When I began this drama, I expected a lot of cute and hilarious scenes, but I didn’t expect it to retain the heart of the story itself. G might be a fish out of water in 2012, but the part of him that is tied to his home has not changed one bit. When he stood there crying remembering his heartache, it made me realize even if he somehow could go back, he would still pursue the people behind the death of his beloved princess. Only this time, I bet he will go back armed with more knowledge than he left with. As H teaches him the ways of this world to adapt and adjust, she is also giving him life lessons that may serve him well when he goes back. By learning to work and not just have people serve him and by putting aside his pride to speak to people more cordially, this emotionally stunted prince just might become a much better monarch in the process. Who knew H’s constant nagging could change the destiny of one king.

Starts from G coming down with the grandma who tells T that TY is back. G looks at T and T remembers punching out TY and TY falling into the water. She asks where TY has been to come this late -tell us. G pulls his arm away and says look here old woman – you got the wrong person. She asks what that means – why would I not know you. look at me carefully – it’s me. what happened to you for you to be like this. you came home correctly so why are you like this. look at my face – it’s me. look at me. he pulls her hands away and asks what are you doing. He asks why she is like this when it’s the first time he has seen her. so how could she be his grandmother. she asks why he is like this. it’s me your grandmother. come to your senses. she hits him and held onto him so he pushes her away telling her to move so T asks who are you and grabs G

S hears from H that she came to move the stuff. S: why are you doing that -why did you come here? H: I heard from mother that you asked her to do that so I came cuz mother asked me to as a favor. S: mom made a mistake. dont worry about it and just take your truck and leave. H: I didnt come cuz I wanted to – it was as a favor but you want me to leave as soon as I arrived. S says hurry and leave. They hear G calling for Y so Y runs inside and other two follow him. H wonders what’s going on again and goes after them.

Y runs inside and tells T to stop cuz T had shoved G against the wall. Y pulls T away from G and throws T against the glass case. grandma faints. C and M show up and Y tells them to protect G so they take G outside. They escort him out as H goes inside. H: what to do. T waves her away to leave

In the truck, H is yelling at G. H: what is this. instead of working you fight. what are you going to do if they ask for us to pay for damages. she repeats the words G always uses (speaking down to people) if you do that you think a fight wont break out. I told you not to talk like that to other people. he tells her to stop talking. she yells back: did you not hear what I have been saying all this time? are you deaf? I told you not to do those things. G: I told you you are being loud. he threatens – are you only going to shut that mouth if I rip it out.  she stops the car and sticks out her mouth and says go ahead and tear it. G backs up and asks what she is doing and to move her lips away. she warns him -listen carefully. from here on if you speak down to people I will not stand for it. I mean it. (cuz G keeps speaking to people informally even though they are older which makes him seem really rude). the other 3 watched all that and hold their heads down saying your majesty cuz they feel bad he has to be yelled at by her, but there is nothing they can do about it. G sees the light turn green so he points to it and says what are you doing not going when it’s green.

Grandma asks if T is in his right mind. How could he fight with TY when TY came home. T tries to say he wasn’t TY but she says how could he not be TY -anyone can see it’s TY-he even found his way home. during that time something must have happened to him so that is why he cant remember. dont you know that. we should have held onto him and spoken to him more slowly so how could you fight.  you chased him away. he tries to say again that person is not TY but she says hurry and find TY right now. go and find him.  she changes her mind and says secretary hong (S) called the movers -call sec Hong and tell her to come right now. T says yes and goes out

S asks why is the chairman looking for me. did something happen inside. T tells S to go inside and you will know. I will leave first. T drives away

Grandma says to S -find the young man who was here a while ago. go and find him. S asks who she is talking about. grandma says you contacted the movers. S: yes that is correct. grandma says out of the men who came to work, there was a young man who came into my home first. go find him and bring him here. hurry and find him and bring him. what are you doing not hurrying. S says she will

H is going through the recycle bin and holds up clothes for them to see if it fits. she shoves G away and tells Y to come over and says these clothes are like new. she says it fits his shoulders perfectly and tells him to wear this. Y seems bashful and says I will do that. she calls M over and asks how about this – do you like it? M says he likes the track suit he is wearing now, but she says since the 4 of them are all wearing the same clothes people look at them strangely. she says wear the tracksuit at home and wear this outside. she says how good it looks on him and how it brings out his features so M agrees to it.  C chooses an outfit that is sparkly and yellow. she asks if he likes this. C wants to change into it now so she says you cant change here and tells him later over there. She calls over to G “hey high up person -arent you going to choose clothes. choose something” G turns and starts to say should I find some clothes that suit me but she cuts him off and says it wont matter if one person wears a tracksuit. she says to the others: let’s move onto the next place and find pants and shoes. follow me. Y thinks clothes here are for free. M asks C: dont you think this is too sparkly but C says is there anything bad about being sparkly. dont you think it’s better living here than Joseon.

She finds shoes that fit them. C is running towards them wearing a down jacket that is losing stuffings as C runs. C is carrying black ugg boots and says I found shoes for a king. the others clap and G seems pleased.

T remembers where he saw H. he called a man to ask a personal favor and told him to look into a girl who does deliveries at the Shin shim chung wah and to keep this quiet (under wraps)

H tells the guys to go inside and change in the men’s bathroom and come back out, but they get lost. G mutters why she is making them change in a bathroom and asks the others where it is. The elevator opens so Y steps inside and M explains these are automatic doors that open and close on their own that we learned about yesterday. C thinks this place is ok to change cuz it’s enclosed so G says ok that’s fine. let’s go inside. Y offers to change with their backs to G so G can change more comfortably. they start to change. The elevator stops at a floor where women are doing aerobics and the guys scream cuz they are half dressed when the doors open. G asks what those people were doing. C says before the doors open again we should hurry. They scramble to put their clothes back on and the next floor is in front of some students who take their pics. the girls say daebak and call the guys perverts. the guys get food thrown at them.

H goes to the reception desk and asks did you happen to see 4 strange men in this building. The guy points to the monitor and she sees the 4 changing in the elevator.

When she waits for them by the elevator G yells where were you and why are you showing up just now. They all act like they are upset at each other. *I swear this music is the same one for MGIAG – must be the same guy.

In the car G yells at her to stop the car. Cuz they passed the palace he wanted to get to but she says why again. he yells I told you to stop the car. we passed the palace. if we were going to pass it why didnt you tell me sooner. hurry and stop the car.  H: I am really really busy now. she says no way and keeps driving. he tries to ask in a more sincere tone by asking softly- you really can’t? : my answer is…

she pours water on his face through a glass window. She brought them to a place that is going to be her new store and tells G: are you not going to work. hurry and wipe it. G ignores her so she goes out and says if you work hard, I will take you to the palace. G: do you really mean that? she says you cant just sort of work- you must work really hard for me to take you to the palace. G: dont worry,  I will work really hard.  G goes inside and tries to work but the others wont let him. G asks what he needs to do. he asks M for the mop but M wont give it. he asks how to use it but they stop him. C promises to work harder in his place. Y asks why are you like this. M says we were wrong – we wont goof around and work harder. but G says that’s not it – I said I will work hard so why are you guys like that. He tells Y to move out of the way. why are you standing around. hurry and clean so the place sparkles.   The four of them start cleaning better

S’s mom gets mad at S. is it my fault my phone didn’t work. it’s too old and no one will buy it for me even though my birthday is the day after tm. so is it my fault my phone didnt work. S says I asked you to do me a favor and you make H do it. her mom asks why – did H make any mistakes while moving the stuff.  S says never mind – talk about it later. she asks where to go to meet H right now. her mom says use your phone that works well to call H but S says H is not picking up my calls now – so annoying. where do I have to go to meet her

T watches from outside and sees H and the 4 guys working. G cut his finger and M tells him to elevate his finger over his head to stop the bleeding. H says to put pressure on the cut and I will go to the pharmacy.

H goes and gets band aid. She tells the pharmicist how a new fruit and veggie store has opened and asks him to take care of her well.

H comes out and sees T. T: we are meeting again here. he asks what brings her here. she says I work here and says sorry for a while ago.

S pulls up and walks by – G is standing there holding his finger up waiting for H to come back

H repeats what T said about compensating for damages. the people who went to work a while go brought broke those things in the house so of course I have to cuz those things must have been expensive.  I dont know how much I have to reimburse you.  but T says that isnt it – I meant you dont have to reimburse us.  H: I dont have to compensate? I will take care of that on my own. he asks about the red tracksuit guy.  was he called to help out with the moving?  She says no –  he works for me. T mentions how G went inside the home first on his own so did he know that home?  she says that person doesnt know if this place is hangyang or seoul. she changes her answer and says of course it’s the first time he went there.  I told him to go in first.   T says she might get a call about compensation so she should say she doesnt know about that man. H: you want me to say I dont know? T says the amount of compensation will be a lot so tell them you dont know how to contact that man or anything about him. then I can take care of things.  He gives her a generous VIP gift certificate for a department store’s grand opening promotion from his company. she says she cant accept cuz she feels bad but he says it’s ok take it. *This is T’s way of making sure H doesnt give out info about G by scaring her into thinking the other people want to contact her to make her pay compensation

S walks by G and they dont see each other. S finds H and asks  why arent you taking my calls? H: did you call? I left my phone in the truck. S where the red tracksuit guy is. H says I dont know. S: you brought him so why wouldnt you know? give me his contact info. H: I dont know how to contact him or his name or where he lives. I only hired him to move the stuff just for today I dont know where he is now. I am busy so I will be going now. about mother’s birthday the day after tm, I told her what time and where to meet. I will be going

H puts bandaid on G’s cut and says it wont hurt now. it’s the best thing for cuts. after you put it on it gets better quickly. he wiggles his finger so she asks – it doesnt hurt already huh? he acts like a big baby and says it hurts

T asks S: did you get into a lot of trouble with the chairman? S: is it my fault she (H) doesnt know that person’s contact info? if she doesnt know what am I supposed to do. did that man who wore the red tracksuit really look exactly like your cousin? T explains just like when she said she saw someone similar at the hospital but later said she saw incorrectly so it’s like that now so you need to be understanding of my grandmother. S: I am ok as long as everything works out for you. T says in the summer let’s ask for vacation and go to england. she asks why. he says to meet her mom at london university (cuz S lied about her mom living in London-guess S lied about her whole background) S says when my mother comes to korea then you can meet her. he thinks it’s better to go and meet her first. in the summer we are going to london.

H is teaching the guys to read. she hits Y and tells him not to sleep.

H takes G to the palace. She says I promised so I came but since the other 3 are waiting at home, you have to quickly look around and then we have to leave. H looks around his old home. He is wearing those ugg boots. He walks to the pond and remembers how he used to walk across the bridge with the princess and how her body was found in the water. He is crying when H comes over with drinks.

He looks over and sees her. he wipes his eyes. She tells him to drink and mentions how far the store was. He drinks some and makes a face.He asks what this drink is. She says coffee.  He says it’s bitter and tells her to take it back cuz it makes his eyes water. She gets a call from some owner and says -really? you want me to go now? I will go right away. thank you.

They are trying to take the train but G is walking slowly so she tells him to hurry and come. i said we are late so what are you doing. she hits him and says I cant send you home alone. hurry and come along cuz we were almost late.

during the train ride, H teaches him how to speak politely. repeat what I say. she says all these things using polite -jondaemal speech. “you did? please give it to me. is this it? that is it.” G: you are being loud. she says he way he speaks is the reason why he goes to other people’s home and fights. She wonders if she should ask and asks why he cried a while ago at the palace. he is alarmed and asks “did you see that?” H: you didnt cry just a little you had tears flowing down so how could I not see that? He says he cried cuz of the coffee he drank. She says it was before he drank the coffee. He says you cant tell the others no matter what. you cant tell them I cried.  She takes advantage of this and teaches him to be polite again. H: when you speak to others, you have to be nice. try it. she bows her head and says hello politely. She tells him to order boiled eggs and sprite politely from the young lady who is coming towards them. G: I dont want to – are you trying to teach me right now. She threatens then should I tell them you cried? G quickly calls for the girl.  G orders the way H taught him in a girl’s voice too. H: how much is it? G repeats that in a girl’s voice too

After they get off the train she calls and finds out where they need to go -like directions. she tells him to stop scowling. G asks why she dragged him so far away. She walks off and mutters: did I drag you? you stuck to me and came. if you dont like it then go back up to seoul. oh that’s right. you dont know the way. he promises I will make you shut that mouth one day

H talks to the man at the strawberry patch and he says how the owner told him to only take half the price of the strawberries from her. she says how she is opening her store and wanted to do a half price sale.  she asks if these are the strawberries she is supposed to take but he says hers is separate. he takes her over to another place and asks if she came alone.

G and H look at all the strawberries they have to pick. G asks if she is joking right now. do you want me to pick all these strawberries. have you lost your mind already? are you talking crazy? she tries to get him to be quiet cuz that other man is standing there listening.  H asks the man to lend them some help cuz even if they picked the strawberries all night they couldnt do it just the two of them. but the man says if she gets labor the cost of the strawberries wont be half. he asks if she didnt hear from the owner cuz he told him to tell her to bring some people with her. before he walks away, he says pick as many as the two of you can and pack it up. I cant give you anything else other than what you picked.

G says to her: you better get this in your head, I wont pick these strawberries so just know that. H: I am saying this clearly – if you dont pick the strawberries, I will kick you out of the rooftop home. they glare at each other.

She is picking strawberries alone. She stand and says how her back hurts. and how after asking him to pick these together, he only picked ten and took off.  she tells herself she will kick him out once they get back to seoul no matter what

G went for a walk. He tried to touch a sign and it falls and breaks. The people come out and G says “I didn’t do it” in informal speech. then he speaks politely and says “really- I didn’t touch it – it fell and broke on its own. The old people don’t look like they believe him

H gets mad and says I cant put up with this. today I am going to remodel this person. she stops walking and says: why shoudl I remodel that person. it’s the end now. he is going to move out. she turns back to work.

G is surrounded by a bunch of old people. G writes with a brush and ink. They seem amazed he can write like that. flashback to his time when other scholars complimented how well G writes. The strawberry man -Lee says how well G writes. the old men say to each other if Lee says it’s great writing then it really is. cuz Lee is the son of the man who wrote the original one so of course his son knows what’s great writing. G wrote the sign again.

H is putting strawberries into baskets and G comes over eating a popsicle and asks is this what they call an ice bar. it is sweet and cool. it tastes good. He gives her one but she knocks it to the ground. she says this is how she lives – earning a living using her arms and legs but he doesnt even lift a finger. if you are such a precious (important-high up) person, why are you living off of me. She shoves him out of the way and says as soon as we go back to seoul you better move out. Suddenly people come in to help pick strawberries. Lee compliments G on writing well and tells H to thank the owner for him.  G finishes his popsicle and picks up the one on the ground and opens it to eat it.

H and G are at a small amusement park. H bought G cotton candy. G says this is sweet and soft and tastes good. H says since they finished packing up the strawberries earlier than expected -since they have to wait for the train to arrive, they are here killing time. G: you said that already a while ago so why say that again. H: so you will know for sure. H goes over to a machine to try to pick up dolls and drop it into the slot. she misses her first try. G says it’s like fishing. she barely misses it and almost got it.  so this time G wants to try it. she tells him to say that politely so he says “let me try it once please.” She lets him. He misses. She gives him another coin. She instructs him on how to do it and they win one and get all happy.

G: what would you have done without me. You would still be picking strawberries now and having a hard time. if I didnt interfere would you have gotten help. he repeats her words back to her. but what did you say with that mouth? that I was an precious person who is living off of you. didnt you say a person needs to know their limits (and not ask too much) I am going to give all those words back to you.

She wants to teach him a lesson so she asks if he doesn’t want to eat something sweet. G: ok where is the sweet item. She shows him balloons and asks if he can see those round things floating. he asks if you can eat that. she says you don’t eat the cover, you swallow the air inside and it is sweet. G: is that so – let me taste it. H: you want to taste it? G: yes hurry and go and buy it. She makes him inhale the gas saying it’s sweet and makes him talk funny. G sounds like a chipmunk as he says: it isnt sweet. What is wrong with my voice. She laughs at him. G: what did you do. She says it’s time for the train.

Mimi and Becky are with the guys Y, M, and C. Mimi says H asked them to feed the guys. Becky asks how long it’s been since they came to Korea.  Y: it hasnt been that long. Becky: it hasnt been that long since H came too. which country are you from? C: are you going to believe us if we said we came from joseon. M: you wont know even if we tell you which country. Mimi gets a call from H. she puts it on video and tells H that they were in the middle of eating. should I put them on the phone?  mimi gives the phone to the 3 guys. when the 3 of them see G they get on their knees and M asks –your majesty why are you inside there

On the train ride back H falls asleep and leans her head on G’s shoulder. he tries to push her head away with one finger, but she does it again and he cant do anything cuz the couple in front of him are giving him looks.

H and S’s mom are at the department store grand opening. H tells her to choose any of the lotions. The mom asks do you know how much this is and saying you will buy it for me. H looks and says it’s really expensive. the mom says let’s go before people arrive. H shows the gift certificate she got from T and says with this it’s free so if there is anything you want to buy choose it. the mom is happy and asks when did you prepare this.

S and T are walking by and T sees H and asks S “isnt that the dongsang” but S already ran off.

T goes over and says we meet again. H says hello and explains she came to use the gift certificate. it’s embarrassing. T: did you come alone? H: no with my mother. but the mom is gone. T gets called so he tells her to choose something good. she thanks him. she wonders where the mom went

S dragged her mom out. The mom asks what is going on for S to drag her out, but S tells her to be quiet. hurry and let’s go. mom: go where. what about H. S says let’s just go to the restaurant first (they are meeting for the mom’s birthday party)

In the car S asks why H keeps showing up in front of me. is she not going back to America. if she was adopted there then she should live there, why come back here.  last year she said she would go back. The mom says think about it.  H has the store so why would she leave. S asks for a favor -this time you have to do this for me.

H gives the mom the present and wishes her a happy bday. The mom asks her: did you put everything I chose a while ago. H: I also put a few more small ones. the mom says you did well. you must not have money after setting up your store so how could you afford to make reservations here. the mom asks how did you manage to save up for the down payment of a store that costs $65,000. H explains how she has loans here and there and now she has the money for the payment and will be dropping it off today. S says I will go to the bathroom but her mom says I need to go and asks H to help her to go to the bathroom cuz her leg still hurts. H says yes and knocks her tote over so part of an envelope is visible. S sees that (and steals the check for $40,000 that H has to pay for her new store down payment)

When they are alone the mom says to tell you the truth, I had something to say to you so S was going to leave us alone to talk. but I had to use the bathroom so we came out here. H: what did you want to say.  the mom asks: is there a man who wore a red tracksuit. H: yes. mom: she said it’s not to make you compensate for the damaged goods at all. S’s company’s chairman is after S asking S to bring the red tracksuit guy. S suddenly leaves. When the mom asks where she is going S says I have urgent work at the office so I will be leaving first. the mom asks H: Please listen to S’s favor for my sake.

the aunt is acting cute so grandma says my head hurts. Grandma gets a call that S found the guy who wore the red tracksuit. grandma: what? is that for real?

T hears that and his dad calls T’s name. T: father did grandma come to the office just now. his dad says yes. they found the guy who resembles TY. that person is coming to the office now. they said Secretary hong is bringing him now so that is why I was going to the office now. T goes running to look for S

T finds S and asks if that guy is coming. She says she is going to meet him and take him to the office. T offers to stay and escort the guy and tells her to check how the fashion show preparation is going cuz my father is curious. she leaves it up to him to take G to the chairman.

H shows up with G. H says if you go inside there will be a woman waiting and follow her and she will take you to meet the grandmother chairman. G: ok but you have to keep your promise. H says dont worry- sorry for making you do this.

Grandma is waiting with T’s dad and welcomes G and invites him to sit. T’s dad says he is exactly like TY. secretary asks the chairman what drinks she should prepare so G tells the secretary he doesn’t drink coffee so give me something sweet. Grandma asks what his name is. G says Lee Gak. she asks what he does for a living. G: I am here looking for someone. She asks who are you looking for. He says the crown princess. T’s dad jokes and says your majesty and laughs.  grandma asks do you really not know me. dont you remember me. G: I told you that before that i didnt know you. T’s dad says right now you are looking for someone but 2 yrs where and what were you doing. G: if it’s two years ago, Joseon…G stops talking. [G remembers how H told him not to mention joseon or anything about your past if those people ask cuz those people wont understand what you are saying. got that? G: I told you I did. H: if you do well, I make you omurice for dinner. G: you promised.] G tells T’s dad how can anyone remember what happened 2 yrs ago. I dont remember. G asks what this drink is called. T’s dad says yogurutu. Grandma cries so G tells her I am not the person you are looking for so dont suffer. She says look here young man. it doesnt matter who you are. it doesnt matter if you arent him. She takes his hand and asks couldnt you be my grandson TY?  The aunt says you didnt want to meet this young man to do this. grandma cries.

T takes G out and says don’t worry about grandma too much. She is like that cuz she lost her grandson and her heart got weaker. G: ok. T offers money for cab fare but G says there is no need. This is plenty. They gave him a whole pack of yogurutu. T tells him to go well.

G walks out drinking it. he stops to watch a swimsuit fashion show. he tries to avert his eyes but cant stop ogling.

He notices S in the background and drops his drink and calls out princess. He runs on stage and heads toward S. he hugs her. she pushes him away and slaps him. He calls out princess and he gets dragged out by security. G: let go of me. He asks don’t you know me. Princess.

H tells them she is leaving the rooftop home. for the rest of my life I wont forget.  G: where do you think you are going. arent you lying?

The highlight of the episode for me was the way Y stuck out his bum in the elevator. That probably makes it seem like I didn’t care for the episode, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. That snapshot just really cracked me up. Maybe it’s because I’ve recently watched that actor in Ojakgyo Brothers and White Christmas, but the absurdity of that pose combined with the expression on his face was absolutely priceless.

Curing someone’s prince-syndrome is hard to begin with, but it must be borderline impossible with an actual prince, and I admire the progress that H has made so far. I also admire G for letting H man-handle him so much. Yes, he is relying on her, and he frequently talks down to her, but I’m sure that where he comes from she would have been put to death about 100 times over by now.

I don’t get the impression that G is actually ok with being rude or disrespectful; it’s just that his behavior has never been deemed inappropriate before (since he was royalty). I found it quite telling when he let H sleep on his shoulder because he cared what the elderly couple across from them thought. I also like that even though H and G are spending “quality” time together, it doesn’t actually feel romantic yet. The whole shoulder sleeping scenario has been beaten to death at this point, so I loved that this drama switched it up and had him give in for the sake of his image, rather than out of sympathy or attraction.

If I were the boys, the first thing I would do is grab some history books and try to find out what happened to G in the past. I wouldn’t be surprised if M thought of that soon, but I’m not sure if it’ll actually happen since that will drag the drama into dangerous time-travel-territory where butterfly effects and other other mind-bending scenarios need to be taken into consideration. It might be more enjoyable for everyone if such things are ignored.

I do wonder if our four boys will ever go into the past again though. It doesn’t seem unlikely since there are still royal mysteries to be solved, but I hope that they all ultimately end up in the present. So far I think that G is the only one who even wants to go back, and despite his snobbery I do feel the worst for him since he seemingly left the most behind (nothing that some modern-day love can’t fix!).

As far as plot progression goes, I think we’ll be playing ring around the rosie for a bit, with all the main players wondering, “Is he?”, “Isn’t she?” and trying to stay on top. The sad truth is that TY is dead, and someone needs to inherit the company. Surely it can’t be T, so maybe it will be G! It would be rather sweet if he developed a relationship with the grandma despite not being related. At this point I’m most curious to see what T and S get up to. It doesn’t seem like much is beneath either of them, so I’m sure anything is possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point an “accident” was arranged for one of the leads.

So far I’m really enjoying the mix that this drama has to offer. It’s just plain refreshing and fun to watch, and even though I feel invested and there’s a bit of melodrama involved, it never feels heavy. Even the music and visuals are a pleasant surprise, and I still never get sick of watching the boys. As long as the writers don’t run out of ideas, I think this is going to be one great show.
