I think it’s time for some perspective. There are only 3 episodes left and we all know what that means. This is that time of the kdrama viewing experience when the show pulls out all the stops and goes all out. They either go for broke and just go nuts with the script or they rein in their crazy and leave us feeling somewhat satisfied. Wherever the story goes, it can’t be any crazier than what we’ve had so far. This all began with the premise that 3 guys and one prince time traveled from 300 yrs ago to present time. All these lucky coincidences and makjang was to be expected and came with the territory so there is no need to fret about it now. That was part of the price we paid for enjoying all the cute, romantic, and hilarity all these episodes. To be honest, I didn’t even realize there was so much of it till recently. I was too happy enjoying every episode and reveling in their joys too much to worry about their troubles. Every time you watch a drama, we have to get to this point where the fun and cute has to be put aside to deal with the inevitable ending and dealing with the bad guys.  From my experience, I’ve noticed that whatever the ending, not everyone is happy with it. Why? Cuz some of us just love these characters too much and saying goodbye happily or while pulling our hair out is still a goodbye and we just aren’t ready to let go yet. Even though RP seemed like it was headed for a fairy tale ending since we have a crown prince and crown princess in the equation, there is no way we all believed this would end well based on how it all began. Maybe by E20 the reality will be that there is no real happy ending on the screen, but in my mind, there already is cuz that’s what my heart believes.

Written before it aired: After watching the preview, I am officially baffled. I get why G can’t throw T’s butt be in jail right now for attempted murder (not just in the past for trying to kill TY, but for locking up H in that freezer truck and getting some thugs to beat up G), but it’s pretty annoying to watch T get away with so much. Somewhere down the line, T had better face a long jail term cuz that’s the only satisfactory ending for this guy. Death is too good for him cuz I want him to suffer in prison every day wondering how he was bested by a Joseon guy from 300 years ago. I know G thinks the only way to get a fox out of its hole is to light a fire, but I think using ineffectual matches to make a little smoke is not working on T. Since T isn’t even “coughing”,  maybe it’s time for someone to introduce G to some dynamite to get the job done.

OMG – I was joking about the dynamite but…. “kaboom” throughout this episode. little bombs were going off left and right and then one major one – I’m still reeling from that blast. thoughts at the end of the episode to avoid spoilers.

Starts from G pulling up to meet Y. G says thank goodness you got here early. Y says he brought the car like G ordered. G says how he has to switch cars for T not to suspect him and think G is a con man who ran away. G takes off his glasses and hands it to Y for safe keeping. G trades cars. Y says it’s dangerous so I will go along too but G says no I have to go alone. it’s something for me and T to figure out for ourselves. G drives off

S goes to meet Jang. Jang welcomes S and says sorry for calling S here so late. S: it’s ok. Jang: I have something to tell you. it was too frustrating to wait to tell you tm so even though it’s late I called you here. S says it’s ok and asks what she has to say to her. Jang: I found my daughter. S: what? Injoo? Jang: no I don’t think I can find Injoo – to tell the truth I have two daughters. Injoo the one I was looking for and another one – Injoo’s older sister. instead of Injoo, I found her older sister. Sena – Injoo’s older sister is you. Sena, I am your real mother -the one who gave birth to you. Jang and S both cry.

H is banging on the door asking if anyone is out there. there is a person trapped in here. save me. She gets really cold and keeps crying.

G drives to meet T

S calls her by her title so jang says call me mother now. you can do that now. as soon as I gave birth to you, I left you in unni’s care so that’s why you thought she was your real mother. and until now that’s how you lived. I am a bad person. I am sorry. I’m sorry. S: please wait a minute while I pull myself together. just a minute. Jang: ok. S goes out of the room

S calls T and asks where he is now. T: far away. why? She asks -what about H? T: she is somewhere for the time being. what’s wrong with your voice? did something happen? what’s going on – why arent you talking?  She asks what did you do with H. T: I didn’t do anything. until Jang leaves for HK tm, she wont be able to see the world. I did as you wanted.  S says the daughter Jang found wasnt H. Jang gave up looking for H. T: what are you talking about– you said she found her daughter H. S: I was mistaken so for now let H go free. T sees G coming so he says-ok. hang up for now

T meets G. G asks where H is. T says the order is to give me what you brought. G throws the phone at him. He asks where H is – tell me. T says it’s better for G to give up if he has copies of these pics and is thinking of playing with them around again. cuz if he does that, T wont stop at just this (what he did today). G threatens: from here on, I wont give you fear anymore. T: yes that’s what you should do. G: it’s not enough just to give you fear, I am going to make you regret to your bone. T shows the key and says -dont you want to save H? you should watch what you are saying. You con. T drops the key to the ground.  G asks where she is. tell me the location. T tells him to drive a little ways and there is a junkyard – you can meet her there. for now. T kicks the keys over and tells him to pick it up. T wants to watch G bow down in front of him to pick it up. T: you shouldnt draw this out. you dont know what condition H is in. whether you have time to draw this out or not.

As soon as G bends down, thugs show up and beat up G. T: you shouldn’t have played around. Suddenly Y shows up and fights those men off. Y tells G to save H while he takes care of the men. G tells him to be careful and not get hurt. G gets in the car and drives off. Y fights off all the guys alone. T leaves too

S kneels down in front of jang. S cries. Jang goes over and helps her up. S: it would have been better if you didn’t tell me. I feel so embarrassed and sorry. Jang says let’s go to HK and start over. When you lied in front of me, it seemed like that was all my fault so my heart ached. S says I’m sorry-I was wrong. I am really sorry.

G drives up to the truck and unlocks it. he gets inside and holds H. G: it’s ok now. I’m sorry. She keeps crying on his shoulders.

Y and the guys wait outside on the curb for G and H. M says I am worried to death – why they aren’t coming. C: wonder if the prince saved H ok. Y: don’t worry.

G pulls up with H so the guys run over. G asks if they waited outside for them all this time. Y asks her: are you ok? H says yes and thanks them all. G says let’s go in. C holds onto G who is holding onto H. so cute.

Next morning H is sleeping and G is sitting by her side holding her hand and petting her hair. She wakes up. She asks if he has been like this all night. G just smiles. she asks what time it is. He says it’s morning. I’m hungry. Let’s eat omurice. H: ok I will make it right away. She is dizzy so he says she is dizzy cuz she used all her strength last night. G offers to make the omurice and tells her to lie down some more. H: it’s ok, I will do it. but he kisses her – telling her if she doesn’t keep her mouth shut, he will make her. and then he kisses her eye saying if she doesn’t close her eyes, he will make her. she calls him a dummy and lies back down

*what’s cute about that line is when they first met and H nagged and yelled at him all the time, he used to mutter under his breath and threatened to shut her up in more painful ways like beatings and ripping her lips off. ok that explanation sounded pretty harsh, but hey at least this is a major step up from those days.

G gives her the omurice and says let’s eat. the omurice looks like it exploded. She says he made it look amusing. let’s eat. She tastes it and smiles politely. He asks if she feels better. she nods yes. he tells her to rest at home today and not go to Jang’s. but she says no-she is going to show T nothing is wrong with her. and she has to go in to work for jang since it’s the last day. G feels bad she cant report T to the police cuz she is afraid of revealing G’s identity and involvement. he asks if she feels that’s unfair. H: there is punishment that comes down from the heaven. one day those people will get a 1000 punishment. G: if T really knows who your real mother is, he will never tell you. H: I am going to find her myself. I left it alone cuz all this time I didnt know my mom was looking for me, but from here on, I will find her. he asks in what way was she thinking of to do that. H: to put out an ad with the pic I have in case my mom is looking for me too so she might see the ad I put out.

H says a prayer as she puts the pic in the envelope – mom please be sure to see this pic

T meets with S. T: what did you say? S: it’s true what i just told you. T: you are Jang’s daughter? so you are saying H has the same mother so H is your real younger sister? S says don’t even bring up that H is my real sister. It puts me in a bad mood. T:how did this happen? S: my real mother Jang’s life was just a little complicated that’s all. I am jang’s real daughter and H doesnt know anything at all and just needs to live like this.  T smiles and takes her hand. T: are you really jang’s daughter. S: dont bring up the talk about the company shares right now. I’m going to do that little by little.  T: ok. S: I am going to meet my mother later this afternoon.

H goes to jang’s with her dry cleaning, paper, and juice. Jang says she worked hard and tells her to sit. H says jang looks well so something good must have happened. Jang: it must show (as in it must be noticeable). she asks what H is holding. H says I brought a pic to put out an ad to find my mom. jang asks to look at the pic. she is about to look at it but S calls. Jang tells S that she is going to the unni’s home where S lived so S should go there too-  to say bye to the mom who has been raising her before they leave for HK.

S: you are going to my mom’s now? ok see you there. so S rushes out. T: why are you rushing – go slowly.  S: we are going to meet at mom’s. jang cant see H’s father’s pic. then she will know H is her daughter. I’ll be going.

Jang asks H: did you hear what the call was about? it’s S. H: yes.  jang says she couldn’t tell H in advance but last night she told the truth to S -the truth is S is my daughter. H: how? Jang explains how the unni raised S. but S is my real daughter. H: so is she Injoo – the daughter you were looking for? Jang says no I couldn’t find Injoo. from the start I knew S was my daughter. I am going to unni’s home now. H offers to get the car ready. H left the envelope with the photo behind on the table

S’s mom is cooking. S rushes home and takes down the family photos. her mom asks to see her face. S ignores her and asks why the album is out. the mom says to show your mother cuz she will want to see how you grew up all this time.  S puts away the family photo album and offers to take it to HK with her. her mom wonders: how can you say you are leaving so naturally. S lies and says -that’s not it mom. I want our talk about when I was young to stay just between us. cuz that seems like the polite thing to do for the mom who raised me. also just cuz I go to HK, does that not make me your daughter. so these things, let’s just talk about it between us. I will look at them when I miss you mom. her mom nods ok. S keeps looking around for more pics she might have missed

H pulls up with jang. She tells jang how to go in and says go and come back. jang asks her to go in together, but H offers to wait outside. Jang says it’s H’s home too but H says today I didnt come as the daughter and as jang’s secretary. go and come back. it’s better for the 3 of you to talk. jang agrees and goes in

S’s mom made a lot of food. she tells jang how “my S only eats seaweed soup if there is beef in it. it tastes good with mussles but since her mom sells fish for a living, she is rebelling or something. when I put seafood on the table, she wont eat it saying it smells fishy. of all the fish, S only eats this stir fried anchovy and only if it’s fried well she will eat it. She cries and jang thanks her for raising S well. Jang: even though I am taking her away for a while,S is your daughter.  I will send her back to you whenever you miss her. the mom says what am I doing crying on a good day like this. since S met her real mother and is starting afresh, I made all this -even seaweed soup.  it got all cold. I will reheat it and come back. she burns her hand as she tries to pick it up. S asks if she is ok. The mom says I’m ok but cries at the sink. She claims to be crying cuz of the burn. Jang goes over and hugs her

G and H look at the photo on the computer. She sees the pic and says it’s T and TY. G asks don’t you know where this is. H: I dont know. G: There is one other person and not just these two in this pic. He zooms in on her in the background. H: what is this – this is me. G: so you do recognize it. H: then this is NY- the pub where I worked. G says this pic was in the phone that he gave T yesterday. H: then T and TY – the two of them came to the pub where i worked. now I get it.  So on that day, TY left this postcard for me at the counter himself to give to me. G: yes but T is lying that he didnt meet TY in NY.  I am no longer going to mess with T about this pic. G puts his glasses on and says: I am going to totally crush him

G goes to meet T. T says you are ten mins late. G: sorry, you know I don’t have anyone to eat lunch with. why? is it annoying cuz I asked you to meet me every day? T says how G always came to the office everyday so why didnt you come today. G: I drove till late last night. I dont think I fit in at the office – you take care of the company. let’s go in. T says the ambience here doesnt seem like it’s for guys.

They go in and G looks around so he explains to T : the person I was going to introduce you too hasn’t come yet. T: who? G: just wait. G excuses himself to go to the bathroom. H shows up and says to T- you must have slept well after doing something like that yesterday. your face looks good.  T says you should have reported me to the police then. H: I wont report you. T: it’s cuz you cant cuz of that con artist. should I give you one advice? choose carefully who you date. G watches them talk. T: I dont think we have anything else to say to each other so why dont you be on your way. T leans in and says: dont hang around me and get lost right now. G walks over. H: I came cuz I had an appointment here. G asks if T knows who this person is. do you know each other? T: no – not really. H says hello to G and he says hello back. G: let’s sit and talk.

G pulls out her chair. G says to T: I ran into this person near the office yesterday and she looked familiar from somewhere. H: since he looked like someone i saw a lot, I kept staring at him. G: so we talked and found out we met in NY. T looks away in alarm. G asks her: where is it? did you bring it? H: yes. here. She shows her postcard and G says: this person said I drew this. and I think I remember that a little bit. H: at that time you were there together. T: what? H: I think I saw you at the pub where i worked. didnt I? T: You saw incorrectly. G: my hyung didnt meet me in NY so you must have seen wrong. H: ah is that so.T tries to leave saying he has work so he has to go first, but G stops him and says -why are you like that? it’s so uncanny to meet this person so I wanted to tell you about it. H says to G: it was good to meet you but I have some work so I will be going now. G: yes let’s meet again next time. After she is gone, G says I must have liked that girl since I drew her on a postcard. T: that could be. G: then if we met in NY then we might have dated. if only I wasn’t in that accident. I really cant remember that accident- i think I will die (cuz I cant remember)

T goes to TY’s room and opens TY’s laptop and sees the photo of TY and T on the background. T calls G a coward. G shows up and asks what he is doing. T lies and says he was looking for a book and found the laptop. do you use this notebook? G lies and says I dont use it cuz it’s old. G pulls out a book for T  – if you read it when you cant sleep, it helps you sleep. T puts the laptop back

G hears from H that S is jang’s real daughter. H: yes that’s what I said.  He tells her how it bothered him that the princess and bu yong were sisters in joseon but they werent here. S has a separate real mother and you too – then like in Joseon, you never know you might be related (meaning be real sisters). you might be Jang’s daughter too. H doesn’t think that’s possible.

G gives the chairman a leg massage. she says it’s nice – it’s been a long time since he has done this. G: you like it that much? chairman: of course.  She asks if he isnt going to draw anymore. He says how cell phones these days take great pics so why bother drawing. He asks to take couple pics with her. they take pics – some regular, with V signs, or ugly faces. aunt comes over and acts jealous. she says she cant watch this starting from the morning. how can someone without grandchildren live from being sad.  Chairman says then you should have some grandchildren too. Aunt: I don’t even have a child so how can I have a grandchild. chairman asks why she is getting angry – cuz she does that when she is upset. aunt says it’s better not to watch and leaves the room. G: grandmother – you are angry cuz of aunt grandmother arent you?  chairman: I want to eat a cool bowl of noodles. He offers to buy it but she holds his hand and says no –dont go. I just like being here together with you. they hold hands. chairman: I have no other wish – let’s just continue to be together like this. G: yes grandmother

T tells S to bring him TY’s laptop from his room. she asks why. he says the imposter who pretended to be TY collected all the paperwork S showed him about jang. S: he took stuff like that too. T: I will call TY out and meet with him so during that time get that done.

T and G drink together. T says it’s been a long time since he drank with him. G: yes cuz I was lying down for two years. G says how delicious the beer here is

S goes to the chairman’s home. the housekeeper just left. S opens the gate with a key.

G says should we go now but T says we should drink one more. G says sorry but I promised grandma I would buy her noodles. T says just drink one more and then go. T orders two more glasses of beer

S goes inside and goes up the stairs.

G says I am too full so I cant drink anymore. let’s go now. T says let’s drink cocktails then and orders them

S goes inside and looks for the laptop. She finds it and looks at the photo. She says-what is this. it’s TY and T. she looks over and the grandmother is standing there. she asks what S is doing here. S closes the laptop. Chairman asks how she got into an empty room. isnt that TY’s notebook. what were you looking at. open it up so I can see that pic. It’s TY and T right? S says T said to bring it and takes it. I’m sorry chairman. I will be going. chairman yells at her to bring that back. (S dropped her home key) As S runs off the chairman chases her and tells her to stop right there. she grabs for the laptop and S pulls away. Chairman loses her footing and falls down the stairs. blood flows from her head. S: chairman.

S leaves the house. She walks by a car accident -a fender bender. She sends a text to T “something terrible happened – call me.”  T says to G: since you are busy let’s go now

S tells T what happened. S: I didnt do it. I was just avoiding her. she fell by herself. really. you believe me right? nothing big will happen right? T says – come to your senses. whatever happened, it was an accident. I will protect you. he hugs her.

G goes home with noodles and finds the grandmother on the floor with her head bleeding. He holds her and tells her to wake up

At the hospital the aunt is crying saying -what to do -my unni -what to do. Pyo tells her to get a grip. she has to at a time like this. T’s dad agrees. The doctor comes out. T’s dad asks: what happened to my mother. doctors  says I’m sorry we did everything we could but she passed away. The aunt falls back in tears and pyo holds her. G cries. T runs away

T meets with S. S says it’s cuz of me. what to do about the chairman. What do I do now. What do I do.  T tells her to hurry and leave for HK. it wasnt cuz of what happened today. as planned, you were supposed to go to HK with your mother. Just stay there acting like nothing happened and dont think about anything until I call you. You understand what I am saying right. she nods yes.

There is a wake for the chairman. G kneels in front of her photo and says I am sorry grandmother. He remembers her wish to be together with him. The aunt comes over and says I have something to get from home so let’s go together.

They go inside and the aunt starts to cry. G goes to his room and steps on S’s home key. He looks for his laptop and it’s gone. He remembers putting it on the shelf. He suddenly grips the key tightly

S goes to her officetel and looks for her key. she drops her purse to look through it.  She punches in the number and goes in and starts to pack her bag. She screams cuz she cant close her bag. she packed clothes  with the hangers

H is driving jang and S to the airport. jang gives H the envelope back and says -you left the pic. you said you were going to put out an ad to find your mom. H: yes. jang: if that’s a precious family pic then you should take better care of it. H: yes. thank you. jang tells S: even though you became my daughter, continue being H’s older sister. S: of course.

Jang gives H money for her services all this time and she put in some extra to use to find her mother. H thanks her.  Jang asks H to take good care of the unni. she will feel really bad. H: yes dont worry. be careful going back. jang says to S: let’s go in. S tells H to be well. H: go well. H watches them leave

Jang touches her face and hugs H. Jang keeps calling her name.H cries and hugs back

S calls T and says I am leaving now. He tells her not to worry about here and call when you get there. S: thank you. he says he will go to HK after he gets things here in order. She hangs up. As she walks over, she sees Jang hugging H.

S is on the bus and texts Jang: I am sorry mom. the Injoo you were looking for is H. sorry for not telling you all this time. I’m too ashamed to face you so I cant go to HK. Goodbye.

at the wake, T gets a call from S: where are you calling from? Didn’t you go to HK. ok. come here for now. How can I leave here. you come here. ok then go to your officetel and I’ll go there. G overheard that conversation

S is drinking alone. She has her back to the door. She hears the door open and close. S: How can you ask me to go to the wake-what are you thinking of to stand there at the wake. aren’t you even afraid? She turns around and G is standing there wearing TY’s glasses. he walks over to her and T shows up. T: TaeYong – ah. G: you bastard. G punches T

* G said that last line with his Joseon accent so there is no way T still thinks he is TY after this. Plus T got into her place using the key she dropped so there is no hiding the fact that S was there when the chairman had her accident.

When G and the chairman took those cute cell phone pics, I started to get a little nervous. Suddenly the writer was paying too much attention to the chairman’s relationship with her grandson. That’s why I was floored when she had that accident. To say that the chairman’s death was not expected is an understatement cuz even as I was translating the doctor’s words, I was going “what the freak – why are you killing off the grandmother like that? she didn’t even get to reunite with the real TY yet. What is TY going to do when he wakes up? He will be heartbroken the minute he regains consciousness.  As I watched G cry genuine tears, I realized how guilty he must feel now knowing that the chairman died like that as an indirect result of his actions. Sure S is the one to blame for struggling with an old woman on top of the stairs, but she was there in the first place cuz of that laptop and that photo that G allowed to be seen. All this time, I thought G’s plan was to discover who killed the princess and I never counted on there being casualty in the present time as well as the past. What does the chairman’s death mean now? Please tell me her death is not the first of many cuz I don’t think my heart can take any more. There had better be some clear answers tm night or else it will be the longest week of my life till next wed.

About a third of the way through this episode I was thinking, “Wow, an episode without a ton of stuff happening,” but by the end my thoughts were closer to, “I can’t believe all this is happening!! What?? There’s MORE happening??! Wait! Please don’t end; I need to see more!”

I thought for sure that the episode was going to end with H showing Jang the photo, but instead we got a lovely punch to T’s face (I practically cheered). I now have no idea what’s possibly going to happen tomorrow, and my brain is still reeling from all the new developments.

Some events I expected, like H finally reuniting with her mom; but I did not expect the grandma to die. What is that going to mean? What does her will say? How will her death influence the ongoing battle between T and G? I’m a bit worried that G will let his emotions get the better of him and mess up while he confronts T in the apartment, but so far G has always been one step ahead (I love it!). In most dramas the second leads win the majority of the battles, and I’m stuck yelling at the screen while the protagonists act optimistic and naive while getting outplayed at every turn. It’s very satisfying to be proud of the protagonists, and watch the antagonists squirm.

As much as I’m enjoying watching T squirm, I’m having a hard time feeling good about what S is going through. The poor girl is in way over her head, and she knows it. I get the impression that she regrets everything now, and she’s dug a hole so deep that her only option is to dig deeper. I do like that she’s brought herself down almost single-handedly, since it’s somehow more satisfying that way, and I feel like she may realize that she’s done this all to herself, which will hopefully help her to mend her ways. I thought it was interesting how her knowledge of her adoption changed her relationship with her adoptive mom. We only got a glimpse, but it seems like S is far more compassionate to her now. I think she was always resentful that she wasn’t born into better standing, but since that isn’t an issue now, I think she’s more grateful of being raised with such love, and feels guilty about her years of bitterness.

I don’t dislike Jang since she obviously regrets her past and cares for both her daughters (only a mother could forgive S!) but I do feel terrible for Jang’s sister. H was never her daughter to quite the extent that S was, but now she’ll feel like she has lost both of them. Thankfully H isn’t the type to just run off to Hong Kong and abandon her! I also find myself feeling quite bad for TY. When he finally wakes up, he’s going to discover that his grandma died and his cousin betrayed him, not to mention that he was in a coma for years. I do think that H will be there to comfort him though, so that should help.

This wasn’t the most romantic of episodes, but that one little kiss that G gave H was just perfect. I sort of understand why real kisses are so unrealistic in k-dramas, but I never understood why pecks had to be so terrible too. They’re usually frozen lipped without making the slightest sound at all, and they may as well just butt heads since the effect would be about the same. It’s kind of sad that such a little kiss could surprise me so much, but it was definitely gasp-worthy and I’m already antsy to watch it again to make sure I didn’t imagine it.

Another thing that I love about this show is that it deals with viewer-frustration so effectively. I’ve mentioned it before, but an example today was Jang seeing H’s photo. I wanted to tear my hair out in the beginning when she didn’t look at it, but I was much happier with the way the whole scenario actually played out. Instead of Jang just looking at it by coincidence or chance, she ultimately looked at it because G actually thought things through and realized that it would make sense for her to be H’s mom. I was equally appreciative of H being logical and thinking to put the photo in the paper. These characters seem like real people who are actually thinking all the time, instead of when it’s only relevant to the plot. Despite all the time travel and fated events in this drama, I feel like our leads are in control of their own destinies, and have gotten to where they are due to their own intelligent choices. That makes me a very happy viewer.

Since T already tried to kill H once, I’m a bit worried what he’ll do now that he knows she saw him in New York. I almost hope that he tries murdering her again and gets caught in the act, so he can be locked away for good. At least S’s actions have driven her crazy, but so far I’ve seen little remorse from T, and wouldn’t buy it if he tried to redeem himself. Wouldn’t it be nice if S helped bring him down?

So what happens now? Will H inherit everything from Jang, or will it be split with S? What are T and S going to try next? They’ve seemed out of options for quite some time, but they always come up with a new ploy. How is G actually going to bring T down with all his evidence? Are the boys going to start disappearing again? What will cause them to finally go back in time? If H inherits all those shares, what will her role at the company be? Will TY wake up if G leaves? What is the real deal with that Joseon era murder? Is H really not going to end up with G?

There are a million questions (I try not to think about that last one) and not many episodes left, so if anything the pace will probably pick up (is that even possible?). I think we need to brace ourselves as this drama comes to end, since I get the impression that it’s going to be a major emotional rollercoaster. We may need to stock up on tissues too.
