You From Another Star E19

From 400 years ago to now, DMJ has come full circle. After falling in love with SY, his life on earth and the accompanying experiences feels complete. Whether we get to see the next phase of their lives through some miracle is still up in the air, but I’m relieved that he got to feel this much love – to the extent that he would have died to treasure it even a day longer. No matter what SY says in the future to urge him to leave, nothing else will be as deafening as the truth and finality of the fact that once he leaves, he probably won’t be able to return in her lifetime. His life now only has meaning with her in it so why would he choose to go and never return. Fate brought these two together and that’s what is going to separate them or keep them together I bet. All the clues to the ending have been laid out for us and some of us have tried to bring the pieces together to form a picture, but I must admit, I stopped trying. (Not only does it befuddle me, but I like not knowing cuz it leaves an air of mystery and suspense. Part of the fun is the expectation of what’s to come so why deprive myself of that.) Just like the journey MJ started out on years go on the day he ventured away from his fellow companions to go study human beings up close, that same curious mindset is going to see this through and remain here on earth. That is probably why he had that vision of himself disappearing – he missed his ride on that comet. Though we only got a glimpse of him in that state, it doesn’t mean we won’t end up seeing the reverse of that. Maybe he will start to fade, but come back intact again – hopefully more human and mortal than before minus his abilities. The ending is still a coin toss, but no matter which way it falls, I’m determined to not let the outcome waver me from considering this one of the best dramas out there.

Anyone who doesn’t believe in love should watch this episode. It will make any jaded person renew their faith in love and anyone who hasn’t had the chance to fall in love yet will realize what they have missed out on and look forward to the moment when they can experience it firsthand themselves. I always thought I knew all there was about love, but this show is making me realize there are some surprises that are still left for me to experience. Just vicariously going through all their emotions has viewers on the edge of their seats each week so I can’t imagine those who have to actually experience losing love and the anguish of separation for real. Despite their possible impending separation, there is so many things about this that’s uplifting like the fact that separation alone won’t stop each of them from continuing to love one another. If anything living apart might even make their love grow even stronger. The key point is that he stays alive – their geography can be an issue for another day. It’s not like I watched a lot of movies with people falling in love with aliens to have any basis to go on cuz I would hardly count E.T. as something to reference since it was about a little boy who was going through a difficult time in his young life and needed a friend like E.T. to help him deal with his parents’ divorce. It’s probably why YJ loves it so much too. It helped him deal with his missing father all these years. As far as that Edward Tulane book goes, whatever ending happened there isn’t necessarily something that can happen here. I’m certainly hoping it strays far from it since I don’t want MJ to be apart from SY for that long to eventually realize he should have appreciated her love for him when he had it and that over the years, he never stopped loving her and grew to love her even more. I want MJ and SY to have their own original ending and if truth be told, I want the icing on the cake too and hope for some of their wishes and plans tonight to come true in the last episode. Who knew even aliens can dream of having a large family and white picket fences. It seems MJ and SY aren’t that different after all.

Written before it aired: Why should you forgive yourself for following your heart? There is nothing wrong with that at all. If anything, shouldn’t we fault those who follow other selfish motives like greed (SY’s mom) or blind maniacal ambition (like JK).  Neither SY  or MJ meant to do any harm, but each of their actions and decisions recently ended up breaking each other’s hearts directly or unintentionally. I think that’s just part of human nature cuz the more you love the more you try to please the other and it doesn’t matter what you have to give up along the way. That’s why now that SY knows the truth that MJ held out on, she is going to take steps to rectify it. So far she has never done or said anything most people would expect so I’m counting on that again – please don’t let me down now. Instead of just pushing him away or keeping her distance, I hope she tells him the truth and continues staying by his side till the time comes when he has to leave. Keep making those memories they promised each other and don’t waste even an hour or a day apart. If you ask me, pushing him away isn’t the answer – if anything this is the time to hold onto him even more tightly till his comet comes and then she can let him go. Instead of thinking of it as letting him go and leaving her, I prefer to look at it as he has to live to continue loving her.

So far as I can tell, MJ has mostly used his ability during dire situations in order to protect SY countless times, defending her dad, rescue Jang, to help out HK in getting his sister in law back, and just by being an alien, MJ has already become a hero in YJ’s eyes. It’s so cute how he woke up and tested out his powers to make sure they work so he could show them off for SY, but he doesn’t get why that stuff doesn’t make him a hero in her eyes – mostly since she is oblivious of most of his heroic acts. If she could only see all the good things he has done for her sake behind her back, she would see him as a life size hero and never doubt his abilities again. If she saw the DMJ we have seen all this time, I think it will be easier for her to do the right thing. Truthfully nothing will make it easier, but I’m betting it will make her more courageous at least to let him go.

Starts from Joseon time when Do Min Joon is meeting with the famous writer Heo Gyun, who is currently writing the Tales of Hong Gil Dong. Heo Gyun has come to see Do Min Joon because his Hong Gil Dong character uses Taoist magic to help those in need. He heard that Do Min Joon also knows Taoist magic and wanted to see him perform it so he can write his story. Do Min Joon appears and disappears in front of Heo Gyun. He pinches MJ to see if he is dreaming or not. MJ says “ouch.” Heo Gyun asks what kind of Taoist magic MJ just performed, and MJ clarifies that he isn’t performing Taoist magic. Heo Gyun asks, “Then what?” MJ is definitely someone special and is similar to the character in his book. MJ disagrees- Heo Gyun’s character has a strong sense of duty so he uses his abilities to help people, but he is not like that. Heo Gyun asks why; why doesn’t he help people instead of hiding like this? MJ explains that he has helped people before, revealing what he was, but those people only saw him as someone different- a monster. He decided he won’t do foolish things like that again. Heo Gyun asks, “What about for the person you love with your whole heart? Will you not save that person?” MJ replies that he doesn’t have anyone he loves with all his heart. Heo Gyun asks if it isn’t possible MJ will meet someone as he lives his life in this big world? MJ assures Heo Gyun that won’t happen. He also won’t be living here forever; when the time comes, he will go back to where he came from. Therefore, no matter how big the world is and how long he lives it, he won’t be giving his whole heart to someone. He is not that foolish.

SY reads the words in his journal that if he loses the chance to go back this time that he could disappear from this place and die in the near future. she remembers asking him if he would really be ok not going back

Jang goes out and meets SY who drove to meet him. they speak in the car. she calls him father so he says I’m not -you know I am not his father. she says DMJ said that you are like a real father. last time when he was sick you told me that he had to go back in 3 months. why did you say that then? if he going back somewhere? jang asks didnt you come cuz you know everything. SY: it still doesnt feel real. even though he suddenly disappeared and appeared in front of my eyes -even though I saw all that-  i still have a hard time believing he is from another star and that he has to go back to his star. Jang says it’s true. she says DMJ said to me he wouldnt go back and that it would be ok not to go back but I read his journal and it said that if he doesn’t go back that he could die. jang: he has already been very different from the past. he never used to feel cold or hot, but these days he keeps feeling cold and the abilities he has keeps disappearing. so she asks if he really doesn’t go back then will he die? he could die and said he would stay by my side? what to do. Jang says it’s cuz he likes you a lot that much. way before you liked him – he liked you a lot. way more than you can imagine -he likes you a lot. he didn’t want your heart to get hurt so this wouldn’t happen -he tried so hard. I tried to stop him many times but what can I do – enough to put his life on the line, he wants to be by your side

MJ knocks and there is no answer so he just goes through the door.

HK is sitting there. MJ says you asked me to come so what is up with this. HK says hi -it’s DMJ – even if I dont open the door you can just come in- impressive. what are you/ what is your identity – some magician. MJ: did you tell me to come over to ask stuff like that. HK: how far does your ability extend? even though 12 yrs passed your face is the same. you can move really fast. can go through doors without using your hands. even though I loved her for 15 years straight -what I couldn’t do – you were able to get chun SY’s heart. you have everything so I envy you. MJ says I envy you. HK: you envy me? my blood relative tried to kill the woman I love and killed my eldest hyung. that day -the day eldest hyung died…flashback to when JK asked HK to give the tray with juice to the eldest. HK cries and says i gave it to him with my own hands. MJ says that wasnt your fault. HK says when everything is revealed to everyone in the world – my father and mother -how tormented they will be. what will happen to our family too. MJ: I get how you feel, but we cant cover up what he did. Lee JK will already consider you the enemy and could mess with SY again. HK says that’s why I called you. what should I do – I don’t like that the person I have to ask this is you, but answer me- what should I do?

MJ goes home and sees the note from her. she says i am too tired today so I just left. DMJ – let’s meet tm. he says ok let’s meet tm. he takes out the ring box

SY puts on lotion and cries remembering Jang saying “way before you liked him – he liked you a lot. way more than you know -he likes you a lot.”

women at the gym talk about JK – that he is the heir of S&C -that a lot of women come here these days to seduce him. JK gets a call and the voice says save me. JK asks who are you. are you DMJ. HK : no – it’s me -the younger brother of Lee HK – the one you killed.  (he played the recording of the eldest brother saying save me). JK says  what do you have?  i will explain it all so where are you now?

JK goes to meet a drunk HK. HK staggers over to open the door. JK asks can I go in?  he barges in and says you drank alcohol when you don’t. my younger brother. did that woman give you that? Yang MS? where did she get that. I didn’t know anything about it at all. she hid it well for 7 yrs. this is why I cant be compassionate. when I don’t take care of things right away when it becomes a hindrance – it becomes complicated like this. HK asks is that why you did it?  eldest hyung, Han yura – how many more were there that you did that to?

Saemi brings over fruit for Yang. Yang asks aren’t you close with young master HK? saemi: yes – why? Yang: i said something I shouldn’t have so I wonder if I put young master HK in danger. saemi: what are you saying? what about HK?

Saemi goes out of the room and calls HK to check on him

JK pets his head and says i dont have any ill will towards you -I wont do anything to you if you just obey me well. he points the tranq gun and says what was that recording you played for me a while ago. where is it? Hk says I dont know. JK says if you dont obey me now kid, you will have killed yourself after drinking. I came too late to meet you here at this hotel and quickly took you to the hospital, but wasnt able to save you. where is that recorded file and Yang MJ. fine. even if you are gone I can find it. suddenly the gun is out of his hand and in MJ’s and he is pointing it at Jk. HK tells JK to turn himself in. if you turn yourself in you might not end up in prison for life, but don’t show up in front of our family ever again. JK says to MJ – didnt we say you wouldnt do this. you are making a big mistake right now. MJ says say what you want in front of people. he teleports him down the elevator to where Yoo is waiting with the cops. Yoo arrests JK for murder. attempted murder, and kidnapping (yang). JK says you are making a mistake now. call my lawyer. you cant do this without any proof. Yoo says there was CCTV in the room Lee HK was in. Lee HK set it up. everything that just happened in the room was caught on it. JK makes up excuses and saying what just happened was just me trying to make my younger brother fear me. I didn’t do anything harmful to him. so what do you mean murder and attempted murder? Park brings over the lackey  – the accomplice they caught for the wire accident. we almost missed him

they bring JK over to a crowd of reporters. they ask what JK was arrested for and how is he involved in Han’s accident. JK smiles and says to HK – you called the reporters. you did well. will it be aired too?  it will all be caught/recorded on videotape. HK – from the start i wasnt going to shoot you, but I did have some other back up insurance so you wouldn’t be able to turn down my request. he scares HK and JK says the wine SY likes the most. MJ: what are you talking about? JK: I made a reservation under your name DMJ at the wine restaurant she goes to often. she thinks she was invited by you and will be there now. (SY got the flowers and written invitation and went there. as SY puts on powder the waiter takes her phone away.) JK: right about now, the wine will have arrived in front of her. since it’s her favorite wine, she will have drank it as soon as she got it. of course when she drinks that – I don’t know what will happen.  MJ shoves him against the wall and reporters take photos so Park tells them not to. Yoo tells MJ to stop. JK says to MJ:  do you have this kind of time. she will be drinking it right about now. HK called her and begs please pick up. JK says to MJ: there is something you do well. disappear. if you want to rescue SY-I think that’s the only way. cant you? there are too many people watching for you to do that huh. MJ throws JK into the crowd and stops time, but it doesn’t last long. he jumps in the air and disappears, but reporters saw that and says what was that – a person just disappeared. Park denies it and says what are you talking about – I didnt see it. you saw wrong. stand back. JK says to HK: DMJ wont be able to rescue SY. HK punches him and says are you human? I will kill you. I will kill you.

MJ lands at the restaurant and drops out of the air onto a table and startles people – they wonder where he appeared from. he just dropped out of nowhere. MJ goes over and asks if SY is ok. SY asks how he came cuz people are watching. he sees the empty wine glass and knows she already drank the wine. SY says I feel strange and faints. MJ catches her. people say chun SY fainted and takes photos. MJ teleports her to the hospital ER room. he orders the nurse around telling her what kind of patient SY is  and what to prepare. nurse says there is no doctor now so wait. he yells there is no time for that now. He gets everything ready to treat SY himself. MJ blocks them from interfering so the doctor says call the police. MJ continues to treat SY to pump her stomach or flush her system

Saemi reads the news about SY and tells Bum to go to the hospital emergency room

reporters are at the hospital already.

Jang’s sec shows him the news report and photo of MJ and SY at the hospital and says isnt this the person who comes to the office often.

the mom is headed in when YJ runs out of the house and tells his mom that SY is in the emergency room. she asks again? how many times has she gone to the emergency room? this time why?

reporters take their photos as SY wakes up and she calls out his name. he asks are you ok? reporters ask isnt that her manager next to her. she says there are too many people and it’s too loud. let’s go where there are no people. MJ says ok -let’s do that. he helps her sit up and holds her close and disappears with her. people say they disappeared again – where did they go

they both drop out of the air and land on a pretty lane full of trees with flowers. he is weak from the effort of bringing them here. she asks where is this place. he sits down and says i came to the right place. I worried cuz it’s the first time I came so far. SY: where is this place? MJ: you said you wanted to go where there is no one.  no one is here – just you and me. SY: really? MJ: I bet no one can find us.  she looks around and asks is this by any chance your star? some alien planet? he looks at her and with a poker face he nods yes. SY: really? for real? MJ: that’s what I said. she takes a few hesitant steps and he is already cracking a grin behind her back. SY thinks she has been teleported to another planet and asks: then I am ok? my body isnt levitating or anything. I am really ok. I can breathe and my body doesn’t levitate. I am ok DMJ. He looks at her like he is suddenly wondering what her IQ might be or maybe how low it is. MJ: are you a fool. how can this be an alien planet. do you know how far that place is. her happiness deflated she sits down and asks disappointed: it isn’t?  MJ: of course it isn’t. also what will you do if it is an alien planet. SY: what do you mean do what? I will just live. if I can just breathe -I will live. I adapt/adjust quickly -with a body like this – even when I go to your star I wont be lacking (cuz he previously bragged people on his star were better looking than earthlings) I will even be very popular there -whatever I do I will be able to earn a living.  He has no choice but to laugh at her over brimming confidence. she looks around and asks then where is this place? * he took her to Jeju (30 min flight from Seoul)

SY runs over like a happy kid and asks there is just us here? MJ follows her and nods yes. she yells out at the view – only the two of us are here. no police – no reporters-no people-no one at all. I am Chun SY. try to catch me. this guy is an alien so try to catch him too. we are here together. we are going to live here together- just us two here. we will eat well and live well. she tells him to say something too. MJ: what? SY: do it – like me. he yells we are going to eat well and live well – just the two of us. SY: we are going to do that so what are you going to do about it. he takes her hand so she yells out: this is nice

she washes her face and he hands her a handkerchief and puts her coat over her shoulder. she asks should we take a pic. let’s take it. i even washed my face. you have a phone right? give it to me. they take a couple photo

they walk and she points out a unique tree. MJ explains the two trees branches intertwined and grew as if one tree. he names what type of trees they are.  SY: they aren’t even the same type of tree and are different species but it’s possible. I’m envious. cuz they get to stay together anyway till they die.  Not realizing she said something very meaningful that applies to the both of them, MJ lets her words sink in cuz he didn’t miss out on how true her words were. she asks to take another photo. MJ: again? let’s stop now. SY: the only thing that remains are photos.  they take two more.

they walk holding hands. she says right about now -everyone will be in an uproar. MJ: probably. SY: like the time here on earth passes differently than on your star – let’s do that here too. here I’m not chun SY the whole nation doesnt like and you aren’t an alien who cant let his identity be revealed. none of it matters. so while we are here let’s not care about what’s happening outside in the world. MJ nods and turns to face her. she looks at him and says “DMJ shi.” MJ: yes Chun SY. SY: I love you. if you say you will live on this star then I want to live here on this star too and if you say you have to go to another star – enough to want to follow you and live there – I love you. she touches his face and says  “though i am nervous you will suddenly disappear, this time we have to be together like this I would sell my soul- if only it could be stopped forever. even though my heart is having a hard time feeling this  and sometimes think what if I didn’t meet you – even though I have these thoughts -still- even if I can turn back time I would meet you again. I would bicker with you like we did – would have fallen for you – I would love you. he touches her cheek to wipe her tears. MJ: sure. she smiles and says what is that. when I said all this – all you say is sure? if a woman kneeled and said such embarrassing things, you should reply…” but before she can finish, he kisses her.

SY has to half carry him again cuz he is weak from the kiss

Ahn hears how all the top searches on the internet right now from 1-12 is about CSY and DMJ. Ahn remarks about how he thought there was something up with MJ when they met.  Bum says how Lee JK was arrested for being involved in Han’s accident so if SY comes back, she can make a comeback right away. the other guy says how there is so much interest in SY over what happened today and those who feel bad that SY was unfairly treated all this time. they still think we are her agency so there have been a flood of ad requests. Bum says even her class of scandal is different from others cuz of who she is dating  – the man with the mysterious superpowers. the guy says everyone’s reaction is the same as that. Ahn suddenly acts concerned and asks where is our SY now. when I heard she suffered on the set without any staff, I thought what should I do -maybe I should get involved. when she comes back I will have to make it up to her.

Jang watches the news at MJ’s home. the reporter says something unbelievable happened at Hanguk hospital. Doh- the one who was SY’s manager, disappeared with her. in front of their eyes, the two people disappeared like air in front of a lot of witnesses. internet sites and SNS (tweets) are calling it magic or something alien. this is something that cant happen. Jang watches the footage and turns it off. Jang: now are you satisfied? be happy.

SY wakes up in his arms and asks when he woke up. MJ: a while ago. if you are tired sleep more. she checks his fever and says it’s gone down. I think it got a lot better than the first time  -maybe you are becoming more used to it? (adjusting to kissing). she looks out the window and asks should we take a pic? MJ: again? aren’t you hungry? SY: I’m hungry.

They eat ramen together. she casually asks how many babies should we have. so he chokes and says “huh?” SY: we have to slowly make plans. how many do you like? MJ: 7? SY: 7? isn’t 7 too many? MJ: in the past they all did that. 7 or 8 was average. there were a lot of homes that had 12. SY: is that so? then 4 daughters and 3 sons? MJ: 7 daughters. SY: why all 7 daughters? MJ: I like daughters. boys are just loud. she says I will try but you know it isnt up to me. what if we have a son in the middle.  MJ: cant be helped. if we have one we have to raise him. SY: but to raise 7 kids -we cant live in the home right now. huh? MJ: probably. SY: how about the suburb of Seoul or the countryside. I think it will be better than an apartment. a home with a yard. my aunt lives in one and says there is a lot of maintenance to take care of it. probably more than an apartment.  should we raise some dogs too. he just stares at her lovingly so she asks why? MJ: nothing. I think a home with a yard is nice too. dogs are good too. SY; it is huh? she suddenly asks – dont you have anything to say to me. it’s a little cheap to say but you never once said what was in your heart yourself. that you like me or love me. MJ: just eat ramen. SY:  I think I said it many times. awhile ago too. she takes photos saying it’s cuz you look sexy eating ramen. he asks are you going to take pics all day?

JK stews in jail

his dad is on the phone with a lawyer trying to save JK his heir saying he cant be punished and yelling at the lawyer to stop the reporters. to stop them no matter what they have to do and even threaten to pull ads. HK walks in and puts the poisoned wine glass and bottle in front of his dad. the dad says you think you can have your brother’s place if you do this. he is someone who will do big things and cant be toppled with just a minor secret stain/blemish that you uncovered. what do you think you are. even if your brother is gone you dont get anything. HK says i don’t need anything at all. I’m just here to tell you not to cover up his crimes. he committed too many crimes during all this time.  he even tried to kill SY today. the dad says talk sense – what does he lack to do that? he has so much so why would he do that. HK pours and says this is the wine he was going to feed SY today. thankfully she didn’t drink enough to be harmed.  I will drink it. after I drink all this – believe me then. Lee JK brother is a monster who takes lives and would do anything to achieve his objectives. HK drinks but the dad takes the wine glass away and shatters it saying if JK was going to harm chun SY then there would be a reason to do that – she would have done something to deserve it cuz JK isn’t someone who would do that without a reason to. HK plays the recording of the eldest brother saying save me. HK: do you remember whose voice that is father? He kneels and says i am sorry father and plays the recording of the murder -the whole scene where JK talks about how the brother isn’t drunk and is becoming paralyzed. once it ends with the brother begging save me, the dad sits reeling in shock. HK cries and says i am sorry father.

YJ and his dad bring her mom to SY’s home. the mom says call her again. the dad sits down. YJ tries and says her phone is turned off. the mom asks what has happened. where did he go with my SY? this awful manager Doh. YJ says dont worry mom. she says how can I not worry. YJ says my MJ hyung isn’t someone who would put her in danger. the dad says I met him too and he is a good young man. the mom says if he is a good young man why would he take our SY and disappear. why isn’t he calling us?  YJ says didnt you watch the news a while ago? she almost died and was in a critical state, but my MJ hyung saved her. cuz people gathered they had no choice but to avoid them. the mom says what is he to do that – is he a doctor. the dad says he is the man our SY likes a lot. believe she will come back safely without any incident and  let’s just wait. the mom mutters I cant live then sneaks a look at his outfit and asks are those the only clothes you have?

at night they walk on the beach and she asks where is the star you lived on. MJ: how can you see it from here. SY: you cant see it from here? then where do we need to go to see it? MJ: why? SY: cuz I just wanted to know. whether it’s in the southern direction or northern. she points and asks is it over there? or here? or there?

they sit by a fire and he asks if she isnt cold. she says I am warm. let’s come here every few years in the winter. MJ: let’s do that. SY: with our 7 kids and 5 dogs and much later with our grandchildren -there is no need to go far away abroad – let’s come here. MJ: let’s do that. SY: we will have a large family – we have to work hard to feed them. you teach more classes and I will do stunts, play secondary characters, and everything – even if I get injured. MJ: we have to do that – let’s do that. SY: you promised. he promises. SY: sing me a song. you never sang me one even once. he asks what kind of song. she says a song that will make me think of you from here on when I say “DMJ.” a song that will make you think of me when you say “Chun SY.” a song that will make our memories last a long time. she leans on his shoulder again as he slowly sings. lyrics are:  the stars are especially bright tonight – when this time passes today – the words that you will leave makes me sad-the more this night passes- ah our happy time – our promises made whispered in my ear makes me sad – it’s not your fault- somehow I want to cry – I am having a dream I want so much.

when he is done she smiles at him and thanks him. he stands and kneels down in front of her. MJ: chun SY – the words you want to hear I cant say all of it, but the future you imagine I want to have it with you – that’s the truth. he holds out the ring box and she opens it.  she asks him to put the ring on her finger so he does. she cries and says this kind of childish proposal I really wanted to have. he says i didnt know I would do this kind of childish proposal. she looks up and says i am completely happy and cries with tears flowing down. she says his name.  MJ: why? SY: DMJ the one I love. MJ: why? SY: it’s time for us to wake from our dream now. for my sake – exist somewhere. for my sake – dont die. exist somewhere. what I am saying is – go – to where you are from. he looks at her with eyes full of tears

epilogue

back in Joseon, Heo Gyun thanks MJ for his time; he has given him a lot of inspiration for his book. Before he leaves, Heo Gyun leaves MJ with these words- he is not someone with the power to foresee the future but MJ will definitely meet a woman he will love with all his heart before he leaves this place and he will be able to give up everything for that woman. MJ asks Heo Gyun why he thinks so. Heo Gyun replies that since love is mischievous, it comes more powerfully and more binding to people who don’t believe in it.

MJ didn’t get why she took so many photos, but SY planned this – she knew photos and memories were the only things they could cherish once he is gone. I bet she didn’t see that proposal coming so it must have been twice as hard to tell him then that she knows what he was willing to do for her. I bawled all through her speech for him to exist cuz every word made me so proud of her. It takes a special kind of courage to say goodbye when all you want to do is hold on.

I like the ring he chose for her. For such a dainty simple little thing, it packs quite a punch in making an impression. Sort of like MJ himself, it’s modest, humble, and unassuming cuz it’s not about the glitter and glam. It represents his love for her and the kind of guy he is -something only an old grandpa like himself would select. It’s like it was chosen through both the eyes of an old fogey and a young man newly experiencing love – the very first ring he ever got for the woman he loves just had to be this simple cuz the act of buying one to show his love in a tangible form was the most important thing for him. She gets that and that’s why she smiled. If it was from MJ, she wouldn’t expect anything more than this. This is the kind of man she fell in love with so I bet this kind of ring was exactly what she had in mind. (Too bad her mom won’t feel the same way though.)

Something tells me MJ isn’t going to listen to her. He isn’t going to change his mind and leave. All this time, he had been a pretty obedient boyfriend – going to her side when she calls and humoring her over every little thing, but not this time. This is the one request he can’t honor- no matter how meaningfully put. He is going to resist and not want to listen to her. cuz if you think about it – he has lived here on earth way longer than her. He has as much right as her to call this place his home. All this time I assumed he only wanted to stay to be by her side, but now I get that decision was easily reached cuz he likes earth as well. This has been his home through the good times and the bad – all those years of lonely existence and sporadic interactions with all those human beings along the way. Now that he has SY in his life – he has everything he has ever wanted. Given the choice between dying here by her side or going back to where he is from and slowly dying over time just missing her, I think his choice is clear.

Dramas come and go as the years go by and the initial excitement fades over time, but when you are very lucky, certain scenes and dialogue stay with you – clinging, refusing to budge and become a part of you. So far with this show, every episode has completely won me over with its charm so that I don’t know if I can ever fairly judge another drama ever again. This one knocked it out of the park from E1 and deservedly should be called the home runner of all kdramas. I have enjoyed this show so much that I feel spoiled. Asking for the last two episodes to be just as good makes me feel ungrateful. This cast and crew has given us their best so whatever unfolds next week – be it tears or wails, I’m totally content with what we got so far. I’ve come this far with this couple so all my faith is going to be placed with them that they will bring us to the end safe and sound.
