Even in this last hour this show keeps reminding us what it means to love and be loved in return. What it feels like to be around family for the first time. What it feels like to be so content being next to the one you love that you can’t imagine ever leaving her side. There might not be a tomorrow for these two, but just look how much they make the best of the today they have together. With every loving glance, word, and action, both of them are putting up brave fronts for what they are about to face. If only everyone could love so wholeheartedly in such a short amount of time, this world might be a better place all around. It’s certainly making this viewer believe in the wonders of love again and leaving an impression of this show that grows a bit more magical with each episode.

Our resident alien MJ has discovered firsthand that observing something and actually experiencing it are worlds apart. By living here for over 400 years, he has learned that the most surprising thing about humans are their ability to surprise and astound you with their heart. He is about to find out just how much.

Up to E20 perfection – just one more to go to make it complete. 🙂

Written before it aired:

It’s coming down to the wire. The drama I’ve loved since I first heard of the casting is ending soon. There hasn’t been a single moment or episode where I have regretted picking up this drama to recap and it’s rewarded me by giving all its best. We had to wait a whole week to hear what MJ is going to reply, but I don’t think there was anyone out there who doubted what his heart was feeling. After what happened last week, the name of the game should be “holding on with all your might and not letting go.” At this point, I don’t care how many stops they have to pull, but I want this production to give us a great ending to match everything that came before. Happily ever after seems to be an elusive concept in kdramas, but at times like this, I think they have to give us one so the ratings for the finale can soar.

There are so many speculations and rumors about the ending, but I wanted to dwell on these two actors for a moment. I’m so proud and grateful to JJH for stepping out of her comfort zone and doing comedy this well – from here on, I hope to see her more on dramas than just movies and CFs. I always had faith KSH would bring his A game and he didn’t let me down again. He is on a winning streak not just for the roles he plays, but also for his dedication and intensity for his craft. These two redefined what great chemistry looks like onscreen so I hope they relish in their accomplishments and aim for another high level of standard for their next projects.

Like I said before, whatever they have stored for us tonight and tm, I am ready for it. If you ask me, they did everything right so far so they earned their privilege to give us any kind of finale they want so I put my trust into their hands. I must admit, I’ve been trying to lay low and not stalk Soompi so much for spoilers cuz I love the element of surprise when it’s done right. Not like Gu Family where the ending was so messed up, I didn’t want to recap the last 12 mins of the finale. Worst way to say farewell to a drama is saying “what the freak” every five seconds. No fictional character should have to wait that long for his happy ending. Let’s hope our dear MJ doesn’t have to go through any of that insanity here. I haven’t wanted a director’s cut DVD in a long time, but I want this one for sure. One thing that was sorely missing from this production was the number of BTS and outtakes and I can’t wait to see the interviews and commentary for certain episodes.

*I never realized till now but it must really suck for any actor to share screen time with KSH cuz he is just plain perfect from every single angle.

CY says for my sake – exist somewhere. for my sake – dont die. exist somewhere. what I am saying is – go – to where you are from. he (jang) said it wouldn’t do if you don’t go – that you might die – that you are having a hard time even now so leave. he says I already decided – I am going to stay by your side. she says I already decided too – if you stay by my side and die I will die too. don’t you know what that means? I like you way more than you think so just with the truth that you are alive somewhere -I think I can live. rather than you not being around anywhere in the world -it’s easier than that.  he says that wont happen – I wont make you be alone. there will be a way – I will find it.

Yoo watches the news that something unbelievable happened at hanguk hospital –  chun SY disappeared with a mysterious man.  his name is DMJ, but there are more incoming reports of others remembering him by another name. the old grandpa is interviewed about how MJ resembles the person he always beat (in the game). the doctor is being interviewed that MJ resembles Han SJ a lot but that friend already died for certain.  reporter says MJ’s friends gave him good reports. Bokja is interviewed and says nice things about MJ and denies that he could be dating SY . we should speak with facts. to tell the truth, DMJ and I have some kind of relationship (we have something going on).  the reporter says maybe he deceived everyone that he is average and maybe he is an alien from another star. Yoo turns off the news and they drink. Park is annoyed that reporters keeps asking about MJ all day  -am I his father? why keep asking where he went? Yoo: I didn’t know he would do that with everyone watching. Park: we were going to keep silent and keep his secret, but within one night (he threw all that away) where do you think MJ is now?

in bed SY asks if he is sleeping. he asks why. she turns and faces him saying i worried how to send you away. whether to say I am tired of you or say I will live well with HK so don’t worry and go. MJ turns and pinches her cheek. SY: I was scared – though I was scared you wouldnt be by my side. that you wouldn’t be by my side or anywhere else in this world, I was scared.  arent you a little scared? he says one person is born, grows up, grows old, and dies – I saw many times. so I thought – if they are going to die in the end like that- why try so hard. only the length is different but in the end they are people who will grow old have wrinkles and disappear- why do they persistently live enduring wars. being one step away and watching earthlings –  i thought they were pathetic and meaningless, but now after thinking of death –  I realized there are no people living for the sake of death –  the important thing was the moment you are alive so even if the end is decided, you can be happy and live on. it was simple but it took a long time to realize that. he holds her close as he speaks.

Bokja cries watching the footage of MJ rescuing SY from the restaurant and says “chun SY – how could you” so the comic book guys say “that’s friendship -look how she is crying cuz she is afraid something happened to her friend – I saw Hang owner (Bokja)  differently this time” but she was crying saying ” DMJ is my man. what to do.”

Jang is telling the police it’s not a kidnapping the two of them are dating. cop asks where are they now then? Jang: they must be somewhere.

in the cab there is news about how MJ helped to arrest Lee JK and the crime that MJ suddenly disappeared with SY -till now they cant contact the two people.  she sits close to MJ and tells the driver to turn off the radio. the driver recognizes her so she admits yes it’s me chun SY. she asks if MJ is feeling ok. MJ: I am ok. she asks why didn’t you tell me the truth about JK oppa all that time? MJ: to a hothead like you? to a kid who cant even hide your own feelings for five mins. she says how HK must be having a hard time

saemi is sitting by HK’s bedside when he wakes and asks how she came here. she says your mother called me -that all you did was keep sleeping for a few days. he says I am ok and tells her to go now. saemi: why? would I catch you and eat you? HK: it’s cuz I want to be alone. Saemi: I didn’t like SY and wanted her to be miserable – each time she lost something -it felt like revenge and I liked it. but looking back the one who lost the most was me. trusting that I was her closest friend – and to you too – I wasn’t able to be honest. I wasn’t able to unload sincerity/truth to anyone so my sincerity rotted and couldn’t use it. so now I will totally let you go cuz I have to live. I have to let you go to go back to being your friend and at least to you unload my true feelings. I know you had a hard time over what happened so instead of not letting it all out to no one -do it to me –  let it all out to me and cry in front of me HK.  she sits by him and puts her hand on his shoulder as he cries.

JK is giving instructions to his lawyer to do is best and seek bail cuz I am S&C group’s heir so I’m not a flight risk. he is giving his lawyers instructions for how to handle his case and get him out. how he was wronged since he was interrogated under duress. then how he wont overlook what was captured on the CCTV cuz he was the victim entrapped by the prosecutor so accuse him. the lawyer gets a call and says I will call you back right away. JK says there are things you need to take care of so I can get out even an hour sooner.

when SY and MJ get home there are reporters waiting.  she tells the driver to wait a second and takes MJ’s hand and says dont be nervous. MJ: I wont. SY gives him the pep talk she wants to give herself and says: don’t tremble either. don’t cower either. you told me to hide only when I did something wrong. be confident. you did nothing wrong. MJ: I know so you don’t cower. SY: what about me. he looks at her knees shaking so she says ok. for starters – I will get out first. MJ: let’s get out together. SY: I went through this a lot. just trust me. he asks what will you do. she says the moment I get out of the car, the reporters will swarm around me so you go straight into the building  and dont use your power since you dont feel well these days. you might make it more obvious/noticeable. dont shake. he steadies her shaking knee so she thanks him. she says ready and action. she gets out of the cab. reporters ask where are you coming from? what happened. were you kidnapped. SY: I will tell you everything. I wasn’t kidnapped.  they ask then what happened? where is DMJ? tell us the truth. MJ gets out of the cab so they ignore her and go to MJ and ask is it correct that you kidnapped chun SY? what happened after you suddenly disappeared? she tries to get their attention saying excuse me -everyone I am doing an interview right now, but no one listens to her. she pushes through them and says no photos will be taken of MJ. don’t take it. take photos of me – move those cameras. a cop goes over and asks MJ to go with them. she says i will tell you everything- I wasnt kidnapped. MJ takes her hand to stop her. the cop says let’s go in to the station to talk. let’s go. he takes MJ’s arm so she says let him go.

her family watches the news about SY said MJ. chun SY showed up with her manager after she disappeared. chun SY said DMJ is her fiancé and wasnt kidnapped. she kept her mouth shut and said no comment when she was asked how they disappeared. her mom says what? fiancé? has she gone crazy? who said she could? that girl’s finger is fine – that bad girl. she is safe and didn’t make one call home.  YJ worries is our MJ hyung being caught and taken to the police right now. that cant happen. the mom says your sister cant even more cuz she is an actress. which station is that. she grabs her phone to call but the dad stands up so the mom asks -why? are you leaving. the kid went to the station. the dad says she arrived safely and wasn’t hurt anywhere so that’s good. tell her to call me when she arrives home ok.  the mom says later on when the kid comes – shouldn’t you have a meal before you go? she asks YJ: isnt that so? YJ: why ask me that? he says to his dad – you should eat before you go. YJ leaves the room and the dad smiles at the invite.

at the station the cop is holding one arm while SY holds onto MJ’s other one. the cop says your interrogation will take long so go into the room. he tells SY to wait here. she asks why? why cant I go in with him. what are you planning to do to be that way? cop says what would I do?  she says then talk here.  on the way over I told you. I am DMJ’s fiancé  and I wasn’t kidnapped so if you keep this up I wont stand still for it. MJ tells her it’s ok. she says ok but if you think he will do something strange – come out right away or yell and I will stand here keeping watch. the cop is offended and mutters how do you see me. let’s go. don’t you know what kind of world we live in these days (meaning he cant do anything bad to MJ). he takes MJ away as she calls out – if you don’t think it’s right don’t endure it and call me. ah that’s right I don’t have a phone. if it seems urgent call 911 – wait this is the police.

the cop asks MJ to talk about how he was able to treat her drugged state first. but how were you able to do that – disappear in front of their eyes. is that really some alien power? that isn’t it right? MJ gets into his lawyer mode and says whatever reason I disappeared –  is that against the law/criminal? is there a law against it? the cop admits it isnt cuz it was the first time. MJ acts like a lawyer and says check the statutes that I have broken first cuz I am not sitting here to satisfy your personal curiosity

a cop asks if SY wants some noodles. she asks if MJ is being fed while he is being interrogated. the cop says he said he wont eat so she says I wont eat either then. Park runs in and greets her and she remembers him from last time when he came to see her. Park: you remembered. DMJ is inside right?

Park goes in to see MJ and yells at the cop for not contacting him first cuz he said he was going to take charge of questioning MJ. why didn’t you call me -didn’t you hear? cop says how the jurisdiction for hanguk hospital is us. so Park says that’s not it.  the hotel where DMJ first disappeared is my jurisdiction. and all this happened as a result of my case.  the cop agrees. Park says I already have a lot of info on DMJ – I am after this guy. he pretends to be mean towards MJ for eavesdropping.  Park says to the cop -I will interrogate him well so don’t worry about jurisdiction and hand him over

Park goes out and tells MJ and SY – I will check if there are any reporters or not first so follow behind me. some clerk walks by and asks for an autograph so SY says i am busy right now. what is your name. but the woman wants it from MJ and asks did you really disappear through teleporting? I heard it was a magic show too.  SY explains – he isn’t someone who signs autographs. the woman says if not an autograph then how about a photo? or a handshake?  SY moves her hand away from MJ and says what handshake. you cant. the woman explains it’s cuz my child saw the video and liked you so much. he thought you were superman.  SY: you have a child? you must be married. now that SY established the woman is taken, she is suddenly generous and tells MJ to sign an autograph for her. the kid likes you.

Park says there are no reporters here. he  tries to tell SY to go home now but she is holding onto MJ and says I said I don’t want to. I am going to stay with him. Park says are we going to go have fun – we are going to interrogate him. not just anyone can come in here. MJ says on the way we will drop you off in front of the home. SY: I don’t want to. MJ: chun SY.  SY: even if you say something about this I don’t want to.  I will stay by your side. she tells Park -I will wait in front of the interrogation room. that’s up to me.

she sits and waits while park and Yoo interrogate MJ

Yoo and Park put on a show of interrogating MJ for his offenses but without MJ needing to say one word in defense they cover both sides – the accusations and explanations on their own so MJ stares at them. Park goes over how MJ treated SY on his own at the hospital for her condition. do you know that’s against medical practice rules or not? Yoo says but her condition was dire and even if she had been treated a little later she would have been in danger. also since she was treated there is nothing wrong with her at all right now. Park: it was urgent and the objective wasn’t to harm then we need to dismiss those charges. Yoo: probably. Park: but there is a problem left over.  the damage done to the restaurant. what are you going to do about that. 12 really expensive dishes were broken and they lost a lot of business as a result of what happened.  Yoo says thankfully no one was hurt so couldn’t he be given some leeway? Park: really? you are really lucky  DMJ -all you need to do is pay compensation to the owner and a fine to settle this. Park thinks and says what else was there. the crime of assaulting Lee JK but he deserved to be hit. MJ asks what are you doing right now. Park: cant you see? settling the accusations/charges.  Yoo asks why did you do it? MJ: what are you talking about? Yoo puts down MJ’s pen and says: while living as Hwa In, Han SJ -and as DMJ – all that time, there were things you clearly wanted to protect but in one moment why did you ruin it all?  I am curious to know that reason.  MJ says dont the two of you have someone who is precious? I have someone like that too – that’s all. thinking that I could lose that person – I couldn’t see anything (everything went dark) in front of my eyes. there was nothing else I could calculate. in that moment I simply did what I could do.  looking back – everyone who wants to protect that precious someone – they live fighting- getting hurt- and losing out on things. I just have someone like that now.

MJ goes out and she asks is it all done? MJ nods yes. SY: let’s go home. she takes his hand and turns the corner but they disappear cuz he teleported them

YJ and the dad look on as her mom is on the phone saying “she isn’t home yet. the interrogation must not have ended yet. if there are reporters out front they must be keeping watch in the parking garage too so if she doesn’t go through that way then how could she come home? teleporting? are you joking right now? that wouldn’t happen for real.”  suddenly MJ and SY appear right then and gives them all a shock. the mom says into the phone: anyway they arent home yet – they might not and go somewhere else. I will hang up. SY asks what happened and MJ says sorry I couldn’t control it. her mom tries to hit SY but MJ gets hit on the back in her place. YJ and SY worry over him.

her mom takes SY in the room and asks what is it -what is manager Doh’s identity? SY: what? her mom says when people talked about him on tv I didn’t believe it. but how did you guys come in just now? SY says talk about it later but her mom what are you going to do if he is a strange person? I think YJ knows something so if you don’t tell me I will get YJ to talk.  SY: mom – in the world there is just one –  he is the person I love. before then there weren’t any and there wont be any afterwards- he might not be an average/ordinary guy, but to me he is just the person I love so give DMJ some food.

the family is gathered around the table. SY asks what did you make? she sees the fish and takes the plate saying that’s good cuz my MJ likes it but her mom says each person gets one and hands the first one to MJ saying I am not giving it to you cuz I am pleased with you. I’m just giving it to you cuz it’s time to eat.  MJ smiles and takes the plate saying I will eat it well. her mom gives the next one to the dad (she went out of order on purpose cuz normally dads or the eldest always get served first) the dad says I will eat it well too SY’s mom. SY tells MJ this is the first time in 12 years our family ate together. her mom comments about the way YJ is picking at his rice saying -why eat like that -just dig in but YJ retorts -it’s up to me. so MJ smiles and tells him to eat deliciously so YJ quickly obeys him saying “yes hyung.” the mom notes the hero worship. SY tastes the soup and tells her mom not to make it. what is up with the taste? the dad says it’s ok for me so why? mom mutters to SY: you don’t even know how to make it so why complain how others make it.  the mom asks him how it tastes so MJ tastes it and says it’s strange. SY takes his bowl and says don’t eat it. YJ says I normally don’t eat your soup mom. so the mom gets mad and tells them all not to eat it and puts all the bowls in front of the dad cuz he was the only one who said it was ok. MJ sneaks a look at SY and grins.

MJ says to the camera – it was the first time I ate with a family. how did it feel? to the extent that next to SY -if there are people like these, I feel safe. I want to keep being together with them too- that’s the kind of thoughts I have.

*The eager look on his face shows just how much he wishes he could stay in their lives, but knows the reality that it’s not possible so his smile quickly fades. Now that he has a taste of what having a family means, he doesn’t want the experience to end. This is the danger of affection – once you give your heart to someone, you just end up wanting to stay for good.

after dinner they are sitting around having fruit and SY looks at her watch and says how it’s late. how about leaving before cab fares increase? (cuz basic cab fares in Korea go up after midnight) her dad gets the hint and says I will be leaving my daughter. He gets up and walks out so SY tells her mom – “go safely” since her mom didn’t get the hint. her mom asks you want me to go too? SY gives her a “get lost” look so her mom asks what are you planning to do (after I leave)? YJ: instead of saying she will do something – it’s cuz our MJ hyung is uncomfortable. we will stay (the 3 of us) so SY tells him – you leave too and take mom.   YJ: me too? SY: you get in the way the most.  YJ: what did I do? SY: you keep acting forward with my DMJ. MJ tries to stop her so she says I should say what needs to be said. YJ gets possessive and links arms with MJ asking is our MJ hyung yours? she pulls MJ away saying – of course he is mine -would he be yours? hurry and go and don’t be a bother. MJ looks pleased she won that tug of war. her mom asks who do you take after to be so easy like this? from what I can see – you are the most forward. if a woman does that she really doesn’t have any charm. SY juts out her chin saying it’s ok – I have leeway cuz I am pretty. she smiles at MJ saying – isn’t that so DMJ shi? YJ bites down on his apple slice in disgust. MJ grins and nods yes at her. SY holds onto MJ more.

Ahn has Saemi’s pics taken down and puts back up SY’s photos saying put the prettiest photo in the middle. her mom asks why are you making me come and go.  Ahn says how good she looks after not meeting for a while. she asks why he called her.  Ahn says our SY – the one I raised since she was a child actor – I went over how to make her have a come back and I came up with something in the end. I made a decision. her mom asks to do what? he says hold my hand and let’s go together mother. she says what do you mean go “the contract with SY is over.” where did that Ahn go who said that?  he asks did I say that? she stands to leave so he says where are you going. she says I am busy. there are a lot of places who want to meet with me. he makes her sit back down and says let’s go with the amount we were going to renew her contract with. also this. he hands her a paper. she asks what is this and looks it over. it’s a deal so she asks is this for my SY?  Ahn says no – it’s for you to pass on to DMJ cuz I don’t have a way to reach him. she asks what is this – you want DMJ to become an actor? is he some celebrity. Ahn says is being a celebrity the problem now? when he is someone who can teleport.  he is an amazing item that can do a magic show world tour just once. she sticks up for MJ and says what do you mean an item. is DMJ an item? that’s right you thought of my SY as an item too so you could keep her when it’s nice and throw her away when it’s bad. find an item when you do a game.   I am going to find an agency that manages people. she walks off so Ahn wonders why she is suddenly so nice. mother -did I say an item – that was a mistake.

MJ walks out with SY and asks why are you being so stubborn. I said I would take you. SY: if you show up at the film set there will be a huge ruckus. I will just quickly go alone and come back.  he asks you aren’t trying to stop me from going cuz there is a kiss scene or back hug scene? SY: it’s not. MJ: if there are scenes like that use a stand in. the elevator door opens and HK comes over.  HK hugs her so MJ looks jealous. HK asks why her face got so thin. you must have suffered a lot following DMJ. through clenched teeth MJ asks him -what’s up. HK: I’m going to take my SY to the film set. cuz it would be hard for you to go around outside since there are a lot of people staring. HK asks her – you lost your phone huh? he gives her one so she says I was going to go and buy one today. HK: I changed the number – the back numbers are the same as mine. MJ scoffs but SY says that’s good. I always forget my number but your number I memorized. MJ looks jealous again. SY: I think I left my wallet behind. wait a second. she goes in.

HK tells MJ -you are furious huh? MJ: no – not at all. HK: I am not standing still cuz I admit (you are the right one for her) right now she likes you so much so I am leaving her alone, but I haven’t given up. if you suddenly disappear from her side, the moment she is alone – know I will be there by her side. I wont ever let her go then. MJ lets his words sink in.

in the car HK brings up what JK did so she says I know about it – I heard. HK: making you go through that many times – I am sorry. SY: you are smiling right now too – but there are no words for how you feel miserable in your heart huh? I am like that too. i just eat and film like nothing is going on, but inwardly there are no words for how I feel miserable. HK: what’s going on? SY: everyone in the world except me seems happy

on the set SY sits down next to saemi saying it’s been a long time. saemi says cuz of you the film set is noisy. cuz too many reporters came over. SY: whatever I do I am hot.  Saemi: not you – everyone is looking for your manager. didn’t DMJ come? SY : stop caring about someone else’s man. saemi cuz of that incident our director was in a fix. cuz there are rumors he put on that show to promote our movie. SY: thanks to me – your first lead in a movie has a blemish. saemi: the script was suddenly adjusted – cuz your lines got longer. SY brags I am a scene stealer. then boasts how good an actor she is so saemi points out you couldn’t act well for 15 yrs so how could you do that over night. that’s not it cuz Han’s accident was settled and people felt sympathy for you and cuz of that business with DMJ broke out – you suddenly got that mysterious image…” since she brought up all the news about SY recently so SY guesses -you read all the articles about me. you are reciting all the articles about me. aren’t you one of those maligning me? I will one day sue all those slanderous people so if you don’t want to be embarrassed and run into me at the police station stop it now.  saemi: what did I do? SY: do you have some time now? saemi says no

SY’s mom talks to MJ alone. she says while SY is gone – i wanted to talk with you for a second. MJ: yes. mom says I heard from YJ but it’s so shocking and unbelievable – that you are an alien. is that for real? MJ says yes. mom says no way. do you by any chance have an evaluation with a psychiatrist or something?   MJ: no it must be hard for you to believe but it’s true. like mother like daughter, she pinches his cheek and tugs hard and says your skin doesnt come off though. what about your parents? that person wasn’t your real father so what about your real parents? are they residing over there? by any chance is there any plan for your whole family to suddenly come here to this star? he says life over there is a little different form here so I have no experience with family, friends, or parents. she is pleased with that answer.  she says ok and tells him to go rest

in the bathroom MJ washes his hands and starts to nosebleed. he has a vision of himself disappearing. he staggers to his bed and lies down passed out.

SY rings his doorbell and opens it and goes in. she calls out to him. where did he go – he shouldn’t be going around now. she looks over at his plants and remembers how she asked Jang – if he really doesnt go will he really die. Jang said how could I know – there was a plant that he grew from a long time ago but starting from not too long ago that plant seemed to be rotting. she asks are you saying that has something to do with DMJ. Jang says I am assuming/guessing so

she goes into the bedroom and sees MJ passed out on his bed. she asks what is this – are you sleeping already? even if you are in the same home with me you arent nervous at all – is that it? she cries and goes over and shakes him then turns him over. dont do this. it’s scary so dont do this. he is unconscious so she cries and says no. he opens his eyes and pats her hair. he sits up and looks at her. she asks are you awake now? he hugs her and says you are this loud so how could I not be conscious. she sobs and says i thought you died – I thought you died. he holds her close.

they sit and talk on his bed. she asks how many days are left till he has to go back. he says about one week. she says it’s too short. we cant waste it on fighting like others. you saw me a while ago – if you stay by my side and die – I will cry like a while ago – not for days or months or years but probably till I die I will blame myself. I will be tormented that you died cuz of me. do you want me to do that? he says then what about me – every day for a long time – what about me if I miss you? no matter how much time passes when I cant forget you – what should I do then. she says we took a lot of pics -cant  you take it with you. whenever I miss you here – I will look at your photos a lot. I will listen to the song you sang me and think of you. you do that too. we still have a lot of time left. let’s spend the week like 7 years 70years and spend it having fun. she looks at him and asks “with that – do you love me?? he pinches her cheek and says wash your face cuz you dont look good

MJ narrates: so was that week really special?  it was pedestrian and ordinary more than any other time

SY and MJ are watching a game while eating. she points to the tv and says that is ridiculous. that’s a home adventure so MJ corrects her – home advantage. SY: yes that. cant you do something about it?  MJ: what can I do? SY: you cant even do that? that’s so unfair. she decides to call in an order so MJ says -I said don’t drink alcohol and tosses her phone away. she says just one drink so he says no – one drink becomes two and two becomes three. while I’m not here so you can get drunk and go into any guy’s home? you can’t. stop drinking at this time. she tries reaching for her phone again but he takes it away

They are both in bed and MJ reads aloud from that script she made up. “isn’t life a choice anyway? there is a reason why I have to choose you..” he stops and throws down the script and says why is this script always like this?  she asks who will you save first if Jang and I fall into the water. MJ: what is that suddenly? SY: huh? who are you going to rescue? choose. who? he says you. SY: really? MJ explains it’s cuz Jang was a marine and can come out on his own well. she asks is that the only reason? not cuz you feel something something about me? MJ: what is something something? she pretends to be pouting and says don’t wake me and puts the covers over her head so he asks want to go eat ice cream. she says you buy and gets out of bed.

they play go stop together. she thinks something is strange. MJ: what is strange? he wins so SY asks if he is using his special ability. I am so good at this so how could this happen. you aren’t in a good condition now so you aren’t wasting your ability on stuff like this right? he says it’s just my ability. he asks to flick her forehead cuz he won so she asks if he is really going to hit her. he says yes and hits her. she says how could you hit this hard. you just wait – I am going to deep kiss you today. pass out properly today. she pins him to kiss, but he laughs and pins her down and kisses her.

Jang reads about the comet in the paper -that whole bit about how it came after 400 years and it’s a day away

SY calls out for MJ from her home while he is in his library and asks him to come over for a second. he teleports aiming for her room but ends up on the street barefoot cuz his slippers were left behind in his library. people recognize him as the one who came out on tv -the one who can teleport. he just stands there

*I bet this was the moment when he felt for the first time what it really feels to be helpless – when you lose control of your abilities and can’t control what happens next.

SY is at his house and asks where did you go? she looks up at his library door partially open.

MJ sits and waits until Jang shows up with a coat and sneakers and put it on him. he puts his scarf around MJ and berates himself for not bringing socks. aren’t your feet cold? MJ smiles and nods. Jang worries what to do cuz you cant control your ability. how alarmed you must have been. MJ smiles and says on that day too I think it was this park. Jang says on the day I almost died you rescued me you brought me here after buying me a bowl of soup.

flashback to that park when young Jang says to MJ  – thank you for pulling me back. I don’t know what ability you have but you saved me and my mother. MJ hands him an envelope of money and says pay me back. seeing how you thought of dying first cuz you didnt have money – I don’t think you are that smart so I don’t know how you intend to pass the bar, but after you are admitted (become a lawyer) pay me back. Jang: how? what are you trusting? MJ: I am not trusting you and giving you this – i dont trust anyone. Jang: then why? MJ: I dont want to start a fate/ a connection but let’s just say it’s our fate. Jang cries and thanks him over and over holding his hand.

Jang asks can i touch your hand once? he holds MJ’s hand.  he cries and says I don’t want to send you off from my side – it feels like a parent losing a child before his time.  MJ says lawyer Jang – a very long time ago someone said “saying farewell is something you do in advance. if the end really does comes, you cant say stuff like farewell.” I was grateful. I wont forget you. Jang bawls so MJ holds onto his shoulder and cries too.

*I sobbed as much as Jang here. I keep forgetting there are two people who would do anything to keep MJ in their lives. The love he feels for Jang might be different than what he feels for SY, but aside from her, Jang was the only person in his life who staved off loneliness all those years so I bet he was grateful to Jang for his enduring friendship.

MJ goes to his home and SY is there and hugs him. she asks are you ok? come over here. she lit candles everywhere and put flowers.

MJ sits down and she kneels in front of him. she says we are getting married today. MJ: what? SY: cant get divorced cuz you are leaving tm. won’t get divorced and if you go there and cheat on me (be unfaithful)-you will really die. you know a woman’s jilted heart right? know that a woman’s jilted heart is more great than your females over there.  when you proposed to me you gave me a ring as a present but I had to pay rent and utilities so I don’t have much money so this is a proposal present. she gives him a USB of the video.  If you watch it now I will be embarrassed so watch it later when you are alone. watch it whenever you miss me. look at me and watch it and laugh. MJ nods yes. SY: since you don’t seem to plan to say you love me, I will do all of your part too. I love you DMJ. if you live way longer than me you will forget in the end, but a perfect woman like me loved you a lot and liked you so dont forget that and think of it as adorable. he holds her hand and says the greatest superpower I have is to stop time. SY: you know how to do that? MJ: of course. i am a way more impressive man than you think. I stopped time many times – inside that time you didn’t know about –  I said this  “I love you Chun SY.” when time resumes (flows) and I say this I thought everything would flow and disappear so I said it in that stopped time “I love you chun SY. I love you.”

epilogue

SY made Saemi record it and gave her the camera. saemi asks why should I hold this. SY: let me get married. SY dances for the camera for MJ as Saemi takes pics and records.

MJ watches it alone and cries and laughs. she held up flowers. SY: DMJ will you marry me? MJ laughs through tears, but then there are only tears.

Don’t we all do this at some point in our lives – stand amidst the chaos and try to make some sense of it all- get some kind of bearing – hold onto some semblance of normalcy? DMJ couldn’t be more lost than this right now. Losing his control over his powers is the least of his problems cuz staying or going – it’s out of his control. There have been a lot of firsts for him recently, but the one that terrified him the most I bet was when he was nose bleeding. It was a clear indication of his body breaking down and he is all too aware of what is to come and what that next process will be – parts of him just evaporating without a trace. We all want to leave our mark on this world when we go so I wish MJ would keep one thing on his mind at all times in these last days. He mattered a lot to a great deal of people. For the past 400 years – the few human beings he interacted with, he left an indelible impression on them. His existence mattered all this time – he may never know the full extent, but he left his imprint on their lives. Good or bad, the person he affected the most was SY. He gave her joy, but his departure will also give her great anguish. Like she said there will be times when she wishes she had never met him, but even despite those fleeting thoughts, she will be anchored by something more resonant – the fact that loving him was the greatest gift and privilege of her life and nothing – not even sadness can efface that.
