JS’s sister. HS asks where she got the money to buy clothes that expensive. the girl lies she borrowed it then chases her story to she got a  part time job. HS doesn’t believe her and lists all the clubs she goes to so how could you have time to work a part time job. come here and tell the truth.  JS comes over and sees them fighting. he says they are having a dog fight

JS and another guy dong are spying on wang’s younger sister. dong says how wang’s younger sister owns this building. isnt it fun. I will find out more.

JS goes over to HS and says (Soo) hyung is crazy. HS: crazy over what? over young? soo calls so JS asks what is wrong with you. did you forget you had to meet dong today. soo says sorry I had work. JS asks what is more important than this to you. why? cuz you were paying attention to young do you not have time. soo says right now yes. he hangs up on JS. JS calls him ya and says he is crazy. HS calls out to JS and says let’s fold this up and forget about spending all night at MH tonight.  but he says even though I am mad at hyung work is work. I will save hyung. are you going or not. she says I am going for you so he says you are slowly falling for me

soo is waiting outside for young to come home. when she pulls up in the cab wang looks over. her sister calls and says someone is checking up on me. the realty office called me. also at her home someone seemed to be standing there. what is going on. wang says dont pay attention to it. I will call you back.

wang texts and asks to meet sora tm at a café in cheongdamdong you went to last time

soo follows young inside

HS and JS watch MH go inside. she wonders if the woman will come. JS says let’s get off the bike and wait but she asks to stay this way cuz it’s cold and hugs him close. JS: I love you. listen up just in case if you hear that you might get less cold. HS says after saving Oh Soo let’s go to the home. JS: I am going to the countryside cuz with my dad’s injured leg he cant run the restaurant. seeing him today it wont work at all. i am going to the countryside. HS: you said you didnt like your dad but do you like him. JS asks her to go with him to the country side. she says I gave you one but you are asking for two. I ask to date but now you want me to live with you. are you crazy – I wont go to countryside. i am a city girl to the bone. I wont go. JS: think it over more. they watch as the woman goes to meet MH. HS kisses JS twice so he kisses her back and covers their face with a blanket to make out more. that sure was handy to have a blanket in a delivery bag.

soo is eating alone and asks if young isnt eating. maid says she ate outside

wang just gave young the news. so young asks oppa and I are going to do a DNA test. why? why suddenly? wang tells her up to now I was afraid of letting others know. cuz if rumors spread it will be a problem at the company. and there is a problem with your re-selection in march as the president too. but now the time has come to tell you everything. before you said you could smell your brother in this room. that he must have come and went from your room. but at the time your brother was in this room. he touched the safe (meaning rob). young asks if anything was missing. wang: if there was time things would have disappeared. to tell the truth – from the start I was suspicious of your brother. that is why without you knowing we had one of his belonging tested for DNA. it came out a match for siblings, but the sample was strange. we were suggested to get a DNA test. young says you cant test memories.  memories that only the two of us know – oppa remembers.  unless he was my brother that couldnt happen. but if he came into my room without me knowing I am curious about that too. wang says i feel better since you are curious and it doesnt seem like you trust him implicitly. from here on when you sleep – your bedroom door. young offers to lock it from here on.

young gets a call from her friend. the girl asks who is person who gave you that medicine. it’s for putting down/euthanizing animals. young repeats: euthanize? the girl asks who gave you that cuz most normal people cant get that medicine so who gave that to you. young thanks her and says don’t forget the promise you to me that you wont tell anyone about this. hang up. there was knocking the whole time she was on the phone. she has tears in her eyes as she asks “who is it.” soo comes in and says it’s me. thank goodness you don’t look sick today but still let’s meet the doctor. I know a doctor and she is the best in our country. young says I don’t want to hear about it and looks away. he makes her face him and says just in case you dont have a minor illness. she moves away to the door and asks him to leave. he says if it’s confirmed that it’s a tumor then have surgery. then the brain tumor and your eyes too, but she cuts him off and says “with just a surgery everything works out. it’s so easy. thanks for your concern.” she opens the door for him to leave. soo says so this is what having a dongsang is like. if a girl I was dating did this – I would have said right away “what are you” but since you are my dongsang I cant react my usual way. you should thank the heaven you are my sister. if you were a girl you would have been in trouble. he tries to kiss her cheek but she turns away. he says it’s just a good night kiss from an oppa to his dongsang. sleep well. he kisses her cheek. soo: rest. after he leaves she shuts the door and locks it. he stands there for a long time just staring at that closed door.

HS and JS are still on the bike. she says chocolates are good after staying up all night and you are tired. JS: you think it’s sweet cuz of chocolates – it’s cuz you are with me. he puts one in his mouth and tries to get her to eat the other half.  JS and HS suddenly takes pics as MH comes out with the woman

Young remembers what HS said “listen well -it’s the other way around. the Oh Soo your brother told you about is totally nice.  your brother betrayed that nice Oh Soo. do you know that? your brother is a con. right now being good to you – it’s not for real – he is deceiving you.” then how young asked soo to meet the other Oh Soo and he said I dont know any news about him.  he duped me. he is not a nice guy. he is a con. forget him

young asks wang. tell me – what if my brother now isnt the real Oh Soo. what happened to my real oppa. wang remembers how MH said the other Oh soo we were looking for died a long time ago. young: why cant you tell me.  so wang says you know that there were two Oh Soos right? i think what if the other oh soo is your brother. young: then if we find the other Oh see then we can know everything. wang says yes but she brings up the DNA test so young says that method could reach the company.  there is a simple way so why do the dangerous one. young walks away

wang calls jang about business. jang says I will meet the board and come to see you. jang calls and asks for the glass to be tested for the fingerprint

young looks for the business card MH gave her to contact the person who knows about the other soo. she finds the card for Moo chul and goes out.

soo asks where she is going but ignores him so he holds her arm but she pulls away and almost hits him with her stick. young: sorry. it’s cuz I got sensitive. the cab driver asks aren’t you getting in. she says I am blind so please show me to the backseat. soo asks the driver to wait a while. soo holds her back and yells -what are you. if you are mad at me tell me what you are mad about. I told you I was leaving soon. so we dont have much time left together so what is this wasting it. she agrees to talk later  but now I have someone to meet. she tells the driver to leave now. Soo gets in the car and drives away first

the driver dials the number for young. she asks are you cho MC. I am Oh Young from PL group. I heard you know Oh soo from cheongdam dong so I called. he says it’s good that you called. I  wanted to contact you cuz of cheongdamdong Oh Soo. but I have a lot of work so you have to come to my club. she says I have your business  card – I can just go that address right. he says yes. then let’s meet when you come. MC checks and cant remember which business card he gave MH

the driver says sorry but I cant take you in cuz it’s a one way road. I am sorry – if it wasnt time to end my shift I could escort you all the way.  he tells her to walk straight from where she is standing. i am sorry. he leaves

some kid passes by and asks should I help you. he takes her to a club and says the door is closed. it doesnt look like it’s in business. what do we do. I have to go to hakwon. she says sorry and asks him to call the last number on her phone so he dials for her. he speaks to MC and she tells the kid her name. he tells her this isnt the location she was supposed to meet –  the club is in apkujeong called black jack. should I get you a cab? young says i rather walk if it’s within walking distance cuz it’s not easy for me to take cabs. he shows her which direction to walk and then ask someone. she thanks him and starts walking

JS shows soo the photos of MH and the woman. let’s end this quickly by using that against MH. soo gets a call from mira. she says Young is acting strange. how their friend called and said Young has a medicine that could euthanize her. what if Young takes that medicine. soo gets a text from MC saying I am on my way to meet your fake sister now at the akujeong club.it looks like our deal is over now.  soo gets that double dose of shock and takes off in a hurry. JS asks where he is going

young is walking down the street as soo drives over

young gets close to the club as MC heads over. the guy passing out fliers asks where she is going. she says do you know where the black jack club is. the guy says it’s not great there (no good looking people). our club is better. let’s go. she says just go cuz I have to find the black jack club. some other men come over so the guys motion to each other that she cant see. the other guy offers to escort her to the club. she thanks him. soo is right underneath the walkway and calling her on her phone

the men are robbing her. her phone keeps saying your brother is calling. she asks for them to let go of her bag. he lies and says I will take out your phone for you cuz your brother is looking for you. she asks for her phone and they can take everything else. just please give me the phone. she yells for help. suddenly soo comes over and breaks a glass over a guy’s head and scrapes his cheek across the wall to scare the others. it works cuz the other guys run off. soo’s hand is bleeding from the broken glass. soo lets go of the guy and he runs off. young gets on the ground looking for her phone. she finds the pill bottle and holds it.

soo holds her hand that’s clasping that bottle and calls out her name softly. she gets up and walks off. he holds her back so she slaps him. young: it must have been so easy for you. to deceive me cuz I couldn’t see – it must have been really easy for you. he tries to hold her but she pushes him away and throws down the pill bottle saying a medicine for euthanasia.  he is crying as she drops to the ground crying and asking: why couldn’t you kill –why couldnt you kill me.  it was so easy like this– I couldn’t do anything like this so why couldn’t you kill me. why?! his tears keep flowing along with hers

*OMG this preview gutted me – I was crying left and right.

He looks like he is holding onto everything that means the world to him – hoping if he holds on tight enough she won’t slip away from him. hoping his embrace will speak for him and convey what’s in his heart. hoping his tears will convince her of his sincerity. counting the seconds before she pulls away hoping he won’t have to let go.

Watching the preview, I now realize this is going to end up being way more tragic than I originally thought. Young is going to hold onto the hope that he is still her brother. All those years of waiting for him to come back so she has someone she can trust by her side, enduring all that loneliness and pain from her illness, everything she was holding on for all this time is riding on his existence. Now that she thinks she has someone by her side, even if she knows the truth that he isn’t her real brother, she isn’t going to throw away her only hope for his love.

*People are wondering why Young was so cold to Soo suddenly on this episode, but it was cuz of the first scene. when he emptied that pill behind her back, he betrayed her trust -not just as siblings who made a promise, but as a seeing person and a blind person. he didnt tell her why he did it and just sneaked behind her back taking advantage of her being blind. that’s why she found out what that medicine was really for – she had to know why he would do that behind her back. that kind of despicable behavior coming from someone she loves must have been hard on her. (he never did tell her the medicine would kill her – he said it was an amulet. she really thought it would just ease her pain and suffering – not kill her outright. they even promised to share the pill so why would she think it would kill.) Compounding that problem is wang telling her Soo was in her room to rob her safe and that nagging thought that he is after her will. Then everything she remembered from what Hee Sun said just made it worse. At this point she has no reason to believe him anymore except for one thing – their shared memories from childhood that only Soo and Young would know. Once she finds out those were lies too, she really wont have anything left to hold onto-well except for his genuine love for her. Basically everything that happened from the deception about the pill started a domino effect and all the other facts that she is putting together is just knocking away all the trust and faith she had in him. I bet that last one that still stands will be her feelings for him. The affection she has nurtured won’t be so easy to knock down cuz it’s the only thing standing between hating him or forgiving him.

I was working on this 37 min BTS translations from Good Morning and realized SHK and JIS speak in banmal most of the time to each other, but JIS speaks banmal to the director and staff too which is sort of unusual for a guy his age. But I think that’s the aegyo side of him coming out.

for the group photo outside the director said the emotion is for them to look like the four of them went to go play at a pension (Inn) and said for them to not look like they are having too much of a good time –just act like that they had a memory of having fun at one time. so JIS keeps repeating that to the others and asking the director “don’t have too much fun” “check and make sure we don’t look like we are having too good of a time.”

in between taking his poster shots alone, his staff says to cover up with the coat but JIS plays it cool and says “why cover up – it’s so annoying.”  his stylist accuses him of acting like that cuz there is a camera on him right now so since he is really freezing JIS tries to be cool about it but quickly says “then should I cover up for just a short time”  and puts the jacket on

when JIS was up on that platform his stylist extended her hand for him to help her up but he jokingly shook her hand and says “it’s good to meet you. werent you trying to say hello. come up.” she goes up and helps him put his coat on. the narrator says thanks to JIS joking around laughter doesn’t know when to leave the set. as soon as his stylist went up to put his coat on he stepped down right away. he could have just done that to begin with so she didn’t have to go up there. he laughs and gives her a helping hand down.

inside JIS and SHK do an interview. he says how they are filming the drama now. the staff is filming in the mountain and it’s cold and this winter it feels like the coldest. he thought it would be warmer today while they filmed but it’s really cold. SHK says many of the staff are suffering cuz they have to film outside almost every day. so I thought today would be warmer and came but it’s really cold. I am dressed the warmest so I cant say that I am cold right now. the narrator says “in a weather where you feel like your whole body is frozen solid” SHK is doing her poster shoot outside and doing her best till the last cut. then they show JIS wearing a suit inside and doing his poster shoot. she says how even the way he stands shows that he used to be a model. he looks like a commercial. since SHK is playing a blind person she wonders should I not stare at the camera lens. the woman playing sec wang says don’t look at the lens. SHK says last time during the graduation pic she looked at the lens. wang says that young wouldn’t be able to see the lens so don’t stare at it. we will look at the lens (her and the guy playing Young’s dad)

in that scene when Soo takes Young shopping where she says their company’s clothes is the best and asks if Soo is good looking, they filmed that scene with one take and got an okay sign. they sit and rehears their lines and JIS tells the guy in the hat that they memorized it all and wont get any mistakes. JIS stands up and starts picking lint off his coat. he says aloud “kids let’s take the lint off. I have an image to maintain to look good. who am I talking to – where are all my kids (his staff of stylists)” so people nearby laugh.

at the press conference SHK says: when I first heard that JIS got the role I felt relieved cuz I can lean on him (count on him). that’s what I felt first. since he is someone who is good looking and acts really well I always thought we should have met on some project but never did – now that we are more mature and got to meet on such a great project – it so great. we haven’t filmed for a long time yet, but we did a little bit. our chemistry matches well and while acting he is very good to me so I am having a really fun time filming. from here on for the remaining time I am really expecting/anticipating a lot.

This part was left out, but it came out on another video so I am going to insert it here since it was the first part of his answer. JIS: being able to film with a such a good actress – as an actor there is no way it’s not a big honor and something that makes me feel good. from my position, to speak honestly – i thought I just need to do well (cuz she is going to do a great job).

JIS: I have a lot of things that I am grateful to Hae Kyo shi. when you just read the lines and when you are about to act (the lines) – the feeling is really different. There were a lot of times when I thought it was difficult. at those times when I couldn’t figure things out – watching how Hye Kyo shi acts and listening to the lines/dialogue and in that moment there were a lot of times it helped me figure things out. so that’s why I am so grateful and from here on too please take good care of me. he says that to her so she smiles and bows to him.

for that scene when they are running on the beach during the sunset the narrator says they are a beautiful couple that hurts your eyes (cuz of their beauty) and they look really great together. the director called out “action cue” so HK ran but JIS didn’t so she looks back at him accusingly. he just cracks up laughing. he says “there is no other acting in this world that is so embarrassing than this.” narrator says even when they just walk it’s like a commercial shoot.  while they put some coats on to warm up the director asks them do you want to see (what we filmed so far) but both of them say no thanks cuz it’s too embarrassing. JIS: later on you are going to add music to this right cuz without music we look like fools. he tells his stylist my feet are frozen. next he is about to film a shot where he picks up snow to roll into a ball. as soon as he hears the cut sign, he quickly drops the snow and his stylists run over to put heat packs on his hands and he cries “it hurts. I am crying” in a baby voice. narrator says during weather where it’s cold just to stand they had to run around on the beach so of course their bodies were frozen. it took over 2 hrs to film this “perfect impressive scene” so the narrator says there was a good effect to the two of you suffering.

the narrator talks about SHK’s portrayal of a blind person. the acting that she does as her hands follow the wall as she walks, how she puts on lipstick, and holds an arm – she is getting great scores for doing such a perfect job acting like a blind person. SHK says how she went and met a lot of blind people, spoke a lot with them, and studied a lot on it. before she met them she had some stereotypes and misconceptions. the biggest homework for her and the most important is to break all those stereotypes and misconceptions about  the blind that many people have.  so that people will think that the blind are the same as everyone and change their views on them. when SHK portrayed being blind articles poured in about it.

for the scene in the mall where those kids knock over her drink and the kid’s mom knocks Young down they rehearsed that scene and she told the kid to pull on her hand. the kid pretends to cry for real so she says someone will think I hit you.

for the important scene in the fountain SHK and JIS are both nervous. when she slips into the fountain pool, as soon she hears “cut” she gets up and tries to get out. but director wont let her.  she says “what do you want me to do. what is this – giving me a bath.” then it’s JIS’s scene when he goes into the pool and kneels by her side. they actually filmed that scene when she takes his arm outside of the pool so she doesn’t remain wet the whole time. showing how much she tries at all times– how beautiful that is – SHK. after the scene JIS stands to the side and claps cuz she did a great job.

Kim bum says the mood maker on set is JIS sunbaenim. JIS stands to the side and nods in agreement. JIS: you saw it accurately. Kim Bum says cuz the weather is so cold it’s hard to control your body and expressions, but he (JIS) tries his best to make it easier. cuz the story gets so depressing on set for real it could feel like that too but JIS sunbaenim always – as soon as they yell “cut” he makes the mood bright again so he is the mood maker. JIS: it makes me think if someone was looking it seems like I wasn’t focusing on acting so I suddenly feel uneasy.

for the shooting scene, JIS has great form when he shoots, but he misses so the director says you need to go to the army again. JIS: it’s a different gun than the one I used. when they film the scene he sort of smirks cuz he actually hit the target. when they yell cut he quickly says I hit it. why didn’t it fall down.  without knowing it I hit it and smiled cuz I was happy. they shoot the scene where he helps Young shoot. JIS ad libs “wah – you are daebak” he motions for the person next to him to see too. everyone laughs cuz of his ad lib. then in the next take when Young asks did I hit it, he asks did you go to the army? narrator says JIS has sense and has a lot of ad libs prepared

for the scene where JIS had to be hit with water balloons, the narrator says “he hung in there through the whole thing without an NG and finished the shoot. after it’s over they wipe down his face. he repeats twice that he is ruined (his image -probably cuz he looked so silly out there). then he goes back to SHK and says his lines “my dongsang can see for sure.” she offers to wipe the water off his face, but he says it’s ok and pushes her hand away like his character was supposed to do. off camera he jokes why is this woman like this when I said I didn’t want her to. he says that’s what his character should have said.

during the press conference SHK says it’s been 5 yrs since I did a drama. in between i kept working and kept standing in front of a camera so for the first shooting it wasnt that awkward. for the first time filming (this) it felt like I’ve been going there a lot – it’s not easy to have that kind of feeling and i am continuing to feel that and my heart feels at ease.

JIS says it’s been a long time since I got a project to do – it’s been 4 or 5 yrs. everyone knows I had to go the army like all men do. as you can see i dont have anything heavy about me (meaning in real life he is known for being happy and upbeat) – the character I am protraying too – I’m trying not to make him seem so heavy -I am doing my best to portray him well.

for the scene by the lake when Young goes in the water and Soo has to go get her, some divers went in first to test how deep it gets so JIS watched that and looked worried. cuz one wrong step and he is waist deep in freezing water. the director instructs JIS to run in and get about waist high at least. so JIS says I will just cross it then and it makes those men laugh.

the children are there to film the young version scene – where they have the picnic by the lake so JIS goes over to the kids and ask if they ate – you didnt eat. let’s go and eat- you have to eat first and then do it (the scene). the woman says the kids ate bread. while they film the picnic scene JIS goes over to them during the break and asks do you like the way you acted. if you dont like it then do it again. it’s ok. he asks the girl can I eat one (cracker) and says pyong to her. the narrator says JIS is not shy with the kid actors. he kept sneaking the food prepared for the picnic and put them in his mouth. he says to the boy  it’s hot so you have to drink slowly. he kept eating too much so the girl on his staff tells him “oppa they have to use the food for the scene – the kids only ate two each.” so JIS looks guilty and says I was hungry and he finally moves away from the food.

for the scene where Soo has to slap Young on the cheek before they shoot it JIS asks her in banmal – is it ok? I have to slap you on the cheek. is it ok? she says it’s ok you can hit me. someone asks if she gets hit on the cheek does she tend to swell up and turn red but SHK says I dont know cuz I havent got slapped much.  I did the hitting – I’ve always done the hitting on dramas so I havent been hit. the director says something so JIS laughs and says you sound like you’ve been hit a lot so you are talking (from experience).

the actress playing sec wang says it’s the first time working with JIS and says good things about him like even though it’s their first time meeting and working together it’s not uncomfortable. when he comes on set the film set becomes brighter -mood is uplifted-he tells lots of funny stories well and even though he is busy with his own role

the guy playing Moo Chul says JIS’s visual is good (meaning he is good looking) and from my perspective he is young. when he talks to people he always has manners. his passion for the project. I still dont know what his negative sides are – he must have them. Oh Soo has charm but the real JIS has hundred times more charm/attractive qualities.

the girl playing Hee sun describes JIS’s looks like his height and face. she says how he is the mood maker. each word he says is fun. cuz I havent acted much when I come on set I am frozen and nervous but thanks to oppa I can adjust quickly and was able to get close quickly with the other unnis and oppas.

for the scene when Soo has to go back for his cell phone and coat, JIS made a mistake and forgot to take his coat after switching it out for JS’s. so JIS jokes: my acting was lacking. I should have done well. when I was in my prime (back when he did all those dramas)  I did well. it’s not easy.

the actress who plays sec wang: as you know from watching the drama – I love Young a lot – I love her very much so I manage her and control the people around her. it’s that kind of role. until the end I will try to kick Oh Soo out from next to Young. I will try to find out if he is the real brother or not. even if he was the real brother i wouldnt leave him next to Young’s side. I will try to plan something I think.

the actor who plays Moo chul introduces himself. he describes his character’s job and what he is doing to Soo. I am his ally but I could end up being his ally or his enemy – when you watch the show you will know.

the girl who plays Hee sun introduces herself. how people are thinking she is doing well in acting. she worried about the country accent she used. when I saw the show it came out better than I worried about. people are thinking I am doing ok so half of me is proud and other half is shy. I have to work harder. you dont know which way Hee sun will jump. I dont think Hee sun will betray (soo) -she wont – she probably wont.

during the mountain hike scene when he carried SHK on his back, maybe cuz of the cold, he sort of snaps his question at the director “do we need to just shoot one cut? just shoot one cut!” SHK laughs so he does too as they go back to position again. even though he was supposed to look like he was having a hard time carrying her when he got to the camera he posed. he sort of looked like a runway model doing the pose at the end of the walk except he is on a snowly mountain doing this with a woman on his back. good thing she is petite and light. when they were preparing for the next scene, he asks his stylist “my front bangs arent too straight right? if it’s too straight I come out looking too cute.” He makes a cute face after saying that. for the scene when he has to put earmuffs he couldnt take it off cuz it might mess up her hair so he lets her take the muffs off. he asks the director if her hair looks ok, but she says very quickly in banmal “I gave up on it (looking good)” so the men all laugh.

the same press conference scene from before comes on again. this is some poor editing if you ask me.

the narrator says JIS and SHK’s acting looks natural – the two close actors even while waiting to film they kid around often. as soon as the camera starts to roll they fall into their acting. the two actors who made it warm when the harsh winter wind was blowing.

during the snowball fight she hits him and knocks him down. she asks did you get hit? Soo: I got hit.  the narrator says Soo doesnt go easy on his dongsang -for a short time they forget about the hard time filming and joke around with the snow and have fun. then SHK nails him with a big chunk of snow so he reminds her yelling “you are a kid who can’t see!”after they finish shooting JIS yells “director the snow hurts.” narrator says it was hard but they had fun and finished filming well.

JIS: i am meeting you after a long time – I should have met you sooner. I think it took a long time so that I could meet you on this project. as much as you expect/anticipate -for the sake of making a good project I am trying very hard. I will work hard to film and make (this) to receive your love. I will work hard on the set – i will please ask for a lot of interest and expectation. thank you.

SHK: as much as a lot of staff and actors are suffering in the cold, I expect a good project will come out. JIS who is next to me and I will work hard to film.

There is one more 5 min 25sec youtube link I found that had an interview with these two right after their poster shoot. they each talked about their characters, but there was some extra info that didn’t come out on the previous 37 min video so I am including it here with a screencap of them laughing about the stress they feel.

SHK: after meeting a man name Oh Soo this character is finding hope.

JIS: being able to film with a great actress is a big honor and good luck/fortune. the dramas that Hye Kyo shi came out on did really well so next to her I am continuing to find energy/strength in that and filming. since SHK shi is coming out on it – look forward to it a lot more.

SHK: I was always expecting to meet up with JIS shi on some project, but we met up later than I thought.  we could have meet sooner. more than in the past now that we have both matured we are able to act together on a project -it’s an honor and I am having fun doing it. (starting from here you can hear JIS laughing) I am also grateful every day. I am so happy. since it’s hard -as a human being I do get a lot of stress. (they both laugh) actors who havent done this project -they wont know our stress. still – after we finish each scene – we can feel the improvement so I am working hard with In Sung shi.

both of them get ready for the interview and check their hair, makeup, and clothes.  SHK is ready when JIS asks for paper. she looks over at him and starts to laugh cuz he placed it on her lap.  JIS: it could really come out. he asks the director “this is effective isnt it?” director says yes.

Q: for both of you – it’s been a long time since you two came back to dramas so you must have struggled a lot to choose.

SHK: the writing/dialogue was really really good and as many people know the director’s cinematography is really impressive –  i was drawn by those things a lot. there was no reason not to do it.

JIS: the greed to portray a character like this – I thought I could do well and wanted to challenge myself so I ended up doing this project. since I get to work with the writer/scriptwriter and director -without any concerns, i chose this project.

Q: you have the role of a blind person -wasn’t that difficult to act?

before she can answer JIS replies “it’s hard”

she says how she went and met many blind people, talked to them a lot, and studied a lot. (same answer as translated above in the other video) and that there wasnt a big difference between blind people and people with sight.

The guy asks about the online photos on their height difference.

SHK: just cuz they cant see that they cant do anything -that’s the wrong way to think. when Oh Young wears heels, it’s always when there is someone next to her guiding her.  when she goes out alone, she wears safe shoes.

JIS jokes: today her guide is here next to her so she wore heels.

Question is about the set

SHK: the mood on our set is really great. cuz JIS shi is our mood maker (JIS grins) so we laugh a lot – the staff too.

Q:how does he make you laugh?

SHK: JIS shi has a certain humor. cant make us laugh here (as in he cant show us here)

JIS: cuz it can get heavy – if the film set mood is bright, it can be more effective so i make it comfortable and fun – for it to be light hearted.

the guy says both of them cry too much if you look at their projects. it shows clips of JIS and SHK crying in dramas I never saw before.

the rest of the video cuts off. I’m sure there was a part about them saying goodbye and hoping we will watch their drama

*JIS’s stylist says the length of his legs are 15 cm longer than the average male (so like 6 inches). The suits and coats that were customed made for his length are the blue double breasted suit in the first episode, the burgundy suit he wore when he first met Young (and read her letter to her), the blue coat he wore when he first went to the house,  and the maroon coat he wore at the department store. Oh Soo’s fashion point is his suspenders. He wore a variety of them so far. anyone can buy them – they cost around $58.

In past interviews and talk shows, I know for a fact that JIS is notorious for his use of aegyo. He puts even JW to shame in that department. JIS says the cheesiest things on the phone like when a hyung calls and asks where are you – he says something like “in your heart.” For some reason I think the army mellowed him cuz he isnt using that much aegyo in these BTS videos. he isn’t overly flirty with SHK either. they do speak banmal from time to time off camera, but when they are facing the camera directly they address each other using jondae. I have to admit I was really curious when SHK said that she knew one day she would end up working with JIS, but she thought it would have happened a lot sooner than now. I agree with her and think this is exactly the right project for them to work together so it’s good that they met up later when they were both in their early thirties. I think their combined experiences from working on dramas and movies during all that time helped them to become these characters better. It was just a matter of the right time and the right role that is making these two characters seem so credible at being in love.
