The guy who shot this scene should get a reward. It’s one of the prettiest in this drama so far. At first I didn’t get where all her animosity went once she learned who K was, but now I understand. They live in a time where you just don’t hold grudges. You live each day knowing it could be your last. When you finally discover the young master you have been waiting for, you don’t dwell on the past and what he did to you cuz all that matters now is he is Gaksital. He is a hero for the Koreans and someone she has come to love. She thought a stranger was behind that mask so I guess it’s only right that she accepts him so easily into her heart since she has basically loved this guy from childhood. In a way, the tears she shed was from remorse. Just like he mistreated her in the past and regretted, tonight was her turn. Once she shed those tears, she washed away her hatred for him. The more people know about K’s identity as Gaksital, it gets more dangerous for him. But this is the one person I was hoping would know everything about how he became Gaksital cuz you just know that K’s difficult road ahead is a little less scary knowing he has her by his side.

Episode 19: Gaksital’s self destruction throws the public execution site into chaos. A new gaksital appears in front of a barely conscious Shunji and wins against the empire’s police force to successfully free Damsari, and Shunji goes insane

Shunji faces the danger of expulsion because of the failure of the public execution and takes out his anger on Kangto when he appears after three days and punches him

Kangto who returns to the station goes off to find Lala to get more information on Kishokai and tells her to take him on as a member

written before it aired: I wanted to be in denial that they would actually do this while he is still wounded and bleeding, but then this photo made me snap out of it. This is why JW doesn’t need to be in a relationship – as long as he keeps acting he gets to kiss a new girl every few months. KBS is pretty smart leaving us hanging for another week with E18. To think all this will happen in the first few mins of this episode. Am I the only one who feels a little awkward for these two characters? This is not the kind of drama where you get to have that next scene where they are giddy and exchange goofy grins. One good thing that will come out of all this – Kangto wont be frowning anymore when it comes to D. Plus she will stop using that stupid knife to stab him with. Someone worried his hair would obstruct the view of the kiss, but as you can see above, it’s pretty much picture perfect.

Starts from S carrying flowers to D’s hotel room. He sees all the guards on the ground and runs in to find the room empty. He wakes up the officer and asks where D is. officer says a guy in a black suit came suddenly. S asks was he tall with a mustache and the officer says yes.

S runs into the room to see his dad. H and Jun are there too. S asks H: where is D? taro calls out his name. S ignores his dad and points the gun at H and says: I warned you- where is D. Jun aims his sword at S. taro tell him to lower his gun.  S says to his dad. everyone has one thing they want to protect father. I told her not to touch that- I clearly warned that woman. Why cant a Japanese love a Korean. why does Kishokai have to interfere with my feelings too. H says if you want- you can have any Korean girl but  that girl is connected to gaksital. if you protect that girl it looks like you protect gaksital. so how can we just watch that. S says even for the sake of capturing gakistal with my own hands, I cant give up the girl even if I die. you got that? where is D? H says don’t worry cuz she is safe. Gaksital got involved and took her away.

Gaksital’s horse rides over to D. she takes his mask off while crying. she sees K’s face. She looks at the mask in her hand. K opens his eyes and looks at her then closes his eyes again. She keeps crying. he gets off the horse and holds onto her.

she cradles his head on her lap on the ground.  He looks up at her and gives her the knife back. She remembers saying to him –someone like you should die and gakistal should be alive. She cries more. he wipes away her tears and holds her face. Flashback to K asking her – look -look at me clearly – don’t you know who I am? then when K asked her: Look me clearly in the eye –look at me- don’t you know who I am? tell everything you know about gaksital. D: kill me instead. you think I will say with my own mouth?  She holds his hand and looks at his wound. She tears her shirt end and ties his arm wound to stop the bleeding. Flashback to her saying I thought young master was gaksital. gaksital – the one who saved Koreans. get out right now.

K stands up and she sees another leg wound so she is about to rip another part of her shirt to tie it up but he stops her and hugs her. he holds her head and they just stay in that embrace. Then they pull away and look at each other.

he leans over and kisses her. camera tilts for a second.

The spy girl is putting some facial product on so sunhwa asks what money do you have these days to get a perm and buy make up products. Spy girl says mind your own business. Sunhwa asks if the girl is close to S. spy girl says -you still dont know? we are close. S barges in and asks sunwha if she saw D. did she not contact you? sunhwa says I dont know. spy girl starts to say D escaped again. She makes harsh suggestions about how to keep D to stay put-how he should shackle her legs and so on. so S slaps her. S says to sunwha-you know i wont harm D right?  if she contacts you-let me know. S leaves. spy girl says D’s name.

Leader Jo tells the circus people he is breaking up the circus -no confidence to keep doing it. he wants to rest now and go on a trip far away with a friend. the woman asks if anything is going on. S comes in and says D disappeared-where is she. woman asks why try to find her here when she was caught and taken away (by S). S asks the two of them to leave. Jo nods to them so they leave. Jo asks if S is really going to publicly execute DS. S says please tell DS comrades if they contact you that the execution will happen for sure. Jo says this looks like a trap obviously so unless gaksital and the comrades are fools, why would they show up. S: I dont know about DS’s group, but gaksital will show up. even if he knows it’s a trap – even if he knows the truth that he will die if he gets caught, gakistal will show up for sure. he wont want to let down the koreans who hope gaksital will show up and rescue DS.  S asks Jo to look into news about D by today. jo says I have already been sentenced to death by the comrades so I cant help you anymore.  S: who said they can sentence you to death. I will protect you for the rest of your life.

S goes back to his office and calls the lackey in for a meeting to be called. Everyone sits and S says the day after tm is DS’s execution. He looks over and asks where is Sato hiroshi. abe says he didn’t come into work yet. S: he didn’t come yet? S thinks in his head “K didn’t show up when D has disappeared?”

Baek is packing up his shoe cleaning box when D shows up with K. K looks pretty pale. Baek tends to his wounds.

D and K sit outside. D talks about the first time she saw K – when my dad got his death sentencing at the courthouse and you put my dad next to you to take a commemorative photo, I really wanted to kill you. to catch gaksital, you put be up at the square, I was more scared of you than my oppressors. how could that lee kangto- a Japanese officer lee kangto end up wearing the mask. K: when I used you as bait – gaksital – the one I wanted to catch so much- I found out he was my hyung. Kenji killed my mother so hyung was getting revenge and I didn’t know kenji killed my mom and took his side and fought with gaksital and I shot him (gaksital). at first I put this mask on for the sake of avenging my mother (her death) and for what my hyung wasnt able to do – to get payback for what happened to my father.  however after getting even for what happened to my father I dont think I can take this mask off. There is too much for me to do and along the way, there are too many people being oppressed. She takes his hand and gives her support. he looks at her crying with teardrops falling. D: no matter what I wont let you go alone. If I go with you till the end, you will succeed. whether it’s the deepest water or burning pit, I will always go with you. K hugs her in the sunlight.

K’s spy officer gets kicked by S. He says I confirmed he (K) was sleeping -he was even snoring. S steps closer and says he snored?  he already sensed you following him around. S calls the spy officer a dummy and says how could you be the best at your job.  Abe and another officer come over and says there is no sign of K where he is staying and it didnt look like a person was staying there. and not at angel club-he didnt go last night either. S sends them out.

S tells himself it doesn’t matter that D has disappeared and K didnt come to work –after two days pass, you can catch gaksital. just two days

K is sleeping and D asks baek: young master will be ok right. (they both call K young master but I am going to call him K) Baek says K is just exhausted – he will wake up soon. She asks him to take care of K cuz she has to hurry and go back to the hotel. the people last night who tried to kill me saw gaksital rescue me. if I disappear and since K didn’t go to work they will suspect he is gaksital. baek: will you be ok? D says how K is fighting so what is this much danger. when K wakes up tell him I went back to the hotel. she looks over at K and stands. Baek asks her to wait. He says how K might have made plans with DS’s comrades to help DS escape so they need to know that K is laid up so their plans wont fall through. so D says I will go see them

D goes to see them. Woman hugs her and asks what happened – if D escaped. D: no but dont worry about me.  did you meet gaksital. woman: we met him. we are going to join forces at the execution site and rescue our leader. (this is how D learns that her dad is going to be executed). Woman says didnt you know. they are going to publicly execute him at the square.  dont worry – we are going to join forces with gaksital and rescue our leader. But D says what to do-last night gaksital was trying to save me and was wounded. woman: what? D: if he goes to rescue father in that condition, it wont work. The woman says they will adjust their plans then. thank you for telling us. D: will you be ok? guy says dont worry they can do it. Woman tells D about the other day when one of them (Yoon) died trying to break out DS. so for Yoon’s sake, we will succeed. How S shot Yoon. The guy says after they rescue DS, he will kill K -the traitor Yoon wanted to get. but D says you cant. no matter what you cant kill him. Do you know who K is?

S looks at his little blueprint of his plan when he gets a call. It’s H. she asks didn’t you hear I wanted to see you. S: didn’t you hear I couldn’t go cuz I am busy. I will hang up now. H gets mad and mutters : I asked to see you but you arent coming. she asks Jun to get the car ready.

H goes to the station and stops Jun from following her in.

S tells the officers how people know the news of DS’s execution so gakistl and DS’s comrades will show up to rescue DS for sure. H walks over and smiles at them. S tells the officer to put the visitor in his room. H is shown into S’s office and told to wait.

she waits for a long time. S asks what she wants. H is about to slap him but he stops her. S: I asked what you wanted.  she says how her dad will arrive at the hospital at the same time as DS’s execution. She asks you can catch gaksital without any mistake this time right. S: I told you my pride wouldnt forgive any more mistakes. H points out if there is a problem during the public execution that goji opposed then it will be harder to get rid of goji. and putting taro back in position will be delayed as a result.  S says there will be no mistake so don’t worry and go back. She warns from here on if I ask to see you -you stop everything and run over. got it? He says I will try. She asks: you will try? why are you so impudent with me? He asks why he has to bow to her- cuz she is the chairman’s daughter. He says I came into Kishokai for the sake of catching gaksital -not for the greed you guys have.  but she says your dad has a lot of greed. (for power and position) if you behave like this then the future path for your father wont be good.  now you finally shut your mouth. suddenly she is interrupted. there is a call and S takes it. someone says D came back. So S runs out

There are like 3 officers aiming their weapons at D as she sits there. S tells them to go out. D says how she almost died last night. I was caught by that woman Lala. that woman approached me in the cell wearing a nun outfit and pretending to be a nun. He says I heard gaksital saved you. she asks how did you know that. do you know that woman. S:I went to that location last night cuz a report came in. didn’t you run away together with gaksital?  D: no- while gaksital was fighting that guy in the black suit I ran off by myself. S: where were you all this time? D:  I stayed all night at the church- i just came back from praying. I think that Lala woman is staying here at the hotel. not too long ago she caught me at the coffee shop. I dont want to stay here a moment longer. please let me go to sunwha’s home. S: Why does gaksital always show up around you. D: I thought that was strange too. so I thought maybe he is the young master I met as a kid but he never showed me his face and leaves without a word after rescuing me so I was mistaken. He hugs her and says it was good for you to come. I will protect you from here on. I put on the uniform to protect you. I wont let anyone or anything hurt you. she asks to let her go to sunwha’s home. S agrees. let’s go there.

S takes D to sunwhas’s home. they hug. her brother looks at S and runs off scared. S speaks politely and asks sunwha for permission to let D stay here for the time being. sunhwa says yes. S asks D: wont you be uncomfortable? D: it is more comfortable than the hotel. he says don’t think the officers outside the front gate are guarding you and think they are protecting you. D: ok. S asks sunwha to take care of D. sunwha: dont worry teacher. I mean officer. S says to D: I will come often. he turns to leave but D calls out his name and asks if her dad is ok. what you said about how you would stop him from being executed -I can trust that right? S: yes trust me.  He leaves

K wakes up and baek comes in and asks how K is doing. K asks about Boon and baek says she went back to the hotel. K says -what? you should have stopped her. baek: Cuz you cant go to work so if she disappears too, S might suspect you of being gaksital so she went back so how could I stop her. K says how S is not the only one staying at the hotel– the woman who tried to kill Boon is staying there too. what if they run into each other. Baek says : Boon didnt go not knowing that. she knew it was dangerous but did it to protect gaksital so you have to think about her heart. K lists his suspicions about H. how she is connected to S. I was wondering what power S had to push for the execution when goji was against it. it’s for certain that S, that woman, and connected to taro’s group. baek guesses K means that group that taro and choi are members of – the group that betrayed K’s father. K says we have to reveal what they are after

Sunwha and her brother hatch a plan. To get the guards drunk. The kid invites the guards to drink some rice wine and eat pancakes so they do. D sneaks away

K is sitting up drinking medicine. D comes over and asks how he is doing. are you ok? He asks if she is still at the hotel. She says no she is at sunwha’s home. I insisted on staying there to S. there are guards posted but so far S doesn’t suspect me. He says be careful –you saw that S’s dad  and that woman who tried to kill you are all on the same side.  S will be in the same group as that woman too. D: ok. today I went to the comrades and after hearing gaksital was injured, the ajumma told me not to let gaksital show up at the execution site no matter what. K:if I dont go there is no chance of success. D: I want gaksital to save my dad too. but if something goes wrong, what will my father think. I thought about it – while trying to save you, if anything bad happens to gaksital,  my father wont be able to endure it. Cuz gaksital has to stay alive to be the light for the Koreans who live in darkness. That light cant be turned off. you said there were too many people being oppressed and that you had too much to do. dont go-  you cant go to the execution site. He hugs her.

S showed up and guards and sunhwa are in trouble. S: I will ask again – where did D go? She shakes her head and says I really don’t know. S: am I someone who will harm her? D is in danger.  it’s cuz there are people who want to kill D. you are trustworthy so I brought her here. if she goes around alone, what if she gets caught by them again.  what if something happens to her. We have to hurry and find her and bring her back. Where is D now. Sunwha is about to talk when D shows up.

D and S talk alone. He asks where she went. She says to church to pray. He says I told you these officers are not here for the sake of guarding you but for the saking of protecting you. from here on dont go off alone and go with them.  she says she cant pray comfortably when there is someone outside waiting. I will not go around with the officers in the future. If you are going to have me guarded 24 hrs then just put be back in jail. she goes in the room.

S has a meeting and K’s chair is empty again so S asks if he didn’t contact today too. lackey says it looks like he quit. S says tm is DS’s public execution and the biggest problem will be those who came to watch. S goes over how they need to keep the crowd in control.

D hears from sunwha that the circus is breaking up. sunhwa reports about what happened with Jo after S took him away. after that how there are officers around Jo all the time. S shows up and asks sunwha to step away for a while. S tells D that K disappeared. he has been gone and today. Do you know where he is by any chance. D: what are you talking about?how would I know where he is. S says he said he loved you so I thought maybe he contacted you. D: no he never did that. S: he really didnt? D: what are you talking about? Leave if you are going to talk nonsense.  S says sorry. I am really sorry but it couldnt be helped. I tried everything but DS will be executed tm in the square so it would be better if you don’t come out.

Lee and his wife are eating with an older couple. The couple asks lee to put in a good word to the governor cuz everyone knows lee is close to him. They are giving Lee a bribe to speak to the governor to listen to their personal request for an educational grant.

The madam at the club asks if the manager is really leaving the capitol. He says after being dragged to the station once it is too scary to live here. The waiter cries and so does the manager. He says be well. He looks around and says goodbye to the madam. Waiter says don’t go. Lee’s son talks about leaving too. Want to go with me. Madam says someone is being executed. So how could someone who is hungry and someone who is full be one. She gets up and leaves him

Taro and the group meet with H’s father the chairman. Taro welcomes her father. She says how tm is the DS’s execution and with his execution they can end the rebels hope that rose from the anniversary event.  taro says with DS’s execution they can end what the rebels have been up to. S says through DS’s death, I will do my best to cut gaksital’s throat and step on the rebels hope. the chairman makes a toast and they all drink.

Leader jo wears a gaksital outfit and puts his outerwear over it. the circus woman watches him from the doorway.

DS is taken out of his crate and abe has to help him up. S is there watching.

K gets more medical treatments from baek

DS is taken to the public square and kicked and beaten then whipped in front of the Koreans. He is led to a platform and has a noose around his neck.

D is crying and praying to god. You know my heart dont you. you know what situation this is right now don’t you. please save my father. Please protect the comrades and gaksital who are on their way to rescue my father. you are the only one i have.  I will entrust those oppressors lives to you.

K puts on his gaksital outfit. He reaches for his mask and puts it on.

S says we are starting the public execution for DS. He lists all of DS’s crimes and says he will be executed as his sentence. Leader Jo suddenly runs out. he yells out to DS to go with him. Jo gets beaten. So the woman runs out in her white hanbok and gets beaten. Then all the Koreans one by one all reveal their white hanboks. there is chaos. Suddenly the circus woman is shot by S. jo reaches out to her as she falls. Circus people all run over to her. they carry her away. Jo looks back at S. Jo is hit from behind

The Koreans wearing white are lined up and kneeling. DS looks at them and smiles out of gratitude. S orders the hanging to start but suddenly officer bodies drop from the rooftop. The koreans yell gaksital. Gaksital jumps down and cuts DS’s rope. S shoots gaksital in the leg.

Gaksital is surrounded by officers. S shoots him in the chest. Gaksital suddenly reveals the bombs strapped to his chest. He lights up and blows up all the officers near him.

am I the only one worried about what K is going to say for being MIA for so long? I don’t think S and everyone is going to believe that Gaksital just blew himself up like this so K isn’t safe quite yet.

also I just noticed but JW barely came out this episode. I bet this was when he was away filming 1n2d so that’s why he came out so little.
