Gu Family Book at Joonni’s

It’s one thing to lay down your life to save a boy you consider your son, but a whole different story if you know the truth that the boy is half gumiho. I can’t help but wonder if the dad would have given up his life so graciously to save KC if he knew who KC really was. To him – all this time KC was the boy who brought him luck and fortune and grew to love him as his own son, but I feel like a part of him would have hesitated to take the sword for KC if the dad had known KC’s true heritage. That’s why I am really grateful that the dad didn’t know anything when he made his ultimate sacrifice. As a father of two children of his own, he owed it to them to be their father first and foremost, but he endangered his life to save another man’s son. If he had known the truth about KC, I don’t think he would have done the same thing. Even KC’s own mother needed time to come to terms with who KC might grow up to be and she chose not to live out her life with him. By being in the dark as he made his sacrifice, this one monumental act of love might end up being that beacon that will light up the moments of darkness KC will have to face in the near future as he learns about who he is and come to terms with it. Whatever happens now – no matter how many friends and loved ones end up turning their backs on him, KC will at least have this moment to hold onto for comfort– proof that at least one man genuinely loved him enough to die for him.

Is it really wrong to say I want to see how far this unrequited love story goes? I want Gon to confront YW with his feelings and not always remain silent cuz his love deserves to be known just as much as the next guy’s.

Ever since the two leads of Gu Family were announced last year, I have been so eager to recap this and posted it on my side widget for upcoming drama right away. I’ve always liked Suzy since Dream High and then Big and been a fan of LSG since 1n2d, MGIAG, and K2H. I just knew that the two of them together would make this Spring drama just perfect. Nothing deterred me – not even the fact that it’s a sageuk and had scary stuff about gumihos. Anyone who has read my Arang recaps knows how chicken I can get recapping something scary late at night. Now they don’t have to go through that twice since Joonni isn’t even fazed by the gumiho subplot. I always knew other blogs would be recapping Gu Family, but as most of you know not that many do live recaps. When I worked on Faith with Joonni over at her blog, she was living in the states and had to live stream so that is why I did the live recap version first. Now that she has moved to Seoul, she no longer needs to stream and can recap live so there is no need for both of us to cover the same drama. Since most of my readers know that sageuk dramas are not exactly my forte, I don’t think it will come as much of a shock that I won’t be recapping this drama anymore since I will be parked over at Joonni’s along with everyone else. She is fluent and can read and write Korean as well so I know she can do these live recaps better than anyone. As soon as Joonni decided to pick up Gu Family for her next drama recap, I knew that our enjoyment of this drama had been escalated to “daebak” status. I hope that everyone who has been looking forward to this drama will join me and gather at Joonni’s every Monday and Tuesdays for the next 24 episodes.

I admit YAI is droolworthy hot in this drama, but sadly the story is not gripping enough to make me want to recap. However, eye candy is still eye candy so screenshots will have to do and suffice.

I’m gonna try to be there front and center each week for moral support as she recaps. It was so weird this week cuz I’m not used to just watching a drama live these days without typing the whole time. Out of habit I had my word doc open and ready to recap, only to realize I can actually get up and walk around during Gu Family while it’s airing. This is gonna take some time to get used to this cuz I’ve developed that habit over two and a half years. 🙂

Oh so this is what happened, thank you Softy for telling us. Joonni recap is also really great and she was really fast today! Even screen caps were up :O, but I have to say I’ll miss your intro and final thoughts about each episodes (I love reading them) hope to see your thoughts over Joonni’s comments ^^~~ Btw guys, some BST videos of Today’s episode. I didn’t post them over Joonni’s because I’m not sure if it is okay to do so.. 🙂

Since Joonni is busy I will try to translate these bts. If you post them here from now on I will keep translating them – at least the fun ones. Maybe I should change the name of this post later to “GFB bts.”
That one with the actor playing WR is so cute. He asked the rabbit wrangler very politely to make the rabbit’s ears stand up more so it would be easier to jump down and grab it by the ears. He asked so nicely it was adorable.I was like laughing cuz it was so cute. 🙂

here is the full translation of that scene:
the director told him to catch the rabbit as he jumps so the actor playing WR listens to the instructions but doesn’t seem confident. he explains cuz he loves SW, he wants to become human and in order to become human, there are rules he has to follow/protect. this scene is where the monk explains that to him. director yells start but WR says wait a minute – can you raise its ears? some guy goes over and make the rabbit’s ears stand up so WR thanks the guy. he explains how the director rode on wires to film the scene where WR caught the rabbit. it was my first time to see them film this way –I think it will really be cool (impressive) and dynamic. he asks the audience to look forward to it a lot cuz he thinks this drama will be more than able to reward the expectation.

the other BTS clips didnt have anything particularly amusing in it.

Omg, the rabbit and he together = Cuteness Overload !!!

He didn’t want to hurt the rabbit 😉

Thanks so much Softy for translating it ^^~~

He is in a new Gilette razor CF in Korea these days so he is on during every commercial break – I keep smiling thinking about the big impression he made on the GFB audience last week. He looks amazing in that CF, but I can’t help but think his appeal for the most part came from his character portrayal of the hero who risked his own immortality to rescue the woman he loves and the extent he went to prove his devotion – to her and to the rest of the world.

Softy do you have to remind me AGAIN that he is in the razor commercial?! please please please please catch it if you see it tomorrow *crying from across the sea* (i know you don’t know me, but i’m pretty sure that other hoards of girls are pleading with you too)

i also think that it has more to do with the whole WR fantasy and the idea of self sacrifice, although i really didn’t expect him to look quite as good in sageuk as he did (cf his other past dramas). plus his really deep voice in the official MV was what really caught my attention before any else. (then it was his eyes).

in the BTS – judging from the fact that the rabbit didn’t even move when he jumped down it makes me wonder if the poor rabbit was alive or dead when they were filming the scene.

I watch his razor CF on tv so I dont know how to screencap from a tv. Really wish i could help you out, but short of watching a lot of downloaded cable dramas and hoping they included his CF during their short commercial breaks so I can pause it and screencap, there is nothing I can do. I really want to show you guys the CF just to prove it exists and how great he looks in it.

I think that rabbit was alive cuz it seemed to be eating while waiting around for CJH to grab him. That’s the one thing about Koreans I don’t like – they always hold a rabbit up by the ears. When I was a kid and I got a bunny for Easter, after my rabbit got older and bigger, my uncle would do that all the time to annoy me – pick up my rabbit by its ears. He would explain it doesn’t hurt the rabbit at all, but I was indignant and asked him “how in the world would you know? Has a rabbit ever told you carrying it like that was super comfortable? You can carry around your own rabbit like that if you get one, but for now she is mine and I rather she didn’t have sore ears so either put her down or carry her the right way – cradled in your arms.” My uncle just rolled his eyes at me. Needless to say, I didn’t let my uncle anywhere near my rabbit again.

Hi Softy, totally off topic, just curious to know whether you have watched JOJ? Any good? YAI back in sageuk, oh, reminds me so much of SKKS!

    • Softy says:

As a matter of fact when I found out Gu family was one point behind YAI’s drama in ratings for E1, I broke my promise to myself and watched the first half. I swore I wouldn’t watch this cuz I was still sore at YAI for making me suffer thru fashion king, but like you said, he is wearing Joseon hanboks again so resistance didn’t last long. Plus my fav actor from I live in cheongdamdong is in this drama playing YAI’s best friend.
I only made it halfway thru cuz omg the story is slooooooowwww. I was fighting sleep thru it. Joonni said Gu family is not a true sageuk drama cuz it’s easy to understand and she is right – if I can understand everything then it’s not the real deal. This YAI one is real sageuk cuz the language is super hard. I never made it to the part where YAI and KTH meet – dont know if that even came out. The thought of KTH and YAI as an onscreen couple does nothing for me – I don’t buy their chemistry. Maybe cuz KTH is not strong enough as an actress to pull that off. Some really great actresses can create chemistry with a rock if they had to, but she isn’t one of those proficient actors. I don’t blame YAI for that lack of chemistry cuz I think he could pull it off, but I dont want to watch him straining himself to make that happen – he might hurt himself in the process with all that exertion. He is going to have to work twice as hard to compensate for what she lacks as an actress. I admit comedy is more her thing, but this drama doesn’t have much of that. I didn’t laugh even once or smile for that matter. There are just too many story lines all up in the air so the first half felt disjointed and all over the place. It might be cuz my heart isn’t in this drama, but I didn’t connect with any characters.

Thanks Softy for replying. I am still waiting for 1st ep of JOJ to be subbed and no intention of watching raw version. Saw the official MV and loved the colour, costume and YAI. Like you said, I am not buying the chemistry between the OTP, but they look good together, the young man with older lady! Anyway, I am going to watch the first 2 eps before deciding whether to continue, but for now I am all in for the pretty, the costumes are absolutely gorgeous. I was hoping you would like JOJ, watching any drama with you is like going on a rewarding journey. Thanks 😘

Sorry you have to go on this particular journey without me. 🙂

Based on what I remember from watching the first half last night, the prince (YAI) went to meet some old blind man and brought him back to court by saying some moving stuff about the man’s children. Their carriage was attacked and the prince fought off the intruders well. It was an assassination attempt by some court official. Two guards inside the carriage were killed shielding the old guy.

There was a Les Mis moment when an attendant tried to shoplift an accessory but KTH stops her and asks for the stolen item. The girl denies stealing so KTH takes it from her hand and then gives it back saying if it’s given then it’s not stealing. But just this once – don’t steal again so the girl learns a lesson and says how she wants to grow up and be just like KTH.

          {Evidently later on in years that girl will rise to a higher status and this time she is going to steal the king’s affections so she is moving up in the world. This is what bugs me about Korean history – why did these butt ugly Kings need so many wives and concubines. If they had less family members to deal with and fewer wives nagging at them, I bet they could have ruled better. Only in dramas are all these Kings so good looking, but if you look at the history books, not a single one was half way decent looking.}

KTH’s character is a hit as a fashion designer and is preparing for a fashion show. She knows every client’s tastes and makes the models twirl right in front of certain women to catch their attentions and it works each time cuz they buy her designs. Her mom is a slave and KTH sent her an invitation to her fashion show. But the mom was waylaid by her mean owner who is accusing the mom of seducing her husband cuz the guy is super sweet to her mom. The owner took the invitation from the mom to crash the fashion show. The collection was sold out but that mean owner showed up and told everyone that KTH’s mom is her slave and is trying to seduce her husband and that KTH is also a half slave on her mom’s side so technically the audience is buying designs from a slave. KTH tries to argue, but the owner brought some of her men to destroy everything so all the potential buyers run away.

that’s as far as I got cuz Gu Family E2 was about to start so I never did finish E1. I admit YAI looks stunning again as the prince, but I don’t think I can watch this for various reasons. I bet subbing for this is gonna be hard so whoever is doing it – I wish them all the luck. 🙂

I’m also watching JOJ. Surprisingly, I like it. The first episode had a few cheesy moments *cough fashion show cough* but I really enjoy learning about class system during that era. The costumes are beautiful. YAI looks handsome, but his voice is a little bit monotonous. *Whisper* I actually like this better than Gu Family Book.

I’ve been wanting to vent about that frustrating cable drama End of the world. Man I learned my lesson – don’t read Joonni’s tweet message about a drama and automatically download it without getting a heads up about it from her first. All she wrote was that it scared her and I got curious cuz nothing scares her. I was prepared to see a drama about ghosts or something, but it’s another drama about a virus. I’m not even watching that other cable drama Virus cuz I tend to stay away from dramas about a virus cuz it makes me paranoid every time someone coughs or sneezes in public.End of the world has 3 actors from A wife’s credentials so I found that amusing at first, but after that cute little kid died and more and more innocent people are losing their lives cuz one selfish guy only cares about himself, now I’m too angry to stop watching. I want that guy caught and beaten for what he is doing. Victim my foot – if you willingly go around knowing you are spreading the virus and killing people left and right – you forfeit your right to call yourself a victim. I hate when he pities himself – it’s so ludicrous. I’ve never seen so many frustrating characters in all my life. I lost track of how many I wanted to throttle. that female doctor who is going around with the main doctor – when she didn’t look at the road as she was driving and kept looking at him as he spoke, I yelled at my screen – watch the road you moron. when she almost crashed the car, I wanted to throw something at her. characters like her keep making the dumbest mistakes. Then that girlfriend of the virus carrier, when she kept saying she missed him and didn’t want to say goodbye cuz she waited two yrs for him to return, I was thinking “if your boyfriend is spreading a deadly virus and you know about it – the fact that you two are broken up is a given.” Short of being suicidal, I don’t see any girl staying by their boyfriend’s side in that situation unless you have a death wish. I really hate that I have to keep watching this drama even if I don’t want to just cuz my curiosity is driving me crazy cuz I wanna see what happens to that virus. I don’t know why Joonni said EOTW was scary cuz the only thing that is alarming me right now is how high my blood pressure gets each time I watch an episode. 🙂

Softy, you’re so funny. I have 8 episodes of EotW downloaded but subs are hard to find. If you continue watching this show, please keep leaving your comments here. I would love to read more about this show. Though now that I know what this show is about, I’m kinda scared about starting it 🙂 I’ve also read that since the rating is sort of low, even by cable standard, Jtbc is cutting this drama from 20 eps to 12 eps, and it will be aired once a week, instead of twice a week.

I watched ep. 2 of JOJ last week, and so far so good. Episode 2 was much much better than Episode 1.The childhood portion was surprisingly well done. Ockoala wrote a recap of ep. 2 and shockingly, I agreed with everything she wrote, which is kinda rare since we don’t share the same taste in dramas at all.

I’m also watching Nine. Caught up with the latest episode. This show is like a mystery; my brain is hurting from trying to figure out time-travel clues. But it’s a really good show. If you’re not tired of time-travel yet, you should give this one a try.

If you haven’t started End of the world yet – run – spare yourself- run away and don’t look back. I spoke to Joonni and she only saw two eps worth and here I am suffering through it – I just finished E9 live. I am terrified now. Can’t believe they are reducing the number of eps from 20 to 12 – that is both cruel and unfair at the same time. Cruel cuz they made us get sucked into the story and unfair cuz they will probably resolve the story in a crazy way. no wonder what happened at the end of e9 seemed sort of erratic.

SPOILER ALERT – don’t read if you plan to see this drama from the start.

I am watching this drama without knowing any names so my explanation is going to be confusing, but basically this drama is about more than a virus. It’s about office politics, thirst for glory, a little bit of office romance, spousal conflict, and the most terrifying – how much evil resides in us and how it manifests once you contract the virus. At first the carrier was not susceptible to the M virus in his body and only infected others. But once he was finally caught and brought in to make a vaccine, the virus mutated and now he has it too. They are calling it the M2 virus and this one is super scary. The virus is trying to escape and changing the way the infected person thinks and behaves. The infected person will behave erratically and display homicidal tendencies with no compunction or even a sign of having a conscience. They showed a terrifying demonstration of an infected mouse attacking the other mice. This one infected guy calmly and detachedly helped an infected woman hang herself without a second thought. He has no remorse for his action and doesn’t even get that he did something wrong. Then he went around with a razor blade cutting all the personnel’s hazmat suits without their knowledge so they would get infected. Supposedly this takes place during the new year’s celebration so the personnel went home and gathered with their families and ended up infecting and killing all of them. So the board of the CDC is trying to do damage control and putting the pressure on for another vaccine, but the doctor who made a cure for the M virus needs more time and isn’t sure he can even guarantee he can make one for M2. He and one other staff member pleaded with the board and asked for warnings to be given out that the virus hadn’t been contained, but the woman in charge wouldn’t listen to their warnings. Now that more people are dying, she is suddenly back pedaling and saying how she didn’t know the virus would break out this suddenly. I really hate her cuz she should have removed or fired the other corrupt member cuz he stole data and gave it to Choi- his professor friend so that Choi could walk in and be the hero and claim to have found a vaccine for the new virus, but she is playing office politics. it’s obvious to the nice doctor and his friend that Choi copied the work of the other doctor and is now claiming credit. Plus Choi had a previous work or finding that tarnished his reputation and he had that expunged as part of the deal to share the vaccine he made. He also wanted all the doctors and scientists to come work at his facility which is far from Seoul. But at the end of E9,Choi contracted the virus. He was already evil without it so I can’t imagine how much scarier he will be once the virus changes his behavior. *shuddering at the thought*

I finally saw both eps of JOJ and I’m still not feeling anything positive at all. It’s just not my kind of drama. I haven’t seen Nine yet so maybe I should watch that to help keep my mind off EOTW…I still can’t believe they are going to make us suffer each week and only give us one ep per weekend. The last 3 eps are gonna be insane cuz they will have to cram 11 eps worth of story in 3. One more reason to hate myself for starting this drama in the first place. Arghhhhhhh.

              Softy,

Who is Choi? Is he a doctor working with a team to find the vaccine or is he someone else like a doctor gone rogue? I’m laughing a little at your post cuz I can’t tell if you like this show or hate it, but it seems addicting to you. This contagious disease plot is interesting. How does it play out on screen? Is it a more investigative and suspenseful type?. Gahhhhh, the wait for subs is killing me. I downloaded ep. 9 raw yesterday and it took me 6 hours to finish downloading. So sad not a lot of people are interested in this show. Please keep giving a summary of this show. Thank you.

Nine is a puzzle for me. The problem with Nine is that I don’t know what the main theme is about cuz the main guy is trying to play god by going back in time to change past events in his life. But with changes he’s made, it only makes his present life more complicated. So in effect, he’s just a passenger of his own fate. I do like how the plot moves super fast. We’re already in Ep. 11 and there’s still a lot of stuff to be resolved.

why does this sound like SARS that erupted in Hong Kong with that one very “selfish” professor from my great country who knowing that he was sick with something horrible and untreatable still came down (via plane) and stayed (in a hotel) then admitted himself (to a hospital) when he sorta knew but nobody else did?!

i remember the time like it was yesterday. and watching the headcount go up on the news everyday (I live in HK), people being paranoid everytime someone coughs.. but what really made the news back then was the suicide of HK singer Leslie Cheung (and which everyone showing up to the funeral in masks)

i digress. i guess i won’t be watching this anytime soon.

What happened to that Professor? Did he get arrested? Or he died?

I read that the director and writer of this drama consulted with people in the medical profession quite a bit. They even had the script reviewed by doctors to make sure all technical details were accurate.

Hey SH, I was planning on recapping 1n2d tonight cuz I’m super behind on the recaps for that, but I will give you a better synopsis with names and explanation of EOTW’s recent eps. I should have just done a quick recap as I was watching from E1, but I was so stunned that I ended up getting sucked into a virus drama that I couldn’t even believe I was watching this. It takes a few secs to download in Korea so I downloaded the first 8 eps super fast and started watching over a weekend. I kept it on in the background and didn’t look up that much from my work cuz there is not a single good looking face in this drama. I am not kidding you- this is shallow to admit, but none of these actors are attractive. If they were – how much you wanna bet they would have higher ratings? Plus when the heads of the CDC convene and have their meetings with all that technical and medical jargon, my eyes roll over from how dull and long the scene seems. Normally this is a drama I would have stayed clear of, but now that I’m invested in the outcome, I will watch and summarize the rest of the remaining 3 eps. I used to delete each ep after I watched it, but I still have 5-8 on my computer. Do you want me to summarize 3 and 4 too since there are subs for 1-2? I can do that after I finish my brief recaps for 1n2d this week.

Professor Choi was the one who recently contracted the m2 virus at the end of e9. He pretty much goes berserk in the preview for E10. He is the one who claimed to have the new vaccine for the M2 virus. Like I said though, he is corrupt cuz he is copying the same methods used by the previous doctor who came up with the antidote for M virus.

the guy who stole the other doctor’s work and findings and passed them over to Choi wasn’t punished at all even though his wife turned his butt in cuz the head of the board is playing office politics. There was CCTV footage of him in that lab room to prove his wrongdoings, but he still got away with it cuz it was swept under the rug.

I don’t know where to address this so I decided to just post it here .. hoping you’ll be able to read it. I miss your live recaps..so do you by any chance have a weekend drama on your plate? I’m watching You’re the best Lee Soon Shin and would appreciate your recap and thoughts on it, just like during Ojakkyo days.

That is only if you find that you like it enough to recap it though. I’m praying that you do. ^^

Thank you and sorry for posting this here. 🙂

Sorry for the late reply but I had to catch up on recent eps of this drama to see if I want to recap, but my impression hasn’t changed from e1. I don’t feel the chemistry for the two leads. Plus I still hate that the actress got away with murder. The man saved her life by pushing her out of the way, but she doesn’t even repay that kindness by being a witness to that accident and letting the hit and run driver go free? That’s all I think about each time I see her face. That she shouldn’t get to live so contentedly cuz the man who graciously took in her child and raised as his own to help her out also saved the actress again as a grown woman. all those videos of her from her previous projects playing on her giant wall should be a constant reminder that she had that career thanks to his sacrifice, but she mourned his death for a few hours and got over it. I don’t get how she can live each day not feeling the weight of her conscience.

Sorry but there are just too many things that are “off” about this drama that I can’t seem to get into.

I got home late and missed barefoot friends -working on it now

If any CJH fans care, his razor CF just aired so if you download E10 of the End of the world you can watch it during the halfway mark.

I am watching End of the world now and it’s become a nightmare. These last few episodes are going to get even more frightening. Yoon (that really nice professor/doctor) is trapped with Choi right now while choi is infected. Choi reveals how they wanted Yoon to put his life on the line to find the vaccine for M2 so they infected Yoon’s daughter. Yoon is trying like crazy to get out of that locked room while Choi keeps talking about how humans are all the same cuz now even Yoon, a stickler for rules, dared to hit him. Choi had knocked out the intercom so Yoon couldnt call out so Yoon did everything he could to get out of that hallway and finally made it.
the entire center is in lockdown and Yoon tries to escape. he makes it out and gets in a cab and tells the driver to hurry cuz his kid is sick. so now a rule abider like Yoon has escaped. even though he was wearing a hasmet suit while he was with choi, there is still a chance he is infected so he shouldnt have left. he calls his mother to check where she is with his daughter and she says the hospital so he tells her to leave right now. when Yoon gets to the hospital, Kang (the CDC guy) is already there with the guards and take Yoon in. Choi calls Yoon and says I cant kid around with you. Choi lied about infecting Yoon’s daughter just to make Yoon escape and all so Yoon yells out in frustration.

Yoon is tested and he hasnt been infected, but he is a changed man from this recent event. so he gets yelled at by Kang. Kang says “with your eyes – do you not see it- they get their fingers pricked and get their blood tested -those people who receive a death sentence -that unfairness, anger, fear -do you not see that? for the first time in your life – seeing within yourself – that rock bottom -is that all you can see? nothing can come before people dying – not even yourself. (basically saying Yoon should be more concerned about the infected and those dying and finding a cure than feeling sorry for himself) so Yoon retorts “dont carelessly act like you know” so Kang replies “dont carelessly act like you are having a hard time”

the young cop guy who is so sweet that works at the CDC got infected and tells Lee how he fears changing and becoming evil. he can already feel the darkness within him (cuz this new virus makes people do cold and sinister acts without any remorse)

the psycho scary guy who helped that other patient hang herself and the one who is going around infecting the staff by secretly slicing their hasmet suits with a razor blade tells the original virus carrier what he has been up to. that the young cop is in there cuz this guy sliced his hasmet suit. even the carrier is shocked to hear the guy’s admission.the crazy guy says I heard you failed trying to stab Kang – should I help you.
the evil look on his face when he said that – *shudders*

putting these two guys in the same room to be bunkmates was the worst idea ever. last time the carrier did try to attack kang and infect him cuz the guy felt it was so unfair that he was caught and now he has the new virus and wanted Kang to go through the same thing. that was the evil part of the virus acting out.

Softy, thanks for the summary. So Choi is being quarantined because people know he has caught the virus? And Is Kang the protagonist?

From reading your summaries, this show reminds me of Eyes of Dawn. I don’t know if you have seen that drama yet?

*Spoilers*One of the plot lines from Eyes of Dawn was about testing and creating atomic bombs. The first few episodes was about Japan trying to create those bomb secretly in order to help them win WWII. The testing lab was based in Northern China under the public pretense of the facility being to create clean fresh water for the soldiers fighting in China’s fronts. The military used local Chinese/Koreans and prisoners of war to test new methods, essentially injecting them with different types of bacteria and virus, to see how they reacted to new experiments. The facility was a human lab. Just so horrendous because the people in charge showed no compassion whatsoever toward people being held captive. They were treated as non-humans; subjects to help the empire win the great war. The justification was about sacrificing a few lives to save millions.*End of Spoilers*

Disclaimer: The story is fictional. I don’t know how much of it was historically accurate. But there were so many moral and ethical questions being asked from that show. How far human beings are willing to go to fight for survival? What is the definition of a person? The universal question of good vs. evil. An act of defiance vs. cowardice in one’s darkest moment.

From reading your summary, End of the World seems to explore those types of questions…or not. I’m just guessing 🙂

About tonight’s episode of Nine, when she chose the second choice I was racking my brain trying to remember what the choices were again – she chose for them to go back as family and he has to act like her uncle again. she said they would start at 12 so he asks if she thinks she is Cinderella. while she walks to her car, he texts her and says “since it’s still 5 mins before 12, before you change into my niece, the last thing I want to say to my lover JMY, from the moment everything changed till now, do you know what I regretted the most up to now? all the affection I got from you over 5 years –not once did I give you a proper answer –even what you wrote on your own. that’s why I am so sorry. I love you – forever.” later on that night, she cries as she deletes each part of the texts. she cant bring herself to delete that last line though.

cable dramas need to learn that they aren’t suppose to slow down this much in the last stretch. it’s like you are almost at the finish line and you are winning, but you suddenly decide to take a breather now when it’s so close to the end.

I knew I recognized the younger version of MY’s mom – she was in QIHM. the guy who stabbed SW was also in it too – he played the evil eunuch for the king. of course the nice boss played the bad character who got beheaded. Also the guy who played the king is the one playing the younger version of the older brother too. what is this – a QIHM reunion on Nine? That’s four actors just from QIHM. No wonder it felt like déjà vu as I was watching.

The last time I read recaps of kdrama was during the air time of Ojakgyo brothers. Since video uploads don’t immediately have English subtitles, I read the recaps first before watching the drama. That’s what Im doing now with Gu Family Book.
