Uncontrollably Fond: E14

Temptation is tricky. In a way, you still have some semblance of control. You can choose to act on your impulse or not. It’s right in front of you so all you have to do is make up your mind and reach out. It’s right at your fingertip, and yet it’s so far if you allow your conscience to factor in. It didn’t feel like Joon Young was holding back for her sake this time. He did it for himself. I think he knew if he allowed himself to let go and stop resisting the temptation to stay with her, he will never be able to stay away from her ever again. He doesn’t have any fight left in him to resist anymore. The desire to stay by her side gets stronger the closer he gets to his death.

written before it aired: It’s getting harder for Joon Young to hide his condition. Sooner or later Eul is going to realize what is going on. Then all those memories will come back to haunt her. Those times that Joon didn’t act normal. She might remember how he struggled to walk when she was taken away by the police in that parking garage. She will ask herself “why didn’t I see the signs? Why didn’t I see that he was backing away to protect me?” The answer to the second will leave her hollow and feeling helpless, but knowing how much strength she has, she might try to hold onto him so hard that even Joon can’t pull away.

Now that Joon’s mom knows that Joon is ill – doesn’t she owe it to Choi to tell him the truth about his son? Keeping Joon away all these years is one thing, but depriving Choi the chance to bond with him before Joon dies is another. Choi deserves punishment for what he did, but not getting the chance to know he has a biological son shouldn’t be one of them.

starts from Eul saying no matter what mean things you do I wont be hurt, sad, or misunderstand so keep doing as much as you want. Joon pushes her onto the bed and asks do you want to sleep with me – if you don’t want to sleep with me tell me now. I’ll open the door for you. she says I wont go out – i wont move one step and will be by your side. she closes her eyes. he gets off her and leaves the room and stands outside the door.

the restaurant is busy when Joon’s mom gets a call from him so she says I will call later but he says tell me 3 reasons why I cant. 3 reasons why Eul and I cant be (together). it’s cuz I suddenly cant remember and I told you everything mom. the mom tells him she is too busy and call later and hangs up.

Joon says into the phone: then I will go to Eul. if you forgot too mom and cant think of why then let’s act like there was nothing and I’ll go to Eul.

Joon watches her leave and then crouching down and remembers Ji tae telling him how if only Eul was able to take the USB to the broadcasting center five years ago- if you hadnt stolen that USB from her – how Eul told choi today is my dad’s memorial and how choi gave her money and how she almost ran choi over and how Joon told his mom that Eul remembered it all –  I thought it didnt bother her now but she was still living in hell

Joon dresses up and films himself. I am shin JY. a few months ago, I heard from my doctor that I wont be able to live very long. I was shocked, but people die.

Joon’s mom asks why Gook is washing dishes here. he says he quit being Joon’s manager. she asks why. Gook says he wont work with such a rude guy anymore and how could she raise a son like that. he tells her how mean Joon was to Eul. his dad hits him for making up stuff about Joon but Gook says you didnt see what happened. I’m not making it up. if you saw you would have beaten him up. I should have told him –   before becoming a star – become a human being first and kicked him in the butt. his dad hits him and says you should get beat by me. Gook hides behind his sister and asks if Joon and I both fell in the water at the same time – you would rescue Joon first huh? his dad asks are you an immature child? M agrees that Gook is an immature child cuz he gets jealous every time the uncle shows affection to Joon.  the mom yells for them to stop and asks what Joon did to Eul

Eul sits down with the teacher cuz she was called to the school cuz Jik doesnt want to go to college. the teacher thinks it’s a waste for him not to go cuz he has high grades so she called Eul. Jik comes in and says to his teacher – how could you call my sister- you said you would keep it a secret. she reminds him how he wanted to become a doctor but he says again he wont go to college. he has decided so Eul grabs his ear and says they will speak outside for a moment

Eul drags him outside and scolds him. have you gone crazy? why wont you go to college? who am I working to death for to earn money? are you in your right mind? Jik reminds him how busy she is just repaying the debts, so where is there money to send him to college? she claims to have a lot of money. Jik says if she has a lot of money then get them a home so he doesn’t have to live with his friend getting looks from his parents. she says i will find a home but he says if you have a lot of money then pay off their debt so you can stop fearing they will come looking so that we can live comfortably. she says I will do it all – get the home and pay the debt-I will handle everything. but he says if you get a home and pay off debts then I will go to college. don’t speak of college anymore. he walk off. she gets a call from choi’s wife

Joon spends time with his dog while taking his hanyak medicine. Joon watches him eat and says since Eul isn’t coming anymore live inside with me. Joon cant even pull a piece of yarn off him cuz his motor functions fail

his doctor calls and Joon says how nice the weather is. the doc says did you think about it – how about getting admitted today. Joon tries to grab for the yarn and says even if I do – I will die in the hospital. the doc says but if you get admitted and get treatment…Joon cuts him off and says – I will still end up dying in the hospital. doctor warns I cant just sit by like this as a doctor and will inform your family. Joon politely asks him not to make him meet him in court. I have something urgent so I will call again. he hangs up and finally manages to grab the yarn off the dog. the bell rings.

Joon asks what brings her to his home. JE asks why Joon sent her this (he gave her a key pendant) -I dont know why you sent me this but I have a fiancé. he says he didn’t only send it to her but everyone else including the director as an apology. it was too much for an apology. if you feel burdened by it then leave it and go. she says I was sorry and grateful cuz you kneeled in front of YH. Joon; if I didnt kneel you would have so I couldn’t let you for someone like him. he gives her a deep meaningful look. she gets up and says I will be going. before she leaves she turns and asks what did you say back then – at the pool when you rescued me? I think you said something. what did you say?  he says it’s a secret. she says tell me. he gets up and walks closer to her and says you said you have a fiance. JE: so? Joon: I said it cuz I didn’t know you had a fiancé. just forget it. she says so what – just tell me. he says drive carefully and goodbye

Ji tae is doing manual labor moving boxes. his former secretary comes over and helps and asks did you have to go this far. he calls him a disobedient son. Ji tae says I was told to go lower so I did – since she didn’t tell me to quit -I am suffering like this so I don’t quit. I obey my parents very well.  the guy asks if Ji tae intends to fight his mom. Ji tae tells him not to come anymore.  the guy tells him that he saw Eul come to the lobby of the company cuz the Ji tae’s mom called her. Ji tae: why would mom do that?

choi’s wife says Eul doesnt look well. did something bad happen? Eul: yes.  the wife says why would that happen when you have strong support that threatened I shouldn’t touch a hair on you or he wouldn’t stand still. Eul tells her I wont leave korea – I will stay here. the wife says a Korean should live in korea – who said anything. she calls for the secretary to bring it and an envelope is placed in front of Eul and the wife tells her it’s ten uk (a billion won)- I’ll keep it short – take this and return our Ji tae to his fiance. she lived only seeing Ji tae for 20 yrs  -so as a fellow woman – you shouldn’t do this.  what did she do wrong?  also it’s not like you like Ji tae. He shows up and says to his mom: I clearly told you not to do anything to Eul -that I wouldn’t sit still for it but his mom  says I did nothing but give her money. cant I even give money to a poor and pitiful girl? he is about to rip it up but Eul accepts the money and asks if the check isn’t fake so the wife says if you cant believe me then go to the bank and confirm it. Eul says since you gave it to me it should be okay. I will use it well and leaves

Ji tae chases her and says give the money back. you should be accepting their apology not their money. “I am sorry – I was wrong” but Eul says they wont apologize. even if the world turned upside down your parents wont apologize. even if I threw a fuss for the rest of my life – they wont ever apologize and now there is no one left to hear what I have to say -even if you say you will protect me –  to them it wont be a problem to step on someone like me. why would I fight them? when I know full well it’s a fight I will lose. I sold you for ten uk. It still doesn’t feel real how big an amount that is, but thanks to you I got a windfall. I will buy you expensive alcohol later. she walks off

Joon stares at JE from his window while she is standing on his dock.

he goes out and asks you didnt leave. she says how pretty the river is and how did he think of building a home in such a pretty place. Joon: aren’t you cold? the wind is very cold. JE: what is your relationship with eul. Joon: did you not leave to ask that? JE: it seems like Noh PD likes you a lot. Joon: I like Eul a lot too. That’s also why I punched YH -to avenge Eul. JE: then why did you act so cold and mean in front of her? Joon: cuz she is too pretty to have. cuz that upsets me. JE laughs and says that’s so funny. are you and Jitae both crazy?  how could you – to a bitch that isn’t even your level. Joon: watch how you speak -like I said before – she is someone I like a lot. she storms off and gets her heel stuck in a grate and falls down. he runs over and asks if she is ok. she says I am not okay. he takes his jacket off and covers her legs with it. he says I wont do anything but treat it so dont be surprised. her ankle is sprained so he carries her

Eul goes and tells Nari that she got her wish and brags that she got the lottery – ten uk. Eul asks what Nari wants to do if she had ten uk. Nari says I am busy working talk nonsense later at home. Eul asks again what she wants to do with ten uk so nari lists buying clothes, bags, shoes so Eul says I will buy you everything. all this time I imposed on you so I will by you everything

They go shopping. Nari cant believe she is buying these expensive things. Eul says all I have is money. nari cant believe how much the total is (around $8,000) and wonders what was so expensive and changes her mind and only wants one scarf. Eul tells her not to be tacky – this shop only sells luxury items. Eul tries to pay with the check but is told she cant do that (Eul lacks common sense cuz no store would have the change for that kind of money). Ji tae shows up and takes the check and tells the attendant to pay with his card. Nari calls him HW oppa so Eul says this person isn’t him. this person is choi Ji tae – choi’s son. he deceived us all that time. Nari asks what she is talking about. Ji tae tells the clerk to ring it up with his card but Eul says no don’t ring that up. she tells him – just go to your fiancé and stay out of others business. he gives back the check and says don’t spend a penny of this money and return it to my mom. who said you could sell me? am I only worth ten uk? also – did you only sell me with this ten uk? didn’t you sell your dad too? if you really want to sell properly -ask for all of my parent’s wealth. that way the amount matches.

Joon rubs ice pack on JE’s ankle. she says he is good at applying the ice pack. he says Eul falls down often.  she says I think I can walk now and tries to stand. he asks will you really be okay. she starts to pull out of his driveway but asks Joon to drive in her place cuz she cant press on the accelerator.

Joon drives her and she thanks him. he asks if she doesnt need to go the hospital. she says it will be okay after time cuz it’s only slightly sprained and cuz he put ice pack on her well. she asks how am I as a woman – am I attractive/am I charming? Joon: you probably do. JE: as much Eul – the one you love? Joon: it’s a different charm from you. JE: don’t you think of going for me? Joon: you have a fiancé. JE: that fiancé is only looking at that brat Eul. missing even the engagement. though everyone knows. Noh Eul is only looking at you as always and my fiancé Ji tae knows all that but like a dummy. She looks at him and says I want to steal you from Eul. so that the pain I felt he will feel it too exactly the same. I want Ji tae to realize how charming the woman he lost is. will I be able to do that?

Joon drops her off and says I don’t have to piggyback you right? cuz I cant have pics taken of piggybacking a woman. I left the key in the ignition so you can just get the car valet. take care of yourself.  he bows and walks off but she says you didn’t answer me. I said I wanted to steal you from Eul – if I could do that. joon says no I dont think you can and walks away. she stands there with her ego punctured

Joon takes a cab and asks the driver to make a U turn at the light. he goes to nari’s home and looks at the door but hides when someone comes out

nari comes out wondering why Eul isn’t picking up and making her worry.  She sees Eul getting out of a cab with lots of shopping bags. Eul asks her to help with the bags.  Joon watches them while hiding. Nar asks if Eul bought those things in the end.  Eul went to the bank and broke the check into smaller amounts. Nari doesn’t help so Eul says what are you doing  and not helping. Nari says you have gone crazy. you’ve gone insane. Eul thanks the driver. she tells nari all of this is yours. that one is for Jik. I even bought that dress you said was pretty but too expensive. nari: are you human? Eul: of course I’m human – would I be a doll? Nari: you received that money cuz you sold off your dad. you got that money from KJ group to overlook how unjustly your dad was treated. Eul: yes that’s how I got that money so what?  I sold choi and my dad for that money so what are you going to do. just cuz I don’t accept this money doesn’t mean my deceased dad will come back to life. it’s not like the culprit will be caught. it’s not like someone will reveal the injustice I felt. the world wont turn upside down so what’s wrong with accepting the money. Nari: still – you shouldn’t have. Eul: I know full well it’s a fight I cant win. should I go to the police again? go to jail? lose in court? get chased by hired thugs- should I live like that for the rest of my life? Nari: what will your father say if he saw this from heaven. Eul: he will say I did well. my dad worried and said for my entire life that I gave too much to others and that I couldn’t take care of my future so how did I expect to live in this terrible world so now he can rest easy and close his eyes. Nari: crazy girl – how does that make sense? Eul: with this money I will send Jik to college and to study abroad and do everything that others do without missing a single thing. why do you feel envious cuz a beggar suddenly became rich? Nari: what is so great about that money – how can you change and become this dirty.  you weren’t this kind of kid. Eul: with this money I will buy a home and move out of yours -I will get a nice home and live with Jik. Nari: ok leave. I don’t want to see trash like you so leave right now. Eul yells after her – you think I cant leave if you say to? I will leave and stay in a fancy hotel.

{hands down the worst scene I ever had to translate from Eul – I hated everything Eul said and can’t excuse or justify her behavior}

Ji tae goes home and hears his mom praising JE and how well she is doing at her job and stuff.  choi and haru arent listening to her

Ji tae goes over and sits with his family  saying didn’t you hear that talk. how people badmouth JE for getting a position she didn’t  earn when Ji tae’s mom isnt around. choi says when Ji tae first became the director  -everyone said that – that Ji tae was too young and only got that high position for the sole reason he was the son. does that make sense. but because you showed with your abilities no one could say a word. it’s been a long time son. it feels like it’s been almost a month since you sat at the dinner table. Ji tae tells his mom to let go of JE cuz he will never go back to her. holding onto her and toying with her like a doll – just do it up to here. please.

since Ji tae’s new job requires using his muscles he puts on medicated patches to soothe his aching. choi goes to Ji tae’s room and asks where he wants the patch placed. choi comments the work is hard cuz you never did that stuff before huh? Ji tae tells his dad that the mom gave Eul ten uk. how far is she thinking of taking it? choi asks if Eul turned it down and left. did she say you misjudged a person. do I look like a person who would waver over money like this? did that girl yell and turn that money down and go? that girl accepted it all – becoming this crushed – what is it that you are protecting? rest.

Ji tae gets a call from nari -she is crying. she says is it everything just to have a lot of money?  is it ok for you to destroy a person like that just cuz you have a lot of money? Eul wasn’t normal usually but she was never that weird. cuz of you people – she turned into trash. give me back our Eul.

Ji tae calls his friend and says I will take everything my parents have away

Joon’s mom tells the uncle –  if I didnt run away and stayed by choi’s side – what would have happened to choi? uncle thinks they would have had more siblings for Joon and lived happily hearing how great their kids are. she cries and says if I didn’t run away from choi’s side- like Joon said-  would Choi have been so destroyed? the uncle thinks even now – from what he could see of choi’s expression – if she gave permission he would throw everything away and come to her.  she says what to do about our poor joon – cuz of his dad – Joon cant even like the girl he likes

Joon goes over and sees Eul sitting with her shopping bags on the stairs. she is getting drunk and talking to what she bought. she asks Jik’s sneakers if she is trash – say a word about what I did so wrong. never mind – shut up. if you are going to bring up ethics -don’t say a word.  she yells that nari is bad – how can you call a ten year friend that she is trash. she tells the bags – tell your owner she was being bad. she lays down and calls out “dad – i just called out.” she closes her eyes.

Joon walks over to her and looks at her leaning against the railing and dozing.

he carries her home and leans her against the wall by the door. he says you did nothing wrong. you didnt do anything wrong. he leans in to kiss her but doesnt. he rings the bell and leaves. nari comes out and asks why are you here when you said you would go to a fancy hotel and cries over her.

Joon walks away and says mom – should I give everything up and live doing what I want and go. hold Eul’s hand by her side -kiss Eul -embrace that small shoulder warmly -watch movie – go on a trip -laugh – be happy – should I just live like that and go? it’s not like anyone will say anything.

Jik studies as Haru watches him in the study room. she admits how she cant focus cuz of him. he mentions how he is studying for that test to earn money so she says we cant be a campus couple? he asks if she can go to seoul university with her scores. she admits that she is dumb and cant study. she pouts and turns away and he sees the lap blanket over her shoulder with Joon’s pics all over and asks if she didn’t quit Joon’s fan club. she says I did and thanks to you I got a lot of insults from the members. she asks if he is jealous. he denies it. she says how she cant make her boyfriend worry and promises to study hard and go to college. he shows her how to solve the math problem but she cant hear words cuz she is only paying attention to his looks and lips. she leans in and kisses his cheek. he asks what are you – a pervert?

Joon sits at home and cant press the hand gripper. he gets a call from JE

Eul wakes up and drinks water. she sees the note from nari that eul slept outside her door instead of the hotel and that there is soup for her. eul wonders how she ended up sleeping outside Nari’s door – did she come home after waking from her drunken stupor . she doesnt remember. she goes over and sips the soup. the bell rings and ji tae’s secretary is there and says I am here to escort you to director Yoon JE -do you have time.

Joon buys women’s shoes and asks for it to be wrapped special cuz it’s a bday present. it’s to replace the one JE damaged in her fall. he calls and asks where he can go to meet JE

Ji tae is driving fast

Eul is taken to a fancy empty restaurant.JE is waiting. she says it’s my day today but I dont have anyone to eat with. sit down. JE orders the staff to prepare food and leave cuz she has things to say with Eul. JE explains she manages this restaurant and ordered no other customers to be accepted cuz she wanted to speak to Eul alone. JE: you know who I am right?  Eul: yes. JE: who am I? Eul: JE team leader. JE: not that. Eul: KJ group director.  JE: not that. Eul: other than that I don’t know…but JE cuts her off and says I am Ji tae’s fiancé. of course cuz of you I didnt get to have the engagement party and have to eat my bday meal alone. don’t you have anything to say to me? Eul: I am sorry. JE: not that. Eul: I am really sorry. JE: not that. Eul: I don’t know what to say. JE: not that. Eul: from here on I will never meet Ji tae again. JE: of course you shouldn’t. since you received ten uk. Eul gets a call from Ji tae. JE takes the phone and he asks where are you right now -are you with JE?  JE says yes she is with me. she said she wouldn’t meet you again but this wont do – she received ten uk and isn’t keeping her promise. I have to tell on her to mother. Ji tae tells her to let Eul leave – he is on his way. talk to me but JE hangs up.  Eul says I am sorry but JE says sorry? sorry for what? she yells what are you sorry for and how much?  she yanks the tablecloth and says how dare someone like you.  I cant even be jealous if I wanted to cuz you aren’t at the level that I can- how dare you.  Eul keeps saying sorry -sincerely- I didnt want to hurt you. I am really sorry. JE grabs her and says if you are that sorry then die. if you are that apologetic and sorry – go out and die right now so Ji tae cant go to you again. go out and die. Ji tae comes in and pulls JE off her telling JE to let go. he tells Eul to go outside.  Eul says to her -sorry dont worry I wont ever meet him again. she bows and leaves. Ji ta yells at JE- how far should we go? if I become more cruel -will you give up then?

Eul waits for the elevator. the door opens and Joon is there with flowers and the gift. she looks at him and what he is holding. tears run down her face.

Eul gets in trouble at work and the guy asks – how did you do the audio check (cuz it wasn’t done right)

Choi learns that Joon doesn’t have a father

Eul checks the audio and says I didn’t do it on purpose so sound didn’t come out -who is taunting me?

Eul finds out that Joon is ill and asks please tell me  – where and how much is joon hurting?

Jitae asks Joon: what is your intention -why are you going after JE?

Joon asks – do you have any thoughts of falling for me -no – do you have any thoughts of making me fall for you? so that my head is filled with you?

 

I don’t get what Joon’s endgame is with JE. Is he trying to get in her head so that she falls in love and confess her crime to him? How is that realistic?  The woman has no soul. He has seen how heartless and unmerciful she is – what makes him think he can manipulate her enough to confess? If the statute of limitation is running out on Eul’s dad’s case, would a recording of JE’s admission of guilt be enough? Cuz I just don’t see her walking into the precinct and admitting her crime.
