Rooftop Prince E4

You need to hold onto something when you watch this episode. There are twists and sharp turns everywhere. For the first time after watching an episode of any drama – my initial reaction was “what the heck just happened?” OMG this drama went from something we knew to something I don’t even recognize anymore. More questions are piling up. Where is this story going to go from here on? Am I the only one who thought they jam packed this episode with like 3 episodes worth? They gave us so much to digest then they didn’t give us time to mull anything over and just threw more surprises our way. I think some of us will be reeling from the shock for the entire week till next wed. Bet the other dramas are not this exciting. 🙂

Rooftop Prince E4

After G runs on stage and hugs S, she slaps him and G gets dragged away. G tells them to let him go. other people ask if she is ok as he gets dumped outside. He tries to go back in and gets pushed away again. He keeps watching her through the window

H hangs the stuffed radish doll she won with G on the window. Her sign went up and she asks the man to make it sturdy. he says dont worry. her landlord comes over. He looks around at the fruits and vegetables and says she prepared quickly by herself. She says it is all thanks to him for letting her prepare her store before they finished the paperwork. H thanks you. he says he did that especially for her so she should know that. she invites him to sit so they can finish up their contract. She looks into her bag and takes out the envelope and the check isnt there. she dumps her whole bag looking for it so he asks what is wrong. He asks if the money is gone. She says the check is gone. how she made sure to put the check for $40,000 into her envelope and never took the check out. she never left her bag out of her sight ever since she went to the bank and put the envelope into her bag. she says the check is gone. he gets up to leave so she says sorry and asks him to wait and calls S.

S doesn’t pick up and remembers how she took out the check and tore it up. S smiles and doesn’t answer H’s call. he asks if she didnt prepare the money. H says sorry and asks the man if she can pay tm, but he says if he gave her this much leeway she should be on time with the payment. she says I am really sorry and asks for time till tm afternoon to pay.  but he says I don’t want to do this, but cancel the contract. she begs for more time till tm to deposit it, but he tells her to take the sign down and close up shop cuz I am going to send someone to lock it up.

Her strawberries get delivered. Mimi, becky, and Y, M, and C run over to H as she cries and sits on the ground.

The chairman and S come out and G was waiting. He calls out princess but the guards hold him back till S and the chairman drive away

S’s mom says to H- how did that happen you should have been more alert. H says how she can still get the money back cuz she canceled the check. the mom says but after going to the law office, bank -wont it take 3 or 4 days to get the money back. H: yes that is what they said. She asks to borrow $40,000 for tm and will pay her back within 4 days. the mom says how can I come up with $40,000 – I cant afford that.  H says if she doesn’t pay that amount by tm H will lose the contract down payment and will have to pay up all the money she got on loan. H: I will die mother -please help me. S heard all that and asks what are you doing here. the mom asks when S came. S asks to speak to talk to H. H says I have something to discuss with mother. S: it’s about that. the mom tells H to go cuz S might say something helpful.

S: do you remember what I said to you not too long ago. that you would ask my mom for help. H: i remember and I am sorry but I was in such an urgent situation so I told mother. S: why I said those things -did you try to understand how I felt or did you just think it was something you didnt want to hear about. H: what is it that you want to say now? S: you didnt understand what I said. H: if you arent going to help me then I will leave. sorry. S: I will give you the money. so sit down. I will give you the money you need but you have to listen to my request/favor. H: request? S: With the money I give you settle your affairs here and go back to America. H: you want me to go back to america? S:  let’s go back to the way it was in the past. Back to when we didn’t know about each other. dont you think that is better. H: cant you just help me out this one time. But S says I told you my request so if you want your favor, give me an answer by tm.

It starts to rain and H runs to cover her strawberries on the truck. G is standing there getting soaked. suddenly H remembers how she told him to wait here after he was done and she would come get him. he remembers how she promised to make him omurice at night.

she runs to meet G and he is cold and wet. She says you waited a long time didnt you. sorry for being late. I am sorry your clothes are all wet. let’s hurry and go.  he yells -where were you and what were you doing to show up this late. She says I had urgent business. G: does that mean your promise to me is not urgent. does that you mean you dont need to keep your promise to me-say it – what was so urgent. H: never mind. I am sorry. let’s go. G: you are not concerned about me at all. H: I dont care about anything right now. She yells back for him to stop cuz it was hard for her to come here to pick him up.  She walks off and he follows

Before they go inside the rooftop home, G says now I know. the only thing you care about is money. after opening that store, you are going crazy trying to earn money and forgot about your promise to come get me. he says something bad to her so she asks: why do you keep talking out of turn. what do you know to talk like that. G: since you are someone who doesnt keep promises, even if you run a business it wont do well. it’s obvious whatever business you do it will fail. H: you are really low. dont know your place and really rude. I dont know if you lived all this time saying whatever you want, but right now you dont know how to do anything and you are nothing at all. in your words, right now you are stupid with no abilities.  He tells her to shut her mouth. She tries to hit him but he stops her by holding her wrist. they glare at each other.

Back in Joseon era, S says to G: where have you been and why are you just now coming. G says where have you been princess during all that time. S: I was waiting for you here. G:do you know how much I looked everywhere for you all that time princess. Don’t go anywhere again. he takes her hand. S: I am afraid cuz there are eyes that can see. G: tell them to look if they want to see. They hug. Suddenly he hears H’s cell ring tone and H shows up and says into the phone – right now? how many boxes? I will go now. she tells G: what are you doing here. hurry and load the boxes on the truck. G: let go of this hand. H: I said let’s go. You have to earn your food. I said let’s go. H drags him away

G wakes up and says it was a nightmare.

Next morning C was saying to H how G is hungry so she should have warm omurice but she just leaves. M: where is she going without giving us breakfast. M was about to go after her but G says leave it alone. do you think we cant eat without her. Y offers to go out and hunt a dog, cow, pig, chicken or anything he can beat and catch. M stops him and says before you use your body think first. if you go out on the streets there are only people. G asks M: then what can we eat. C asks G to buy ramen at the store down the street, but G says where would i have any money

H meets her friend Amy and Amy’s husband. H says congratulations on your wedding. She gives the couple a wedding gift.

Becky knocks on the door and asks what are you doing. did your butts stick to the floor. someone says she is being loud. G asks why they want to tour seoul to rush out like this in the morning. becky starts to say they will be late for their part time jobs but C shushes her. C says we didnt want to but Becky said we had to go. M says since G got rained on yesterday you must not feel well so stay here and rest all day. Y: we will be back. Y pushes G back inside.

M directs traffic in a parking garage and causes a traffic jam.

Y is working at a café shop. The owner thinks she will have more business cuz he is good looking so Y says I will do my best.  but he doesn’t know what a credit card is and says to the customer: do I look like a fool – you have to pay with money

C washes cars – the same way inside and out by soaping up the inside and rinsing. he says how he will change everything that is black to white.

Amy brought back the tin box from H’s locker at work in the states when Amy quit last month

G asks what does that mean. H’s business failed so you guys went out to earn money. wasnt yesterday the first day of business? M says she lost the money so she didnt get to open her store and had to close shop (failed). G: how could this happen.  G remembers the harsh things he said to H-when he said it’s obvious her business would fail.

Mimi picks up the stuffed radish and squeezes out the water. the owner failed so you are crying too. Becky knocks on the door and makes the guys come out. she says : oppas- if you came to korea you need to move faster. if your butts get heavy, you will starve. let’s hurry and go.  the guys tell G they will be back. mimi asks G: there is nothing wrong with you so why dont you use your body (and work) they said you dont work if you have to use your body.  she gives the stuffed radish doll and says it cried all night – cheer it up well.

Amy tells H to think about something amy told her. on the bus, H remembers S offering to give her money. H looks at her box. Amy had asked H to work at their restaurant in NY.

H goes home and sees her stuffed animal and remembers how she won that with G.

Becky dances and the 3 guys follow her moves while G watches. G shakes his head and then tries to dance like that too by himself without them noticing. Mimi comes over and tells them to hurry. becky mutters it is hard to make a living and says she will go over there to change (into her panda costume) and come back. Y asks even if they wear this -do we have to dance in front of people.

Mimi says you cant just dance – you must dance like crazy so people will stare and come to our store. M: but it’s embarrassing. C says this will cover our faces so why are you worried – let’s hurry and put these on. Mimi says from the moment you put that on – you arent human from then on – you cant talk once you wear this. You have to act like a cat, rabbit, and dog. the 3 nod yes. mimi: even if people talk to you – you cant answer. let’s hurry and go. the 3 bow to G and G tells them he understood and tells them they can go.

Mimi tells people to try these fresh strawberries. she tells the 3 to do it properly – to act cute like becky taught them. G shows up in a panda outfit, but they all think G is becky. She tells the panda how bad the oppas are – if they keep that up the business will fail. she tells the panda to show them how to do it right so they can follow along. she turns on music and the panda dances like crazy. So the other 3 follow. Kids enjoy the show.

T’s dad asks if T dismissed the wedding models for tonight’s program cuz the aunt is upset that T got rid of everyone. the aunt comes over and asks how T could do this to her. she told T many times to be good to her friend’s son. T: there were better models so it couldnt be helped aunt. T’s dad says next time but she says never mind. She feels snubbed and says if everyone ignores what she says then she will be lonely.

The aunt meets with some man. she says she was in the area and dropped by. you were here for 2 yrs so that is enough so go back up to seoul and beg unni (chairman) for a job. But he doesn’t want to cuz he made the company lose a lot of money so he thinks protecting this place is the right place for him with these dogs. she says stop talking about dogs. she didnt come all this way cuz she likes the saunas here. she could just go to her neighborhood one. from tm on I am going to go to the sauna. she closes the window and says I am so lonely.

Chairman is worried about using models with lack of experience for the wedding program tonight and asks if they think that is ok. so T’s dad says it makes you feel uneasy doesnt it – it would be better to hire more experienced models even now.  S comes in with drinks. T says I have confidence for tonight’s wedding show so please just stand by and watch. if we use our company’s employee as a model, it will feel more real. chairman asks which employee are you going to put the wedding dress on. T says secretary Hong would be good grandmother.   chairman tells S to wear a wedding dress tonight and get married. S says I cant so chairman jokes “then at my age should I do that?”

S asks why T did that  -making her wear a wedding dress and film for the home shopping without telling her but he suddenly hugs her. S: what if someone sees. T: tell them to look – I am the owner of this company so why should I care what others think. she says he isnt the owner of the company. T: I will be soon.

H shows up and asks mimi if she can do this without telling the owner. Mimi says they almost sold all the strawberries. H: you suffered a lot cuz of me. mimi says how becky did all this. look at that panda – it’s becky.  really seems crazy. H looks at the panda and is grateful. Suddenly the panda passes out. H asks are you ok becky and the panda motions and passes out. mimi thinks becky was exhausted and passed out and calls out for help. H says I will go to the security office.  Y says put becky on my back and he carries the panda.  M and S take off their heads too. guard says come follow me. the crowd thinks the guys are good looking.

The guard tells Y to lay the panda down. he says how the panda is tired so they need to take the costume off and the clothes, but Y wont let him do that saying she is a lady.

Y goes out to meet H. he tells her lady becky is inside. H asks how she is. G took his head off and was fanning himself. he hears H telling Y to tell mimi she doesn’t have to sell anymore and to go home with the guys. G puts his head back on.

H comes in and says becky is sitting up. are you ok? G nods yes. she says to take off that costume and drink some water. but G wont let her. H: you shouldnt have overworked yourself and fainted.  She holds “her” hand and says thank you becky I really wont forget. G pulls his hand away. H: Do you remember 2 yrs ago when we first met at the rooftop home– it was your first time coming to Korea and I wasnt used to Korea too so we had a hard time. back then we drank a lot of soju. Ever since then I inconvenienced you a lot. she takes his hand again. H: what do I do – I am sorry to you. I might end up leaving before I can pay you back for your kindness. I am going to leave rooftop. I decided to settle the rooftop and go back to America.

The panda stands and faces away. H: sorry I was a fool and lost the check so this is what happened. it cant be helped. Also don’t tell the 4 rooftop men what I just said – I will tell them at the right time. panda walks out

Becky runs over and asks what happened. Did you sell a lot of strawberries. Are you mad you had to wear the costume in my place. G just walks off after giving back the costume head. becky: what could I do when they suddenly told me to come in cuz there was work. it’s hard for me to earn a living too.

S is working in a wedding dress and T says the bride is really busy on her wedding day. S: this is cuz of you. T: then work hard. T whispers to meet him for a while

When she goes he says this dress doesn’t look that great – it doesnt suit you. S: is that why you called – to say that. he does a magic trick and shows her the ring and slips it on her finger. T: next time will you wear the wedding dress I choose and will you marry me. He says after the event today let’s tell the elders about us -that’s ok right? S: yes do as you wish. he picks her up and twirls her.

Chairman is walking around the show area. T’s dad lists the wedding hall, limo, 4night5 day trip to hawaii they are selling this whole luxury package at home shopping. how T’s idea is impressive. the other guy says also this isnt at a studio – it’s a live show outside and how great T’s idea was. She says make sure not to make mistakes in final preparations. cuz this is a chance to show the customers that their home shopping has been upgraded a level.

The rooftop is having a party. H pours soju for M and says thank you very much for today. you were really cool. then she pours for C saying you really worked hard. you were totally cute. then she pours for Y saying it was hard on you wasnt it. eat a lot. you were the best. she says cheers but G has to pour his own drink. mimi gives H the money they made today. they clap and H thanks them. H says I will never forget the kindness I got from all of you today. I will be sure to pay you back over time. G yells :when are you going to pay that back. where are you going to pay that back. since you cant answer, isnt it a lie? G walks off

Becky invites G inside for a cup of coffee but G asks do you have anything sweet instead of coffee. The tv is on and she tells him to sit. she hands him banana milk and asks if he likes sweet things. he watches the home tv show. Becky is on there so G says isnt that girl in there you. she says yes that is where she went during the day today to film that. She changes the channel and the wedding show is on for home shopping. G watches S walking down the stage. Becky says she is going to tell H the truth that she didn’t dance in the panda outfit and that it was G. but G asks what those two people are doing now. Becky says they are getting married. should I tell H? G says marry? becky: when a man and woman like each other and live together, have a baby, and raise it. do you like H by any chance? G says do you mean the princess is getting married. she cant. Where is that place.

Chairman watches the show and a man comes over and says the show is a hit. T’s dad says T did this. Chairman says to T: you worked hard. T: thank you grandmother.

G pulls up in a cab and runs over to the stage area.

they announce everything they prepared today has been sold out.

S goes over to T and says the ring is really pretty. T says in my eyes you were prettier today. S: that is so corny. I heard it was sold out -what did the chairman say. He says for the first time, today he got a sincere compliment from grandmother. thanks to you. S: I didn’t do anything. She says she will go change and come back. T says come downstairs

He hears her yell and G is asking her -what are you doing. don’t you know me princess. look at me. It’s me. T goes over and punches him. G falls into the water. T remembers how TY fell like that.

H opens the tin can and finds a sketch of herself with a yellow butterfly on a postcard. Flashback. She remembers how a coworker said someone left this with me- (this drawing) it looks like you. it said meet me at 7pm by the dock so she had waited for that person. Some girls picked up TY’s phone by mistake cuz they looked alike so they wanted H to return his phone when he came and have H call them at that number they gave when H gets their phone back.  (*that means the photos with T and TY will be on that phone)

Rescue was called and they search the water for G’s body. They take him out of the water and chairman tells T to follow in the ambulance. She asks S to call for the car so they can follow the ambulance. G is getting oxygen. T is nervous

At the hospital, they take G in and he is not conscious. The doctors do CPR on him. (shouldnt they have done that at the accident site)

In the water, G’s voice narrates: Who am I – am I alive now or dead. who is TY who looks just like me.  who is the girl who looks just like the crown princess. is this reincarnation. were we reborn? the princess was reborn. I must have died and was reborn as TY.  if I was reincarnated as TY then why am I here. where is TY. Did I come here to take TY’s place (as TY’s reincarnated self). The doctor works on reviving G but says G isnt coming back. he pronounces G dead at 10:30pm . The nurse takea the leads out and starts to cover him and suddenly there is heartbeat. Nurse says his vitals came back.

H is waiting outside. Becky asks if anything happened  and H says G didn’t come back yet. Becky says don’t worry too much.while watching tv he said he suddenly had to go so I gave him cab fare and wrote down your address and number so he will be back. H walks down wondering where he went. she tries to get a cab

Chairman says thank goodness. the heavens helped us. I thought a young person was going to die. his dad says we almost died and came back too. she says to T: Do you know you almost killed a person. T: I am sorry. She says we have to take responsibility for that young man till the end and help him recover.  look into a private room for him. S: yes chairman.

Nurse tells T and S there is an empty private room and will move the patient. she asks them to write down patient and guardian’s info like names, address, and contact number. T says we aren’t his guardian. The victim was in an accident

Nurse goes through G’s pockets and finds the address written on it and asks another nurse maybe we can find out contact info for the patient. the other one says to check into it

H gets a call in the cab. H: hello. yes it’s me. At the hospital? Why? What happened

Chairman tells T’s dad to wait here cuz I will go back up to the patient’s room for a bit. he offers to go and asks what’s going on. but she says I need to confirm something so wait. H gets in the same elevator with her and they pressed the same floor

Chairman tells T and S that H is the victim’s guardian so show her the way. why are you two just standing there. T tells H: come over here -it’s this way. Grandma says she briefly explained the accident to H on the elevator so you tell the details to her. S just stands there so chairman asks are you listening to me. S: yes chairman

They all go down the hall to G’s room.

G is sitting there and he says: grandmother, it’s me. I am Tae Yong.

End

T asks G: what are you saying right now.what are you?

the 3 guys wave goodbye to H as they get in the car to go live with the chairman. G looks over at her and he is dressed really well finally in a great leather jacket.

T’s dad asks T: maybe he really is TY. T: there is no way that is him. I am 100% sure he is a fake. from the beginning he planned this aiming for TY’s empty spot.

at night, C finds the sauce you put on omurice. (ketchup) he has it all over his mouth so it looks like blood so it scares the grandma and makes her faint

someone is wearing a white facial mask at night so the guys think she is a ghost and all of them faint -including tough guy Y

S throws water in H’s face and says: Keep your mouth shut. why – so you can lie with that mouth again? arent you supposed to be on a flight back to america now

G: we have two problems in front of us we need to figure out. for the time being, it’s what we can do. M and them mention something about coming to senses.

So…what do we think happened at the end? Is G confused, is he “possessed”, or is he pretending? It seems like he has one of those weird drama cases of half-amnesia where his memories previous to the accident are causing him to believe something that isn’t true, but he could also be constructing an elaborate charade to get closer to S and find a spot for himself since he thinks H is leaving the Rooftop.

The bigger question is how long this is going to keep up. Is he going to speak normally and get a haircut now? Will he leave the rooftop? H of course will see a photo of him on that phone, and it’ll be interesting she where that leads her. Since she was supposed to meet TY she should be able to piece everything together, but it doesn’t seem like that sort of thing is really her forte.  I’m not sure what she’s thought of the boys until now, but it’s probably something like, “They could be from the past or they could be crazy or ill, but either way, I don’t mind”. I like that she’s so accepting of them, and in a strange way I think she’s enjoyed taking them all under her wing. She’ll probably be a little disappointed if she thinks that G is suddenly heir to a big company.

It’s too bad that S and T won’t end up married because they really are perfect for each other. As soon as G becomes heir I’m sure she’ll ditch T in a heartbeat, and that will probably leave T in an even more dark and desperate place (and he’s already a bit on the murderous side).

I’m still not quite sure how all the romantic relationships are going to form (and which will be genuine) but now it seems like even the aunt is added to the mix. It looks like she has a crush on that man (in an angry teenager sort of way) and I can’t quite decide if her story is being fleshed out because she’s a fun actress to watch, or because it’s going to tie into everything else. It also sometimes seems like T is starting to like H, but maybe I’m just picking up on the wrong vibes (since it seems like he genuinely wants to marry S).

I’m not sure I fully understand the deal S made with H. If H is going to leave the US, then why does she even need to borrow the money from S? If she’s leaving, she won’t want the store anyways, right? The money is still in her bank account, so it’s not like she’s actually lost anything. Would she have to pay some sort of fine if she didn’t pay for the store, because she’s breaching a contract or something?

Despite this episode being a little heavier on the drama side of things, it still had plenty of humor and cute moments to keep me entertained. Today my favorite moment was C washing that car.  I love when I already expect something to be funny or ridiculous, and then it blindsides me with an extra dose of absurdity.

It’s nice to look forward to a drama each week because it’s light and fun, but also because I genuinely want to know where the story is going and care about the characters. I wouldn’t mistake Rooftop Prince for a Hong Sisters drama because the styles are different, but it leaves me with a similar feeling and has a lot of the same ingredients that make for a great rom-com. The drama scene is pretty crowded and competitive right now, but I still hope that Rooftop sees a well-deserved ratings bump.
