It’s moments like this in every drama that I savor every word and look. These two spend so much time confiding in each other thinking they are merely unloading their troubles. Little do they know that each shared memory is collecting emotions that come with affection. Their backgrounds couldn’t be more disparate, but the one thing they have in common is they each have sides to them that were lonely.  This connection is going to end up bridging more than just the gap between their different time periods cuz the best possible human connection is love.

Out of all the pretty boys since BOF, I like this Joseon F4 the best cuz none of their hairstyles look funny and they look so great together. (SUFBB would be number one if we were talking about F5)  Not going to lie and say I miss their looks from the past 4 eps that much cuz only Micky and LMH looked great in their hanboks I thought.  For the other two, this look is way better. I am dying to find out where this drama is headed this week cuz what they gave us so far had legions of fans around the globe hanging in suspense since last week.

In the BTS interview, Jung Suk Won who plays “Y” talked about shooting the scene where they get haircuts and how uncomfortable his former wig was cuz he had to wear 30 pins to keep it in place. Micky said even though it’s April and spring, it feels more like fall cuz the weather is still chilly so be careful not to catch colds. 🙂

After G says I am TY, T asks what is this person saying right now. what are you. Was this your plan from the start. But Grandma says “stop and take her (H) and go outside.” They leave her alone with TY

Grandma asks G: did you just say you were TY? You clearly said you were my grandchild TY right? G: yes grandmother. She cries and says of course it’s you -how could I make the mistake and not recognize you– how could I not know you. she hugs him. my baby

Outside the room S asks to speak to H. H follows her out. T sits down in shock and remembers how he punched TY and how TY fell in the water and how that same thing happened with G

S asks if H is leaving for America or not. H says this isnt the time to talk about that here. what happened cuz I heard that man lost consciousness and ran over here. S: that isnt the problem. it’s that the person who is his guardian is you. why do we keep running into each other. why do you keep showing up in front of me. H asks if running into her is that inconvenient for S. S comes clean and tells H: you know too who I am dating now. he is the man in the waiting room now. I lied to that person and lied to the chairman too. when it came to my family, I lied about everything. that I dont have a mother who sells fish at the market. and I dont have a younger sibling like you who has a different bloodline. my mother is a professor at a college in England. I was born into a well to do family and grew up well. I am going to marry that person no matter what. do you know what that means. so dont show up in front of me. H: is that why you told me to go to america. S: you accepted my money on that condition -didnt you? you don’t need my money? H: no that’s not it. S: hurry even a day earlier and keep your promise.  S walks away and runs into T. she is shocked. he asks why she is so surprised. S:no it’s nothing. why did you come here.  T says grandma is looking for the guardian. S: she just left saying she needs to get something. why? T: cuz grandma is taking that man home. S: I will tell her that. is he being discharged right now.  let’s hurry and go. S leads him out as H stands there around the corner

H goes home and looks at her rooftop house

The 3 guys washed their hair and are finger drying it.C tells M how soft his hair is getting. M: every time that shampoo makes that foam, it washes my hair so of course it softens it. C offers to help Y with his hair. Y says it’s ok. H goes in and M asks why she came alone cuz Becky said H went to bring the prince back. She says G went to a nice home so they should worry about themselves. the 3 of you have to come to your senses. what is up with that hair. downstairs complain cuz the drain gets clogged, everyone who sees you ignores you cuz you look weird so what is there that is so good to keep that hairstyle. just know that tm morning after you wake up, we are going right away to get your hair cut. they all get mad. Y: look here. I cant forgive you -how dare you cut someone’s hair. C: even if it’s you, I am going to break your neck.  M says if anyone cuts my hair it would be better to cut my body first

G is at home with grandma. the maid says she got his room ready for him to sleep. grandma asks if the maid put out his pjs and clothes to wear tm for him to wear after his shower. maid says I did everything you ordered. grandma says you did well and to go in and rest. maid says goodnight to them. graqndma says let’s talk tm slowly and go in and get a good night’s sleep. G: yes grandmother.

G goes to TY’s room and looks around. G looks at the picture. G: TY – you are clearly me reincarnated. why have you disappeared and why am I here from Joseon.  Are you by any chance dead? Did you call me here.

Grandma asks if G just asked her to buy the rooftop house. G: I will be sure to repay you later grandmother. she says that would make me too sad. He asks if it costs too much. She laughs and says that it’s not hard to buy the rooftop home. if you say you are going to live at that rooftop home until you regain your memory that would make me sad. G promises to pay her back for her kindness. she asks how he could talk about repaying her kindness since she is his grandmother. ok. even I understand you want to live outside at that rooftop home. but there is a condition for buying that rooftop house. you have to cut your long hair. He says not the hair – grandmother not the hair but she says she will only buy the rooftop home when he cuts his hair. we are done talking about this.

The 3 guys are standing around as the owner shows the room to a new tenant. the owner asks when H is moving out and H says tm. G shows up and M says to him “there is big trouble – H is moving out of the rooftop home.” C: it looks like we will end up on the streets. Y says they have to protect this place (cuz it’s their way home)

They go inside and C calls for H to come out cuz G has something to say to her. H brings out their clothes and gives it back to them saying she got their clothes back from the dry cleaner where she had been keeping it. they have already been dry cleaned. M says they havent paid her back yet so why is she giving them back their clothes. H says forget about that and just keep their clothes.  She also gives back Y his sword. She says don’t carry this around outside cuz it’s dangerous. Y asks why she is doing this suddenly. G asks them to leave the room for a while. the 3 guys step out.

G: what i said the night it rained, I said it without knowing your situation. (How he said her business would fail cuz she doesnt keep her promises.) H turns and faces him. H: you must be happy my business failed. G: hurry and tell the owner that you are not going to move out. She changes subject and asks if he really is the chairman’s grandchild. G: yes. She doesn’t believe it. H: I am going crazy. why does she (chairman) believe so easily. H: are you really him? G: yes for real. H: let’s just say you are. call your friends and pack up cuz I have to pack too.  she gives G back his embroidered handkerchief. the dry cleaner said it fell out of the clothes from the king. (the one G thinks the princess made but her sister did) G: so it was in there. he looks at it in shock and asks :what is going on. the butterfly reappeared. the butterfly was gone but now it’s back. this is amzing. the butterfly is back. He cries remembering

In her room H takes out the sketch of her and the yellow butterfly. She puts it back in the tin can

Becky and mimi come in. mimi asks if H is really moving out- is that for real. what happened. what is this talk suddenly. She knocks over the tin can and TY’s phone comes out. becky tells mimi to be careful. mimi says it’s cuz I am angry. becky asks H not to leave. how can you throw us away. mimi: what is the reason for moving out suddenly. H: it just happened that way. G heard all that and goes outside.

G tells the guys they have to cut their hair. M: did we just hear incorrectly? did you tell us to cut our hair? C says they cant have short hair. Y:  Cut my neck instead

G says they have two problems to solve ahead of them. one is to adjust to this world. two is to protect this rooftop home and the only way to solve those two problems is something we can do. so the guys beg and hold onto his legs. M asks him to come to his senses. C says if they cut their hair and go back to Joseon they will be stoned to death. Y: instead of cutting our hair and living in shame, it would be better for all of us to die here (by committing suicide) so that makes C and M come to their senses. Y says I will go get my sword so they grab him and stop him. G: why are you like this. think about it. the 3 of them try to hold Y down so he says let go.

Mimi and becky watch them act nuts. mimi thinks they cant come to their senses cuz they have to move out of the rooftop home.

mimi drew the 4 guys in their hanboks and it’s on her computer screen. she brought the wrong phone. she picked up TY’s phone by mistake. She sees a pic of TY and his grandma on the background and says he looks better with short hair.

T’s dad hears that the guy who fell in the water slept at the chairman’s home and wonders if he is really TY. T gets mad and says there is no way that punk is TY.  he is 100% a fake. from the start he planned this and was after TY’s empty spot. dad wants to report him to the police and put him behind bars but T says you cant call the police. there is nothing good from letting outsiders know. dad asks then what do we do. T asks for the family to gather at the home

The family gathers. grandma asks if T wants G to take a DNA test. (they are going to match it against the grandmother) she asks if they have to do this cuz she knows it’s TY.  T says: I chose this way cuz I want to believe this person is TY too so please be understanding. his dad says this is better than feeling uneasy the rest of their lives. she asks when they can know the results. T says it will take a month. The doctor tries to take a swab of G’s mouth and asks him to open his mouth, but G gets scared of the Q-tip and asks what he is doing. T says it wont take long so cooperate. T holds G down.  G drops his phone and the aunt picks it up. there is a picture of TY and his grandmother. Grandma looks at it and says it is correct. the phone was off when they called all those times. she wants T to call TY’s number so T does. T remembers throwing the phone overboard. The phone rings. T is stunned. Grandmother says it’s TY. The aunt hugs G and says it really is you TY- where have you been all this time. [aunt and grandma believe G is TY now.]

T’s dad says 2 yrs ago when T went to NY to meet TY, if T had been able to meet TY then, T would have been able to bring TY back.  he says how much T suffered all this time. he asks his son: you must feel relived now. T: yes. grandma says now there is no reason to feel like there is a mistake or be suspicious so since there are only you two (T and TY) who are heirs, you need to get along like you used to along time ago. T and G both say yes grandmother. T’s dad asks G: do you remember me your younger uncle. G shakes his head no. The aunt says before TY disappeared and was missing for the past 2 yrs, he has the phone he used before 2 yrs ago -all they need to do is check the text messages and pics on the phone to know how he lived before then.  so grandma gives the phone to S to check, but S says there is a lock and need a password. T’s dad asks if G remembers the password. G says I dont remember. S says they can find out if the owner of the phone takes it to the service center.  Grandma says then they can know what happened to TY in NY. she tells T to take G right now. TY’s ID is in his room so take it with you cuz we need to confirm this now.

In the car G took out his embroidered butterfly to look at it and the phone fell out and T saw that. T drops G off and says I will go park the car and come back quickly so wait here. T has the phone and turns it off. Then he puts the phone in his pocket

At the phone service center, T says he came to unlock a phone’s password. she asks for the phone and ID of the name of the person registered on the phone. T asks G for the driver’s license he got from the grandmother and the phone. G cant find the phone. G: where did the phone go. T: you dont have it?

S is on the phone with her mom. her mom is headed towards S’s home so S asks why are you coming there and how did you know where it was.  The mom says she asked H cuz H came to S’s place once before

The mom says how H lost a $40,000 check so she will try to come up with $20,000 and wants S to come up with the rest. S: why do I have to do that. The mom says H can pay them back when they money comes out. she feels bad cuz H didnt get to start the business she saved up for 2yrs and has to go back to America in one morning. S: it’s the same as if I didnt know her all my life.  mom reminds S that H is her younger sister.  S: what younger sibling. I never thought of her that way so dont talk like that.

T calls and asks if S is there at the officetel. S lies and says not yet-I am still outside- where are you. He says I will wait inside cuz I will be there in 5 mins. S quickly takes her mom out saying let’s talk about that later. her mom says she didnt get to look around the room yet. S says urgent business came up so let’s go out. The mom left behind the shopping bag.

T goes in and looks at TY’s phone. he tries to break the phone with a stone but S comes inside before he can do any real damage aside from breaking the screen. He drops the phone into the bag that S’s mom left behind. S comes in and says how she heard his cousin lost his phone. T: it turned out that way. she says how the grandma is really disappointed. T: she must be. they both get nervous about the bag and want to distract the other from it. T says I am hungry. S: let’s go and eat noodles.

As they are about to leave she sees her mom head back in so S lies that she forgot that she was supposed to tell an employee a contact number. she wrote it down on a memo upstairs and came down without it. so he should go ahead and place the order at the restaurant and she will be there soon.

The mom says how she forgot the bag cuz S hurried her out. S: dont tell H that you are going to lend her money. mom: ok. S tells her to call next time and not show up like this abruptly. she  gives her mom cab fare. her mom says just know that H thinks about your welfare.  as the mom leaves T goes back up. He sees her mom leaving

T looks for the bag and S asks if he is hungry. what are you looking for. T: wasnt there a paper bag here a while ago. she says she trashed it just now outside. T: I think I dropped a business card there. S: then do you need to look through the trash so he says never mind. I can get the number at the office tm.

H looks around the empty room. she remembers her radish doll.  She goes and stops the moving truck and asks the driver to wait a minute as she goes through her stuff to find her radish doll

grandma, aunt, and G are having a meal with the 3 other guys. The guys stare at the food in surprise cuz it’s steak and vegetables. The aunt asks G if his friends are all artists too. She asks how long they grew their hair and M says ever since birth. The aunt says that’s gross. Grandma says they prepared steak, TY’s fav and asks if the guys like it. they all speak politely and say we like it. grandma says then let’s eat. none of the guys know how to use a steak knife.  C says to her how Y uses the knife well. and Y asks permission to use his knife. grandma says of course. aunt: of course you have to use a knife for a steak.  so Y whips out his sword and tells each guy to hold out their plates and cuts everyone’s vegetables and meat. G notices how alarmed the aunt and grandma are so he tries to mouth the words “stop” to Y but Y was too busy slicing and dicing.

The 3 guys go in TY’s room and look at TY’s picture and C asks isnt that man you? M asks who is that man. G says listen carefully to what I tell you from now–while we are living here – you cant call me your majesty. I am not the crown prince now. M: how can you say that your majesty. G: didnt I say not to call me that. Y says they have to listen to the explanation to follow what G wants. G: from now on I am not the crown prince – I am TY. pretty soon you will see the crown princess too. M asks if that means she was reincarnated. G nods yes. M: did you already know the crown princess was reincarnated and here.  G says yes I knew that, that is what I have to be TY now. M: then is TY your reincarnation? G nods yes. he says how TY is already probably dead somewhere or else I wouldn’t have come from Joseon to here. M says that probably means G is the only one here-doesnt that mean TY is not here in this world. (meaning the two of them -G and TY’s incarnations cant exist in the same time and space so if TY did come back G would have to leave) G: yes that is what i want to know. I want to find out how TY disappeared and what the connection is to the crown princess’s murder and reveal it – the minute I find that out,  we can go back to Joseon. Don’t forget I am not the crown prince and TY. They promise to be careful

H was looking at the male and female doll figures made of stone and twine but dropped it. it got caught on a wire. she was reaching for it when G arrived. G sees her and thinks she was about to jump (commit suicide) so he grabs her and sort of ends up back hugging her while choking her. G: you cant- you cant die – you have to live. H: what is this. G: promise you wont jump. H says i cant breathe cuz he was holding her too tightly. H: ok. he lets go. She asks why he is like this. who is goingf to jump. G: if you werent then what were you doing just now. tell me what the reason was. She shows him what she dropped and he pulls it up for her. G hands it to her saying the way she behaves is same as always.

she asks what brings him here. he pulls out soju and whip cream. G: since last time you treated, I came to return the favor.

The 3 guys dress in their old clothes. C: even if we are not in our time period, we have to still have the memorial for mother. Y: we will prepare the food needed for the table so you take care of the things we need to lay them out from the kitchen (like plates and candles and stuff).  M thanks them. my mother in heaven will be happy. let’s have a simple memorial. (M’s mother’s memorial is today so they want to have a memorial  in her honor)

H and G drink inside the empty room. G says how the sweet cream tastes good. He tells her to put the sweet thing (the whip cream) in her mouth after she drinks her soju shot, but she says : today, if it’s sweet it will be dangerous. I’m just going with the bitter. he asks what that means. H: you dont need to know. G points out she had been speaking banmal (informally) since a while ago so why isnt she speaking jeondanmal (formally) H: truthfully you are a grandson of a grandmother from a rich family so you arent older than me by 300yrs.  during all that time I was showing respect towards a 300 yr old grandpa.  should we reveal who is an oppa and who is a noona? how old are you. He says I don’t remember. let’s drink. H: I don’t remember too

C is going through the fridge for food for the memorial and finds the ketchup you put on omurice. He smells it and puts some in his mouth. Grandma comes out for some water and sees the fridge door open. She says someone opened it and closes it. she sees C with his mouth covered with what looks like blood in that light so she passes out

H explains how she was in a car accident and got hurt a lot and cant remember any of her childhood before she was 9 yrs old.  since I had a mom and dad I was born. After 9yrs old, I was alone. at 9 yrs old, I didn’t have a mom and dad. all this time I didn’t have good memories. while earning money when I was having a hard time, I imagined I was on a beach on vacation and resting under palm trees. while looking at this. She shows a pic of a beach resort on her phone background. H: even though I have never been to a place like this, but after imagining that, I felt better.  she shows the male and female doll figures they have at those beach resorts. when they both have their hands tied behind their backs like this, they help me earn money. when the man and woman tie their feet together, it means I will get love. if you tie their hands to each other, they say it means you are wishing for health. G: all this time you made those wishes and you end up like this. she gives him a look for that sarcastic retort and hands it to him and tells him to make a wish then. G: just wait and see

The aunt wakes up and Y comes inside. He asks where she keeps the liquor and asks her to go together. She is scared out of her mind and says no it isnt my time to go yet. I wont go so don’t take me. I wont die. I wont. she hits him. Y: why are you like this. she faints.

G pulls down H’s curtain and covers her with it. he asks if she is going to America tm. H says I have to go cuz I bought the plane ticket and already got a home in america. he asks if she is going to leave even if she has her home here. H: it’s all over now. I have to go. He says :just stay here

The guys found enough food and bow at the memorial table. A woman with a white face mask comes in and M says “mother” and the 3 of them pass out cuz they think they are staring at a ghost. The housekeeper asks what is going on

H and G fell asleep. they bump heads while nodding off. When H opens her eyes, G is gone.

G tells the guys to sit in the back and when G and the driver get in, the back seat is empty. They get out and go to the back of the car and the 3 guys are in the trunk. M and C smile up at them. they look like “eager to please puppies” so the driver smirks.

the 4 of them are standing outside the building where S works. G points her out and says that is the crown princess. G: who wants to go first. C offers to go inside and meet her and bring back the princess. the guards toss C outside. The guards are told not to let in anyone with long hair except for women. M tries to go in too by asking who is in charge here cuz I have something to say. the guard says his hair is long and M gets turned away. M comes back to G and says they cant get in.  Y fights the guards off and gets caught in the revolving door and keeps coming back outside and fighting them again and again

G tells the 3 of them – this is what we have to do. while looking like this we cant get through that door. how are we going to be able to do anything like this. Since we came here we have to go along with their customs and follow their laws. there is only one way to do that. the 3 guys beg: your majesty. G: we are going to cut our hair. The guys cry out your majesty.

H says to the radish doll: going – not going. She lets it fall and if it falls forward it means she is going and if it falls back it means she isn’t going. she tries 3 times and first two came out as “going” but the last one was for “not going.” H: If he tries to hold onto me should I just stay here? she hears footsteps and smiles going to the door

She goes outside and 4 of them are there. she asks what brings them here since this place will soon be someone else’s home. G says I heard there are such things as pics for memory (to remember things by) so we came to take pics for our last memory. H: final memorable pics? G: yes. He asks her to bring her camera out. he tells the guys to move the table and get ready to take pics.

the 4 of them pose with G in the center.  H tells them to hold still. Each time she gives instructions to a guy, G follows them like she is talking to him. She asks Y: are you mad about something. smile a little. She tells C not to hold his chin up too high. She tells M to uncross his arms. everyone stay like that. She asks if G is taking pics alone and makes him move so there is room for her too.

She puts the timer on and runs over and sits next to G. they take lots of shots with awkward smiles

At the salon, the 4 guys are sitting in their chairs and G says let’s start. C tries to run away saying I cant, but Y stops him. M asks G -it’s not too late- it would be better to give up the rooftop home. G tells his stylist to cut his hair. The other guys cry and say don’t. G cries first and then the rest follow

G runs back to H’s home with short hair but she is gone.

H is at the bus stop. She gets on the bus just as G runs after her bus. He calls out her name and says “wait”.

G almost gets run over by a truck. The driver comes out and says thank goodness. You have to look before you cross the street. Are you ok. are you not hurt. can you walk. Let’s go to the hospital. G: I am ok.  I have to chase after that bus. The man says no let’s go to the hospital first. G sees the billboard for a beach resort on the back of the man’s truck. G:that’s it. sell that picture to me. G offers to pay twice the amount and holds up a black credit card that doesnt have a card limit. G: sell me that picture.

The truck drives past H as she looks out the window. She sees it and smiles. G sticks his head out of the passenger side and looks for H. he keeps calling out her name. she finally sees him and G tells her to pull over. H: what is he doing – he must be crazy. G tells the bus driver to pull over.

On the bus, G stands over H and yells: Where are you going without permission. She thinks they already said goodbye cuz they took last pics so she thought that meant he was saying “go well.” He says they took those last pics to remember by cuz they cut their hair. G: you have a beach now.  you don’t have to go far away now. Let’s go. He takes her hand and drags her off the bus. People clap. They stand on the street as the bus pulls away and he was holding her wrist so G lets go. They look at each other and he sort of smirks. She points to his short hair so he smiles.

They sit and stare at the billboard. G: From now on good memories will appear. She has tears in her eyes.

Someone honks and startles her so she almost falls so G catches her in a hug. They break apart and stare at each other.

At the end of last episode I had no idea how to interpret G’s actions, but thankfully it’s all been laid out for us. Even though he thinks he is a reincarnation and that taking TY’s place is part of his calling, I think he was also very motivated by the possibility of seeing S, as well as his frustrations with H for leaving. The truth behind the link between TY and G remains to be seen, but the butterfly leads me to believe that there really is one.

I couldn’t decide if watching the guys groom their hair reminded me of highschool girls, or a bunch of monkeys. I thought I was eager for them all to get haircuts, but I found myself rooting for them to keep their hair (what can I say, their awkwardness is endearing). That being said, G looks a heck of a lot better now, and I enjoyed the dramatics leading up to their cuts (but seriously, why haven’t we seen the others yet…why are they teasing us??).

I know the boys need to become acclimatized to their environment in order for the plot to progress, but I don’t want an end to the shenanigans either, so I enjoy the method the drama is currently employing of having G get his feet under him a little faster than the others.  It also just feels right, since G is used to leading, and they are used to following.

The romance certainly got amped up this episode, and I think the timing is right, but I’m not quite buying it yet. That’s ok though, because I don’t think that G is quite buying it yet either. Without modern sensibilities I’m not sure he understands what’s romantic and what’s not, and I’m not sure he has any understanding of his developing feelings for H. I wonder too how he views his relationship with S. Does he consider her his wife? I don’t think so, but I do believe that he’ll have a very hard time letting go of her (since it seems like destiny that he’s met her again).

I sort of love that even though our second leads are rather lacking in the moral department, they haven’t yet used their powers of evil for stalking or tearing a couple apart (which is the kdrama norm). So instead of resenting them or rolling my eyes at how pathetic they are, I just find myself interested in what they’ll do next (and honestly, I have no idea!). It does seem like S will create some love triangles soon, but I don’t get the impression that she’ll harness any genuine feelings for anyone.

This show has a lot going for it, and so far one of my favorite aspects is how unpredictable I find it. All of the “deaths”, the time travel, and the manipulations by the characters have left us with a lot of story options, and that’s a rare thing. Every episode I have no idea what to expect, but I always look forward to it. That being said, pretty much everything is overshadowed right now by my eagerness to see the new look of the three boys revealed (BTS shots don’t cut it). The suspense is killing me!
